PlayStation Has 2 CEO's Now. With Jim Ryan Gone, What Does This Mean For PS5 & The Future?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- Right before Sony releases their FY2023 results, the company finally appointed a new CEO since Jim Ryan's retirement. And it turns out, we've got TWO CEO's! Hermen Hulst, previously the SVP, Head of PlayStation Studios. He's now going to be the CEO of the Studio Business Group. And then Hideaki Nishino, previously the SVP of Platform Experiences. He'll now be CEO of the Platform business group. Now that we have new PlayStation leadership, it's time to discuss what this will mean for PS5, and the business going forward. Is this exciting news? Hard to say, I was right in the middle of frying an egg. And then this just springs up out of nowhere.

Nice to see Sony learning from the Sith Lords & introducing the Rule of Two
They. Dont. Ever. Learn...
Xperia line was one of there biggest failures
Or The Office. LOL.
@@shadowaussie1012 I'm using an Xperia phone right now. the only top end phone with 4k oled, sd card slot and a headphone jack with hi res audio chip
I wonder if there’ll ever be a time where they’ll issue their own version of a order 66
Hurmen hulst going from managing a game studio to managing playstation is quite a wild career
From managing a game studio, to being head of all the studios, to being a CEO.
Hermen*
Let’s hope this will be PS’s return to its Japanese roots
Game Informer did and interview with Hermen Hulst in 2021 and Hulst says that Japanese games are core to Sony’s identity, despite rumors of the contrary.“I will say that we are in some ways very much a Japanese company still,” says Hulst. “That’s our heritage. That’s still part of who we are. We love our Japanese games.”
What would that look like?
Nope. Herman Hulst hates Japan.
@@jamesray1950 So much bs. Playstation is currently the most anti-Japanese console to exist.
Nope, Herman Hulst hates Japan.
Finally CEO of gaming company who play games and produce them
The Sony you knew is gone
You mean like Phil?
Sony is in WEF. There's no hope.
@@alexk9295 Phil never produced games/a game developer like Hermen Hulst was.
@@TheDeviantPro i thought he was. Apparantly he developed things like Encarta encyclopedia. Anyway, supposedly he is a real gamer.
Nice to see a Japanese CEO,
& Hermen Hulst is awesome!
Let's hope for more great (physical) games, return to some dormant franchises (Resistance, Killzone, inFAMOUS, Socom) and a focus on Home Consoles for a long time.
they are suits not gamers they dont care what we want or whats needed to survive
The focus should still be to expand PlayStation especially to places like PC. The focus can still be on consoles but imo it's smart business and makes sense to keep pushing outwards where it makes sense especially if it allows more games to be made.
@@Demonsouls1993 this guy literally created both horizon and killzone what the hell are you talking about 🤡🤡
If they let go of the greed and make games we want, we will buy those games and be happy
Once Sony stops selling physical copies, it’s going to be tough selling millions of copies of games. Especially now where they force censorship on digital purchases. I was signed up for PSN since PS4. I canceled my subscription for the first time in 2m years after the pointless stellar blade censorship, and I will never sign up again. I’ll stick to my PC now, and occasional physical copies of games I’ll buy. Probably never a western game again. Selling you a a mature game uncensored and then forcing a censorship patch is so anti-consumer. Not to mention this was right after they did the same shit with tomb raider. Then after stellar blade they censored their own booklet on an adult game but kept it uncensored on the Nintendo. So they censor their own mature rated game on PlayStation but keep it uncensored on a child’s console. Then comes the helldivers 2 debacle. Whoever is making these absolutely terrible decisions over there need to be let go.
I’m gonna hold my breath until I see HOW these fellows perform.
Let's hope having a game dev in the captain's seat will mean less emphasis on live service games and more focus on deep single player experiences/
I hope so
Really, lets get back to the story driven gaming
To add on to that, hopefully it also means more focus on Eastern/Japanese games and far less focus on Western garbage.
They already lowered 12 GaaS to 6, thts a hint imo
Yeah that what i love about playstation
bring back PlayStation home
And every old PS1/2/3 game to the PS store
Yes please god please
Ps home with dream integrated into the experience.(so the community can make there own clothes and areas) plus exclusive items you get from ps studios trophy unlocks... It's a pipe dream
Yes it’s not too late to turn the ship around and go home
@@sam2399 i do like the idea but in the age of micro transactions i think it will never happen 🙄 lets hope they make it to begin with i dont think they want ps home at all unfortunately, mystic documentary on home was amazing and it showed a lot of interest among people. Yet sony wouldn’t listen to them which is very unfortunate
ITS TIME TO GO BACK TO THE OLD DAYS OF PLAYSTATION WHEN IT WAS MARKETED WITH KEVIN BUTLER AND PUTTING GAMING ON THE FORFRONT
Yaptastic
that's.... not the old days of playstation.... old days of playstation was crash bandicoot standing in front of nintendo headquarters with a megaphone.... kevin butler is good but not that good
It’s like you think PlayStation isn’t putting out good games. My backlog for this year is already fool. B0z0

I misread the title like 3 times thinking it said, "PlayStation 2 Has CEO's Now." I was very confused.
The return of the ps2 lets go
Let's go Mystic, keep up the great content bud
Eric Lempel, now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Any major UI overhauls back in the day Lempel was the guy.
To quote an infamous movie is how I feel about this. "This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them".
Thanks for the update 🤙🏼
its an interesting choice and natural step, they are already in those roles effectively under the previous leadership with jim ryan, now without him they are instead of svp of the same divisions, they are now CEO of those divisions, which just gives them more control of what they already were in charge of, i wish them the best, and it is good they already have shown they are effective managers just being in the svp positions for so long before this change, it matters for our gaming hardware and software 🙏🏾🙏🏾
CEOs not CEO's. The former is plural, the latter indicates possession, as in, that is the CEO's seat.
That's the kind of error native speakers tend to do (it's instead of its).
It’s LeviOsa, not LeviosAR! 🤓
Thanks for mentioning this, a very common error these days.
When would it be CEOs’?
Hopefully things become better after this.
Clutch upload timing
Damn was checking to see if you posted a new Gaming pickups episode but at least we got another video LFG
Nice late night video before I sleep thank you Mr mystic ❤
Wow, came in really early this time. Hopefully these new introductions will result in more of a restructuring to the PlayStation lineup to the point of bringing it back to becoming more worthwhile like woth the PS3 and 4.
I hope this would also resukt in them fixing a lot of Jim Ryan's mistakes from the last few months as well. Many of us would love for PS Plus to be something like it was back in the PS3 days instead of being something that is necessary to get the most out of the PS4 and especially PS5.
Maybethey can lower the price of PS Plus back to $60
herman hulst most important endeavour is now going to be trying to integrate bungie as a sony studio, and importantly their technology for shooter games, since that is proprietary to bungie, they should absolutely never let bungie go, even if there is turnover as a cost, they also need to take over the bungie board as they have been doing apparently, because this lack of integration cannot continue in scei/scewws
I think it's a good move to put someone in charge that has been there and done that (and been successful), in terms of being in the trenches and understanding what challenges the developers and development teams as a whole have to deal with on a day to day basis.
Hopefully Playstation going back to Japan roots where the games was creative and revolution
And hopefully the games sell well this time to force Sony to keep supporting them.
@@Thespywhoteabaggedme LMAO nice trolling
Yeah I know right
@@Thespywhoteabaggedme Hahahaha! That's funny
@@Electro096 Yup. But I doubt it lol
Its interesting to see a game developer becoming a CEO which could be a good thing. Satoru Iwata before he became CEO of Nintendo had his background in game development
Do you think Nishino handling 3rd party relations has to do with many of the most interesting 3rd party prospects are all eastern studios like Korean, Chinese and Japanese?
Maybe they think he'll do a better job with communicating due to cultural cohesion?
Just speculation ofc.
Yes, he's responsible for third party relations
The best of both worlds: creative and technical visionaries.
Let’s go!
I hope they relist their games on steam again. The fact that they sold Hell Divers 2 initially to so many countries and just took them down is so bad. A live service game needs as many players as possible
Sony has a long way to go still but in glad to see a Japanese guy as CEO.
If i have any wishes for playstation going forward,i would say utilize stagnant IP's. There are so many great games that deserve some love, some genuinely amazing games.
Calm down with the multiple remasters.
More love for peripherals. PSVR2 could be great, even more so with the ps5 pro coming soon.
A new PSP. No,not the fucking portal.
Light gun games...i need them.
Definitely impressed 👏 with the decision for 2 ceos for playstation going forward!!!!
let’s bring physical copies back
Sorry man but as much as I LOVE physical copies, I think most people don't care. For us who love physical copies, I think we'll have our fair share.
Back? They didn't go anywhere. Or is this a US thing?
@@CloudyMemory Back as in the main focus.
Thanks!
Bungie should be given the reigns to RESISTANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I kind of like that there's 2. Hopefully it means less stress for them and more back and fourth ideas compared to their being just 1 CEO.
Seem like some pretty solid choices!
Thanks for Playstation update!
Love this move! Excited to see what the future holds.
I think it's especially exciting with Hideaki Nishino, who has been more console focused over the years. If this means more console exclusives then I'm all for it. Him being in charge of 3rd Party relations is probably going to go a long ways too if they continue to partner with eastern studios like Shift Up and bring great games like Stellar Blade to the PS5. PlayStation Studios and their games will continue to reign supreme!
Hopefully with two separate CEOs we will get either more events or more updates on things.
As long as the left hand, knows what the right hand is doing. Hopefully they will be for the customer. It makes me wonder what happened with the Helldivers PC fiasco and who made that out of touch decision. A bit concerning.
Great news. One can focus on software, one on hardware
I expect there to be a bigger push into PC given Hulst's track record.
I kinda like how Sony executives are long time company employees, not ceo shuffling like most other corporations do
I don't expect much to change but there is a sliver of hope here.
Hulst being responsible for the first-party output from the west while the hardware/platform development is primarily managed from Japan is how it's been for years from my understanding.
But the potentially interesting thing is that in addition to managing the platform experience, Nishino will now also be responsible for third-party publisher and developer relations AND commercial operations which could open the door to a wider portfolio of "second-party" games, potentially from and into the japanese market. They might start to think about Nintendo more, especially with the rumors of a potential Playstation handheld for next gen.
I want a Sly Cooper revival make it happen Sony
Dude, just play new games. You can't be 11 years old for the rest of your life
@gurulaghima6518 why spend money and gamble your savings when sony milk its loyal gamers to microtranctions, ntcs and online when ps3 established free online gaming. Why should I pay premium just to play ps2 and ps3 digital games when I buy second hand ps3 and pay nothing. Sony better wake up and bring in disk baclwards compability even it'll on the pro or an update or even sony backwardsninstallmebt option
@@gurulaghima6518let the man have his wants
@@gurulaghima6518 we should still be able to play the old games if we want to though. Especially since these are PlayStation franchises...
@@musicimpact7120 yeah I agree, I don't know why Sony doesn't have a service to play retro games
I'm on board with Herman Hulst, I think most of us expected he might be the next CEO, what I didn't expect was that they'd split Playstation into platform hardware and software divisions with different CEOs for each. I'm going to have to see how this plays out over the coming years, it's hard to say if this is a good or bad thing.
Hopefully 🙏🏾 PlayStation home comes to psvr2
Remember when Michael Scott and Jim Halpert were both regional managers in The Office? 😂😂
Herm moving up fast. hopefully this turns out well for ps onwers
What a subversive move. Honestly having a former game developer as the head of all their game developers is an absolutely great idea. I know he was already the head of PS Studios but that thought just came to me right now.
It's great, but also makes me wonder who his replacement will be. A numbskull? Then the effect will be contrary unless HH grabs them by the ear all the time.
I want to see game preservation with PS1 to PS3

I think this is a smart move. The Playstation brand is huge now - too much for one person to really be on top of.
No apostrophe in CEOs, my man, unless it's a possessive clause for one of them.
I hope Playstation will have a much better condition now that it's in good hands 🙌
Maybe there still hope for ps4 folders on ps5.
i honestly dont know whats the power of a ceo in playstation and what they are able to change or do
Someone needs to make final decision on strategy etc.
I hope this means something serious in the advancement of gaming for PlayStation. It is 2024 after all.

he has advanced every few years by a large margin, he was definitely headed there
@@jeffreygranda9815 the way Ryan has talked about Herman hulst recently as in the last 2-3 years I think that’s when I realized he was gonna have that job as soon as it was freed up
Honestly thought Eric Lempel would be the new CEO, not that it would be a co-CEO position with Hulst becoming one of them.
He got horizon on him and someone in Sony hq must really like him .
The Dutch are getting to be in charge of everything haha
Sony should stop discrimination againts certain races and countries and make Playstation global like all other storefronts like Ubisoft, Ea, Xbox,Steam.
This should be number 1 priority.
It means that playstation will do better and make pro consumer decisions? We all hope so at least that's for sure
Nice video as I feed my newborn
So many of us have been playing PlayStation for ages, and know that many of our favourite franchises haven’t seen a new game for a decade. Time to revive them gentlemen.
I hope the next step is to get out of the US. We’ll have to see how they respond to the BS moves Sony has made lately.
I want socom killzone resistance mag warhawk
What is the name of Ryan’s podcast?
Yeah, not sure how to feel about it yet TBH
2 CEOs ? Oh boy , it’s going to be a new era for PlayStation ❤
So 3 people are filling Ryan's role, hope this won't cause conflicts in important decisions.
PS fan since PS1, I'm older now and rarely find time to play, but I still like to play online. Please make cheaper PS+ tier solely for just being able to playing online. Possibly free like the good old days.
Why to be on top of the Sony PlayStation news as it breaks Ryan! He's hoping that ruling by committee doesn't become an issue and PlayStation continues to grow and expand. I came back to PlayStation because they always seem to have a plan unlike Xbox where it seems Phil Spenser is getting overruled with every decision he makes. I hated to leave but PlayStation just has the leadership and more importantly the games. I'm a 62 year old gamer who just want to casually have my fun playing the games I love and enjoy so much.
Hopefully they start showing games soon and go back to their old roots.
I believe it to be good when i see change... I wish all the best for them.
Wish they fix the bugs with the controller
Playstation in its the office season 6 era
That was when Jim Ryan was in charge, Hulst is some sort of a Michael.
Good perhaps they will not need travel as much with london studio closed and 2 ceo one for each side of the pond. Maybe sony can keep a ceo longer than 5 years as well is get better communication.
I will only approve if one of them (or both) wears a "gamer" shirt at an event.
bring back playstation community
Oh Lord herman hulst is CEO? He is going to run PlayStation into the ground. That European "sold to the highest bidder" mentally is bad. If he is handed the reigns he definitely will put PC ports day and date with PlayStation releases and the brand will be cannibalized out of existence just like the Xbox is experiencing.
Hideaki please no more ports. Top priority & Japanese honor too please..
Now sop or SHOWCASE begins let's go please.
🎉 A new Playstation generation officially begins, and I'm excited! 😊
So, kind of the same but Hulst got a bigger check.
IMHO one for the PC division and the other for the console one.

Someone said one CEO is for announcing new games and the other CEO is for announcing remasters of the announced new games 😭
CEOs, no apostrophe needed
🤓
True, but there are worse sins than this involving apostrophes. Some people put a " 's " on every plural there is. There's also a difference between "it's" and "its". The first one is an abbreviation, the second one a possessive pronoun.
Anyway: greetings, fellow Grammar Guard.

@@DP12321 Haven't thought of that one but I did complain about his "process" instead of "processor" mistake after him having said it in about 10-15 videos, until he responded and said it's two different things (both are correct depending on how and when you use it) but that he just says process in all cases which makes it sound strange.
