To me, it is almost comical the way the front gun is mounted on these Vanguards. Almost like it is not supposed to be there and somebody just decided to slap one on there. I love the ship, don't get me wrong. But something about the way those guns are Just grinds my gears
You have to fly it with a different mindset. I moved from the Sentinel to the Harbinger because I find myself flying my Vanguard solo most of the time, and never used the EMP. I miss the Sent's snappyness, but the Harb hits like a Mack truck. Plan your attack, and NEVER just rush in on targets. I like to let them come to me, either flying low, or using obstacles in asteroid fields. Plus, I don't like going full bore at them, as they're coming full bore at me, let them hang themselves.
@@jeffroLife There is significant difference. I started with Harbinger, now I daily the Sentinel. I still use the Harbinger for bounties, but anything else I use Sentinel.
I prefer my current Sentinel Loadout: I run the same guns but I use 32 x S1 Taskforce Missiles along with the EMP I'm not sure why, but 4xS1 Taskforce missiles will consistently strip the guns and wings off a Hurricane and significantly dmg a warden and valk. I've even gotten 1 hit kills on a Valkyrie with a volley , I think it knocked out a component. I think its because of the increased explosion radius and penetration. 4 taskforce were more effective than rattlers and I get 8 shots with my loadout. They lock on in just over a second, have a lock range 750m -10km AND being S1, they're incredibly agile so they hit 90% of the time, even against small fighters even if they have to double back after the target. The EMP is amazing. The trick is to use ur guns in the initial pass to take down even just one facing of the shields to expose the hull then fire the EMP as they pass by. It immediately shuts down the shield generator of any ship the size of a Valkyrie or smaller and the shield stays down for a couple minutes. More than enough time enough to finish them off. Sure the Harb has 3 S5 but between the EMP and 32 S1 missiles I can stay out longer w/o needing to reload. And the Sentinel is more agile. Try the Taskforce loadout yourself to see.
Just for the view, when diving in on the planet at max speed, I love it when I decouple, and as soon as I start to see the re-entry burn, I flip around and watch the plasma go around me backwards, then pour on the brakes when through it heh.
As someone who has been using the Harbinger quite a bit in the new patch, dont use the torps on the fighters, use it on the biggest ship due to the fact that it shuts down the ship it hits (dont known of its a bug or not) & the fact that they dont really have the movement to hit up to & includeing heavy fighters
You can target individual components, I do that on reclaimers, aiming for the turrets, I think you can even target the big one on the top, and it will more often than not kill the gunner. But since reclaimers are so sluggish I usually blast escorts with torps, mainly Hurricanes that haven't started moving yet, because those and sometimes Valkyries are the real danger.
If you see the one with "Low Threat" and its close to you, go there and complete the job. Complete multiple Lows and you will get Medium, then High, and Critical. All in all, the goal is to get 5* performance rating on Combat beacon to gain access to High and Critical beacon, and trust me it only took one hour for me to grind it. It's not like grinding XRTs, it's way way way faster. One hour for me and fyi I am a mediocre pilot, not an ace combatant that excels in PvP/PvE
so the hammerhead when heading into you can get 12 size 4 guns to bear at the same time..... not fun this is why your shields got stripped so fast. Getting position on them is important.
@@OneNutSupreme The thing about the Warden is it has no advantages over the Sentinel. The Sentinel can pull more Gs, can use all the same gear, and has the bonus of the EMP and hull bonuses. The Harbinger pulls the lowest Gs of the Vanguards and you lose the hull bonuses and EMP, but in exchange you get the torps and the much higher hull HP. Oh and OneNut.... Rampart better than FR-76 -- same base shield pool/recharge stats but better distortion resistance and recovery. The FR-76 used to have massively better component HP but all that got flattened in 3.18 Same with power plant -- after all the stat flattening, the only reason to upgrade power plant over stock is to decrease powerup time, which means Eclipse (the power plant, not the ship) better than JS-400 -- should only use JS-400 if the loadout actually needs the extra power, which is impossible to do on a Vanguard -- even if you only use one power plant. With Eclipse powerplant (again the power plant, not the ship) you can go from poweroff to all systems full power in a fraction of a second, which is super useful when you are powering off/on for partial-quantum-jump reasons or for stealth reasons.
Ya the harbinger is my favorite for bounties and just in general (excluding the sabre). I run a similar build but with the AD5B as my main. Something satisfying about blowing up ships with a gatling. With Reclaimers I use one torpedo on one of the escorts, mainly the hurricanes because they are scary on high tick rates. Then I just use guns on the reclaimer. If you stay behind it, the reclaimer cant touch you as you just slowly destroy it. Harbinger is just so fun, and if you get someone in that turret, game over.
I really need to give the vanguard series some more love, I bought a couple with auec, during 3.17, but when I had it I wasn't as good as a pilot as I am now, and I hated it, I even tried the loadout I think you used with 2 distortion cannons and the rest laser cannons, I just didn't like how it turns, then I got a scorpius, and that was my main fighter until I got the Antares, which I like to fly solo more because it's faster, and I also use my stepson's account with my old laptop and a pedal that is mapped to right click to use the emp.. Which makes it pretty damm awesome especially when you disable a smaller ship on the first pass then blast it as you turn
Sentinel will be losing EMP apparently. EMP in many ships including the Sentinel are "place holders" for future gameplay - in this case, EWAR. Going to really mess with some pilot's jam when that happens.
@vioblightgaming Why do you say that? I currently have a warden and have been holding off on upgrading until i see what the survival pod means for the ship.
