** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:
    11:27 - boof
    austinwhiskyvault.com/whisky-d...
    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

Thank you both Daniel and Rex, both my wife and I love the humour and camaraderie of your video's and the tribe.
I'll be honest, I never drank - except for a small sip of Rum as a toast to my Father during Christmas. I'd always keep various types of spirits in the house for friends and family, but never would partake. But you MB's ... after watching your video's for the past 6 months or more I've started very gingerly trying different whiskeys. I'd built up maybe a dozen or more over the years, prior to watching you (including a unopened Port Ellen 3rd release which I had no idea was rare) and have been trying a very small amount each time - a splash really and no more than a finger in a Glen Cairn. I went to a whiskey show recently and was overwhelmed by the tastings.
How are you guys able to taste several whiskies and still distinguish flavours? I'm a cigar guy - and fortunately I'm in there for the long haul and expect an hour - 2 (so 3) - so I can work out the flavours. But I went to that show with about 170 different whiskies to try and while I only tried about 10, my palate was destroyed after the mistake of a Port Charlotte (I'd wondered about those peated whiskies - I don't think I'm ready for that yet - or maybe need to have only that).
Anyway - thanks and keep up the great video's we all appreciate them and appreciate the amount of work it must take.

Give Rex my best. I've gone days at a time without sleep because of a creative project I was working on, so I feel for him. I can just picture him at his computer, working non-stop as hard as he can, trying to put out his best even under the pressure that the video would be late, and I can imagine the divine relief he must have felt when he finally published it to UA-cam.
Your work is appreciated Rex! May you have a magnificent rest. Cheers!

The biggest problem with that there interwebs is that viewers can sometimes forget that you are real people. It’s easy to assume these videos are not difficult to create and that’s without all the other stuff that goes on in life. Here’s to you and Rex, and also to all the background people!

Thanks for what you do, guys. This community is something I didn't think existed in the world of whisky. It can be very easy for us whisky noobs to be put off by snobs & those who know a little but say a lot... but you've fostered a really cool group of people around the world, and promote a positive attitude. It's pretty darn special!
I came for the whisky, I stayed for the shenanigans. And long may both continue!

Great video Daniel. I'm fairly new to the whiskey world and have really been enjoying different types of bourbon especially. I've been working through a lot of your older videos and noticed you have a bottle of "Defiant" American single malt on the shelf in the vault in some of your older videos. I live near the distillery and think a video on it would be cool as it might be better than the other American Single Malt you and Rex did.
