  • Range Rover P440e Hybrid vs Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid,
Here we have two large luxury hybrid SUV's, in one corner we have the Range Rover P440e hybrid and in the other we have the Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid. Both cars aim to offer similar experiences for the driver and the occupants, both offer incredible luxury and refinement whilst also offering all the benefits of a hybrid vehicle.
They do however go about achieving their goals in different ways, the Range Rover uses a 3 litre 6 cylinder petrol and bank of batteries whilst the Volvo uses a 2 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine and a bank of batteries.
Both are able to drive purely on electric power alone and both have over 400 hp, so both cars are the very best of the best in their respective brands, both have large cabins loaded full of technology and gadgets. But the question is which is best?
We put both cars through three challenges, each testing an important area in the segment, join us to find out which comes out on top.
Please remember this video is just for a bit of fun so the challenges are designed more for entertainment rather than a factual comparison between both car.

Fun video. We have the XC90 T8 and my colleague has the hybrid Rangie. His is definitely flashier but as an everyday car we both prefer the XC90!!

I see more Volvos in Beverly Hills than Range Rovers. It’s the understated premium people mover.

I went to order the Range rover P440E and was told minimum 2 years waiting list . So I ordered the XC90 T8 due to arrive next week after waiting 9 months. I currently drive an Audi Q7 but the plug in hybrid version barely does 20miles in the real world , No good for me . The BMW X5e the boot is far too small. BMW X7 no plug in hybrid. Boot space is vital for me as my wife is disabled and I have to put in a buggy and wheel chair before luggage. All other range rover cars have boots too small. So I hope the Volvo will be good.

Do you have the T8 now? How do you like it?

    • @bjs7442

@@Wellspicedchaffinch I like it a lot. I have now done 4000 miles . It doesnt handle as well as my Audi or ride as well but that is a very high bar. You do feel the bumps more. However it is a quick car , very fast away from the lights and very well put together. Great motorway cruiser. My wife loves its looks in white. The boot is very good and I am happy with my purchase. No issues so far. Economy not quite as good as I expected because of the increase in cost of electricity as in petrol only I am getting around 30mpg but I always have a full boot. Negatives are I dont like touch screen controls as it works ok but you have to take your eyes off the road and some things like fan control and heated seats require multiple precise touches. Yes you can use voice control but you have to know how to say it and being from the West Midlands it sometimes misunderstands. I cant find any reference to read up on this. No physical handbook. The other negative is the the doors do not cover the sills when closed as my Audi did . This means ,as I live in the countryside my wife gets her legs dirty when she slides out of the car. Also its not a 4x4 in the sense of a Land Rover but I rarely need true 4x4 performance. It has air suspension but I miss being able to set it at different heights. Its an automatic system only depending on your driving mode. I miss the control the Audi gave me. I am very pleased though with the safety aspects of it and proximity sensors etc. I would now miss not having them. I dont use lane assist though.
Just my review for what its worth.

The Volvo is more reliable - everything works most of the time while the Range Rovers I've owned have never had everything working all at once at the same time. Always waiting to go in for something to be fixed. You can't argue with their marketing though

What's the point comparing these two vehicles? No one looking to buy a luxury vehicle like a Range Rover is going to be cross shopping it with a brand like Volvo?

We’ve had both - and the Volvo T8 is in its own league. That’s coming from a previous avid hater of Volvo. However the reality is that, the RRV is miles behind the XC90. RR are so cheaply made and badly built, the Volvo on the other hand is at the opposite end of the spectrum. We were so shocked I can’t tell you how much.
