    Slight correction: The updated model does not employ a supercharger anymore, instead the stronger rear electric motor makes up for that power loss

    • @victornba33
      @victornba33 Рік тому +5

      Actually the car now is more powerful, since the electric engine is way stronger. 407 to 455hp, something like that. Used to own a 2017 T8, electric power only was too weak. This updated version fixes that, wouldn’t mind owning another one again.

      My 250 bhp T5(2017) is far more reliable than my fd's 2020 T6 300bhp, the supercharger and turbocharger break down alternately. Both are Swede made. The updated B5 does sell well with the mild hybrid system, with the inscription package. Forget the B6 dual charger version, with 14 bhp more.

    Definitely prefer the XC designs over the EX designs, feels much more "car". The overemphasis on aerodynamics isn't helping car design in my opinion, so hope they will keep them in the line up for a little while longer.

    Regarding the seat belts and cover in the trunk: there are hooks next on the site (at the ventilation) where you can attache the "buckle tongue" of the seat belts on, so that you can open and close the cover without problems when the back seats are not in use. The XC90 was a lovely car to own. There were however a few issues with quality as part for around €6000 were replaced during 3 years (while under warranty). Also the drive train is not very refined and this is very clear when the car is cold (sub zero Celsius) as it becomes noisy due to gearbox lockup. Still - all in all a lovely car!

    All shortfalls aside (although the non centered steering wheel would need to get fixed), Volvo is still one of the safest cars on the road. After having 3 Volvo's totaled by other drivers ( 2 running a stop light , one a high speed and one a front end collision crossing a double yellow) and walking away from all but one, the XC90 will be my next Volvo.

    It's been a good car since its 2014 debut, but subsequent incremental updates (incl. facelifts) were not as good...
    For example the powertrain transition from T5/6 to B5/6 (mild hybrid) was good, but transition of infotainment system from proprietary to Ggl-dependent is not quite so. Also the scrapping of the in-center console ODD... not good either.
    BTW keeping the XC90 in the lineup will hope prevent customers from associating the brand with Geely......

  • @vedasplantshop
    @vedasplantshop Рік тому +1

    You mentioned the steering wheel, and it's being not perfectly centered, and I immediately thought of the one single issue I have with my 2018 XC90 T6- when driving in the pilot assist mode, it pulls way, way, WAY too far left in my opinion. It tends to ride the middle line (we drive on the right side of the road in the US), and I notice that I prefer to ride the right line, or stay in the center of lane, ideally. It could potentially need an alignment, as it seems to pull a bit when not using pilot assist, but at any rate, steering things drive me crazy too, so I understand your issue with it!

    LOVE the XC90 - it looks just as good now as it did on launch, HOWEVER from my very first drive test drive in 2016 [UK] the ride has always felt unsophisticated and lumpen compared to its competitors [driven lots of them] so I initially passed on it. AIR or SPRINGS, 19", 20", 21" wheels, make very little difference. It's probably caused by the transverse leaf spring rear axle. I owned a V90, which is the same platform, and that suffered from the same ride issues but was an amazing lease deal, and ended up loving the car, gateway drug it turns out!
    XC90 was always at the back of my mind and, several years later, notwithstanding the poor ride, I bought an XC90 T8 4in 2020, and love it. Great Scandi image, amazing audio system, great app, and a lovely, roomy interior for two six-foot sons, PLUS 20 miles of EV range which I use for most of my local journies. Been reliable too at 105k miles.

      I own a factory ordered 2020 V90 Inscription T6 AWD (non-R, non-CC). The power is adequate. The styling in beautiful. The seat comfort is superb, particularly on long drives. With this said, the ride can get harsh on rough roads and tire noise is notable, particularly for a "luxury" car.

      Just put some new 20" tyres on to replace my factory Continentals and must say ride quality and tyre noise are much improved! I'd say 20-30% improvement, very noticeable. Still has that brittleness in extremes, but better for sure.

    We have owned a 2017 T8 and has been mostly trouble free for 66000km. Lots to like about it that has been mentioned, but there a few drawback to consider. The early models have a small EV battery that gets depleted quickly, the rotors are inadequate and warp easily, the sir suspension can get a bit unsettled, the sensus system can be a bit slow. In relative terms, they are not big issues, but rather amplified by how good the car is overall. I would still highly recommend it. If they sold a diesel in Canada, that would be the one I would choose, also because of the more typical AWD. The T8 with the eAWD behaves like a front wheel drive SUV under slippery conditions, and personally I would prefer a rear wheel drive biased drivetrain.

    I've been driving various volvo cars through their M mobility app (rental cars from volvo) and I have noticed that they have very bad noise insulation. Even though they are equiped with dual windows, I hear lots of noice from cars passing by, to the point that sometimes I feel like a window isn't properly closed. I wonder if this is something others have noticed or it's just the case with those cars it happened to drive. I've driven so far the XC40 B4 Diesel, V60 B4 Dielsel, V60 T8 Recharge.

The Plus is the trim level that I have on my 2022 diesel XC90 and I’d say that the level of road/wind noise is only just about acceptable, though not helped by the fact that it has 21” rims and also as a Plus model lacks the air suspension which you get on the Ultimate model.

      I own an XC40 2021 and yes, the noise can get quite bad sometimes. Largest I've measured was 70 dB(A) on 110 km/h on a highway. That's loud and uncomfortable to me. Quitest was in the city at 50 km/h on a soft asphalt - 53 dB(A), but who cares, at 50 km any car will be quiet :D. Currently waiting for an XC60 (delivery next year) and it'll have double laminated glass (a separate option in the configurator), hope it will help, because on the XC40 the wind noise can get bad, with which the double glass should help. Road noise could be improved with quiter tires and some aftermarket wheel arch noise treatment (I doubt it's very effective though, I'd expect 1-2 dB noise reduction at max). I'd look at BMW/Audi for more comfort, but the longer electric range in hybrid mode + that B&W sound system swayed me to the XC60

    It’s a cracking car but not in the same price/segment as the EX90 - they should continue making this model - although it needs an update - as a lot of people are not convinced that electric cars are the future and the way to go. It’s a shame that Volvo have been suckered in to the ‘let’s replace all of our ICE cars with electric ones’ but there you go.
    Electric cars have a place in the automative world, for sure, but they aren’t necessarily the answer for everyone.
    Question: Would you rather drive your family from the centre of England to the south of France in an electric car or a diesel Volvo? I know which one I’d pick…!

    I drive now for 2 months /7500km a B5 diesel version, Plus Dark trim. Was not my first choice, but it was the best option from selection available in the leasing company. It's 5 seat version and that comes with a nagging problem - yes, you get a spare tire, and some more storage, actually quite a lot in the place where the 2 seats would be, you can hide all your little junk stuff that you lug around, umbrellas, blanket, first aid kit etc., to always have clean luggage "main area", but around the spare wheel, they just place a styrofoam cuts, it's a joke. They don't fit exactly, the cabling from subwoofer and whatever is there, is loose there, so their only fix was to just protect it with piece of styrofoam. these things produce a cacophony of sounds when you drive, it's crazy. And they way the sound travels, it took me good few weeks to figure out it's coming from there, so I had to just cut pieces of textile and stuff it all around the sparewheel to not have a brand new expensive car squeak like a Yugo off road. I don't know who configured the car, but he should not have ordered the extra 500 EUR wipers with integrated washers. They make zero difference, you just eat through the washer fluid like I've never seen, luckily the filler cap is conveniently placed. I hate leather seats, not because of "higher principles", why waste the package my beef came in, but I have the ventilated seats option which kinda negates the side effects of leather in summer. But only for front passengers, Audi offers ventilated seats in the back as well. I have love&hate relationship with Android Automotive. It's great to have google maps as native app, but - even 2024 models, no freakin' wireless connection with your phone. THe car has wifi module. So it's clearly just either volvo or google not allowing it, out of spite? Took them a long time to allow carplay, meanwhile they allow carplay navigation info to be displayed on driver's screen, but for car this size, still not supporting the self-parking features is kinda a joke, since the car had it 9 years ago. Also the trip computer, you can have your current drive and long-term, while it's a standard for decades to have one that calculates the trip since last refuel, and most of the time you have trip A, trip B. I do miss any kind oif setting/driving mode in standard B5 models, because to meet the emission limits, they simply can't, the transmission would really benefit to have a sport mode. The biturbo diesel is surprisingly punchy, I drove XC90 D5 many years ago on a trip in GB, it had much less power and higher consumption (10L/100), my average on the B5 diesel with the mhev, with about 40more hp is 7,5, and I don't drive economically. On B roads, when I dont get on the highway, on my usual errand trip of 90km with 10km in the city, I can make it 6.3-6.8, for a car this size it's rather great. I don't have the air suspension, and on the R20 I was afraid of it, but it is surprisingly comfortable. I was not able to find out if the Ultimate comes with double glazing, didn't find any mention in specs or price lists. Not even sure if they still offer it double glazed, but wind noise and road noise are a problem indeed, at least in US they still seem to offer with double glazing for all but the basic trim level. Now on winter tyres it's better, which it normally shouldn't, but OE tires were Conti EcoContact, and any of these "eco" tyres are firm and noisy af.

    Yes, because hybrid is the best option to bridge to an electric future, and their plug-in hybrid is a reasonable option . There still are hurdles to electric power, from charge time, range, battery composition and most importantly how the power you use is generated. If the power comes from coal fired power plants, electric cars are a moot point.
