Great video indeed. I am a retired police officer, and one day while working in investigations, I went to the local Pawn shop, where much of the stolen property ends up. While standing there looking at the stuff for sale and chatting with the shop owner, in comes a man with some items for sale. Now, I am dressed in civilian clothes, however the tie was a giveaway, not to mention that cheap Sears sports jacket and the hand held radio. The "thief" looks at me, snarls and asks if I was a cop or something. I answered yes and asked, why is that stuff stolen. He then blew me away with his answer "Hah ! yeah it is, but I didn't steal it here, I got it out there at Fort Ord, so you can't touch me" I radioed dispatch and asked them to contact the police at Ft Ord and sure enough, they were at a residence where the crime occurred. I politely smiled and said, Gotcha ! and it was downhill for the thief. I went out to his taxi and advised the driver his fare had other means of transportation. Some of the items were still in the original boxes and the owner had the receipt. This doesn't happen often , but love it when it does. Pawn shop owners are a hard working decent bunch of folks and often would call me when they suspect something was amiss. It's the addicts that are stealing these items for the most part. The real crooks don't even work, however co workers, well you know. Great video and thanks for doing your part. Sorry for the long drawn out story. You aught to hear my war stories from Vietnam. (just kidding) Ken....Retired US Army and retired PD. Yup I'm an old guy.

On construction sites , to keep my ladders from being stolen , I would screw a length of framing scrap to the side of the ladder . Then wrap it with duct tape . Smear some drywall mud on the rest . People won't steal your tools if they look like garbage.

In the USA on most commercial or industrial sites, intentionally compromising a ladder would be a fast way to have to buy another ..

I hate a thief. One morning after I retired, I went out to my truck, and opened the drivers side door and out fell the bracket to my scanner. I know for a fact I had recorded the serial number, so I found the number and took it to the PD and updated my case. I got a bit of a chuckle from guys I knew. They asked if I had locked my truck. I had locked the truck, however the "thief" had pried open the rear slider window and gained entry. Like you say, I never got the scanner back. The PD's don't use that kind of commo anymore and just about everything comes over the computer, making for a pretty quiet PD. I enjoyed busting a thief, no matter what his MO was. It was so satisfying catching a thief, and personally returning the property, especially when it's some little kid's game or a guys tools. I always got the same sad story, how "My mommy didn't love me, and I need money for meds. Yeah right "meds" DRUGS . A damn thief is a thief whatever the reason.

You have to catch them yourself and use brutal violence. No one else cares man. These should have their hands removed but it keeps people busy and small business booming. Theives should have nails driven through their hands and bake in the sun with no purpose but to feed vultures.

My cousin steals from job sites & his family, so when he brought a socket set to our Gramdma's house, I took it to police. They said because there's no identification, there's nothing they can do, so I had to leave the socket set at our Gramdma's. I know most people don't do it, but engraving your tools is necessary. A rotary engraver can do plastic, but only reciprocating engraver will go deep enough on hard steel.

I like my stuff as visible and redundant as possible if they can’t see it they may think there is no identifying marks therefore giving them more reason to want to steal it maybe they’re on the fence about stealing it and they see you have identifying marks it may show them away from stealing but if they see oh there’s no marks on here I could probably get away with this they might actually take it they might use it for themselves and you may never see him again to even try and use your identifying marks to recover

We also are having some tools simple tools such as shovel, spade, hedge trimmers with long handles and short etc...but from good qualities. Here we just discovered a missing ... branch cutter with long handles.
On this small place we can't go to the assurance or police.
We will start to make a mark with spray paint with a obvious colour.
If possible we're open for easy and simple solutions without buying more stuff we don't have room to put away.
Just a way to disprove to steal!!!

What sucks is when something comes up missing it is always said, did you see who did it? Did you catch them? Do you have any proof? No? Sorry we cant do anyrhing. So it would be best to use dummy tools with trackers and see who takes the bait. Then create enough head trauma to create memory loss. Then report it. If anyone asks, "Where is your proof?" Respond with, look at their eye and face. The dude won't be able to use his hands for months." Because while South of the border or in your trashy home you grew up in, it might be ok. But some of us see it as you stealing from their baby or family. If there is no immediate family you are supporting it makes it even more legit to break your bones. JS, dont steal 🤗

Total waste of time, dangerous with your flaming hot "branding tool", and sloppy because you can't write with it, and you mar your tool to where now it has rough edges. Simply get a metal scribe pen for $4 off ebay. They work great, they etch into metal, and you can write your name on the INSIDE of battery compartments, or ends of tools, etc.

Doing a reno for my sister on her first home...This morning, I walked into where I had been keeping my tools, only to find the rear door kicked in. They took my new compound mitre saw, fein multimaster, and a commercial belt sander. Around $1500 of stuff gone and I was doing the job for free. Earlier in the week I noticed two guys walking by far too frequently. My intuition told me they were casing my stuff. I even mentioned them to my sister. I figured locking my stuff up in the back room would be good enough. I was wrong. This is the first time I have been robbed. It sucks.
A local opioid epidemic is sending people off their rocker. A small town in Ontario Canada, where up until recently, many still left there doors unlocked. My only advice to anyone reading this is trust your gut. I should have taken a picture of the two guys. Also, take the two seconds and barricade the door handle with a jam stick.

100% tools tend to be stolen from Vans or unattended sites. Stop carrying all your tools in vans and dont leave tools on site !
