wow, just made for the first time today and not entirely sure what to think, though i'm impressed. you have the tartness of the pineapple offset by the sweetness of the mango mixed with the smokiness of the bacon and the juiciness of a nathan's dog with the sour cream mellowing and just bringing everything together. it's good to see a good ole boy open himself to unconventional flavors. i always appreciate new experiences myself and this was definately one. i've only been watching your channel for a couple months and finding things like this make digging through your back catalog worthwhile. you have my thanks sir.
I remember this creation very well, and we just loved them. Thought of it off the top of my head, but it really did come together as I planned, and I really need to revisit this recipe again. Not on camera, just make them again. Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it, and glad you enjoyed them and also glad to hear your going back on my older videos. Lots of good recipes over the past 5 years. Thanks again!
Hey man, just found this channel, immediately became a fan. I enjoy that you care about the food, and hold no prejudice to the ingredients...if it tastes good, it tastes good! Keep up the good work and stay inventive in your food!
Don't why dogs don't come pre-wrapped in bacon in the first place, now that you've shown it! And Rus, I love it when an "authentically" titled recipe is deemed not quite authentic by virtue of the chef's choice! That is a truly honest cook :)
Now that is a great idea Randy! A pre-wrapped dog with bacon would sell, or at least I would buy them for sure! Randy these should actually have another name all together, but it is a spin off from the Sonoran hog dog, but I had to make sure I explained that, so I didn't get a lot of "That's not how you do it" from hotdog connoisseurs knowing what an authentic Sonoran dog is suppose to be. ;)
Oh yeah The Sonoran Dog!! Great version! they also put refried beans and sometimes whole blk beans.. but no beans needed on this dog and it came out fantastic!! Brother
Thanks Manuel, and yeah, I did a lot of searching and seen where beans is usually used, but you know me, I had to put my twist to it. I'm not even sure that it could be classified as a Sonoran dog at all, but it sure is tasty what ever you want to call it, lol ;)
Hey Russ How are you! That is one fantastic hot dog right there you came up with, great recipe for your Sonoran Hot Dog, they are my favorite that I've made a few times, great video Russ, sometime I'll get around to making a video of my version it different but I do really like yours. Thanks for sharing and take care down there!
good idea for hot dogs looks good but you probably want to make the pineapple, mango, avocado and jalapeno salsa with lime before hand so it is ready for the toppings and top it up with the crema and fresh chives there is another recipe you might like and it s a Colombian Hot dog very popular there, Grill hot dogs and warm buns like you did and for the sauce you use what is call Salsa Rosada or pink sauce which is made with half mayonaise and half ketchup stir until it looks pink, then top the hot dog with that along with dice pineapples and crush potato chips on top, try it you might like it
Great looking hot dogs! I love Nathan's dogs and the toppings look killer. I agree with you about cilantro, a little bit goes a long way in my opinion. Great work Rus!
Thanks Greg! Nathan's are really good, and usually my dog of choice. Yeah, cilantro adds a wonderful flavor to certain things, but it just can't be over done. A little bit goes a long way for sure ;)
I thoroughly enjoyed that! Me, way back in the days of my youth...uh hum.12'ish me thinks...was introduced to bacon wrapped hot dogs by my Uncle. I always thought it was an American dish just not popular in the south...but later on in years I realized that my Uncle was head of a large cotton plantation there in Indianola, Ms...where I was born....and come to think of it...he had Mexicans working for him. So that might explain how he came to know this delicious delight. Anywho...I've been making those piglet puppies ever since then....on and off, thru me youthful adult hood...It was recently about a year ago when I discovered the Hobo Stove I made my little bitty video featuring none other than the Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs...I love bacon...bacon is good on ICE CREAM...lol...when you get a chance here's the link... ManLand - Hobo Stove - Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs By-the-way...yours look waaaayyyyyy tastier...especially the Jalapeno addition...
Yeah, the bacon wrapped hotdog is nothing new for sure. I've done them deep fried as well, but didn't realize at the time, that it was a Mexican street vendor thing that has spread all over the states as well. I didn't know you were born in MS! That's pretty cool. I was born and bred right here on the MS coast. Going to check your video out now. Thanks for watching Man Land :)
Thanks Brian! They were awesome brother! Yeah, a guy I work with did original music for my intro. I'm shooting a music video for him very soon. Look in the description box for links to his music when you get time. Thanks again Brian :)
Awesome lookin dog there Rus,Ive never had a mexican street dog they look good, but Iam like 50 miles from LA CA.to far to drive for a dog when you can make your own just like you did.I would do my own like you did and get a good dog ,but out here all grocrey stores sell major brand hot dogs bacon wrapped.
Thanks Cris! I was just talking with someone the other day about how hotdogs should come already wrapped in bacon, because it's so good! I had no idea they were already doing it.
yes brother out here they do. from like Hoffy and other big hot dog makers ,but Iam like you would rather get the nathans, hebrew nationals and so on.start with a good dog.we dont grill substandard steaks or brisket .we get the good stuff.
OH yeah, I love those layers of flavor Rus. Bacon, Pineapple, Mango, Red Onion, Jalapenos....dang man, you totally killed it on this cook. Way to go!!!!
Wow everyone loves food, especially good food coming from from the best of unique recipes that hit the spot ! Great work, new subscriber and hope you can introduce more food artistry I don't care what category of food from bbq to street dogs keep it up 👌
Looks amazing! I might have to take a trip to the roach coach later. Btw, Sonoran dogs are a Tucson favorite. If you're ever down this way, you need to take a trip to El Guerro Canelo and try an original Sonoran dog :)
happy belated thanksgiving Rus yo Rus I want one of those dogs. You need to open a restaurant that delivers frozen goods all over the country like Pig of the month.
Damn those look good! I love the pineapple and mango SR touch. It looks like you didn't need the toothpicks - did the bacon just stick to the dogs? Mind if I steel your recipe and make a video? Cam
Thanks Cam! Yeah, toothpicks would have been a waste of time. The bacon shrunk around the dog, and adhered just fine. Sure Cam, you can do a video on any of my recipes anytime you like :)

Really different flavors, the mango, pineapple and the avacado mixed w the jalapeno peppers and the onions, and the best part? Bacon!!

Only people that could dislike this video are internet troll in my opinion. Great video!

Great looking dawgs man. Are you going to make it Saturday at 12 for the Thanksgiving talk about live event?

Looks amazing! I might have to take a trip to the roach coach later. Btw, Sonoran dogs are a Tucson favorite. If you're ever down this way, you need to take a trip to El Guerro Canelo and try an original Sonoran dog :)
Thank you, and I hope to try an original one day. That would be great! :)

Oh man, I wish you could have found Mango, but it should still be good regardless ;)
happy belated thanksgiving Rus yo Rus I want one of those dogs. You need to open a restaurant that delivers frozen goods all over the country like Pig of the month.
Thank you, and I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving as well. Hey, you never know, I may do something like that at some point :)

Smoky...that looks incredible...I'm a hot dog guy...thanks...
Terry Martin Thanks Terry! These are really good :)
Smoky, did you ever have Pete's Famous...downtown B'ham? They had a special sauce that was outstanding...
No, I've never been there Terry. Would love to know what the sauce was.
Unfortunately it closed when Gus died...like he told us it would...pretty good run...90 years...blog.al.com/spotnews/2011/04/beloved_birmingham_hot_dog_man.html...I found this on the net...I never tried it...www.food.com/recipe/petes-famous-hotdogs-sauce-499396
Wow! 90 years! Thanks for the link Terry
You get the best bacon. Here in Chicago it's mostly fat.
*TIP:* I cook with Apple Cider Vinegar all the time. Try sprinkling some over salads, greens/spinach/kale/broccoli, meats, etc.
wow i want one
Are you going to start your hot dog recipe series again?
I'll be adding one here and there into the playlist like I did this one. The series actually did quite well as far as views go. It is some of my most watched videos. I may do another one pretty soon. Thanks for watching :)
excellence Rus!
Thanks Michael! :)
Your the greatest lol
I don't know about that, but thanks for watching :)
All you need is a cart with Mariachi music playing to sell those bad dogs! I'll take two extra jalapeños please!
I could probably sell the fire out of them too, lol! Order up :D
I'm wondering why I didn't found this channel before. :(
I don’t know but I’m glad you did 🙂
Bro sour cream and hotdogs are the best🌭
MEXCIAN FRUIT DOG!.
I’m not sure because Mexico don’t use sour cream or fruit. Just saying. Hope gos well.
It looks good but I think you should have sautéed the fruit in a chile sauce first ? I’m a gringo living in Central America ? Raw fruit to me ; doesent ‘t
doesn’t work
Then I would say, do it however you like. It's your hotdog after all :)
Or what!
I hope these street dogs are better than street tacos.
I live in Texas. I went to Mexican town recently because I kept hearing about street tacos being so much better than Taco Bell and all that. What a joke. The corn tortillas were greasy, the meat was tasteless and they only believe in onion and cilantra as toppings. I got my curiosity settled, and never want another.
I think you would be pleasantly surprised with these dogs here. They are delicious, not greasy, and much more toppings than onion and cilantro. Hope you give them a try sometime. Thanks for watching
The fruits should have been grilled as well
That was a a messy 1
it aint a dog without mustard or ketchup, surely ?
I don't want to know what mustard and ketchup would taste like with pineapple, mango, and avocado. I love mustard on a chili dog or any type American style dog, but not this one, but like I said in the video, you can build them anyway you want to. We all have different taste, and nothing is wrote in stone when it comes to dogs or anything else.
never seen pineapple or mango in a hot....... and That's not a Mexican hot dog I'll tell you that right now!!!... take the fruit out!... and just put onions tomatoes jalapenos and whatever condiment you want. Now that's a Mexican hot dog.... you made a version of a white man's hot dog...
+David Gomez White man's hot dog? Hot Dogs do not originate from Mexico. Y'all have simply put your own twist to a white mans invention. German to be exact. I would try this before I knocked it. The fruit is what really makes this so delicious, and it's more of American twist on a Sonoran dog that would be typically sold by vendors in the US as I said in the video.
+David Gomez "White man's dog". You know you're talking about a largely German invention appropriated by white Americans here right?
Yep! Exactly!
first of all Germans or white people didn't put bacon around the hot dog... Mexicans put the bacon around the hot dogs that's their spin on their style of hot dogs. But anyways Everybody Eats the way they like... but I would actually put pineapples in a hotdog to see how it will taste but not mango. I'll give it a try one day...
Ewwwww
this is what we Mexican people call white people food. as soon as my mom saw the fruit she screamed in disbelief.
+elfederal01 Call it what you want, I call it good! This is one tasty dog
I don't care who calls it what
I want it in my belly!
I'm with you Alex! :D
2 words, rusty, 2 words.
GOODNESS OVERLOAD!
oh and love your new theme song.
Yes it was! I could go for a few right now! Thanks about the song! :D
