When I was a boy in Chicago in the 1950s, the hot dogs from a food cart vendor at North Ave and Kedzie had cucumber slices, not a dill pickle spear. The last Chicago dog I had with cucumber slices was in about 1977 or 1978.

Their beef is good, but like a combo with hot peppers from Pop's...Portillo's has best chili cheese dog with onions and best chicago style dog..gotta get the double bacon cheeseburger too. The burger is worth $8.50
Portillos beef is good, the cake shake is great; the dogs are alright, for a chain. A lot of the local places do crispy crinkle cut fries with Merkt's cheddar.....that's the way to do it. It's like 2500 calories though.
Not just the casing the Vienna beef dog uses bull meat for color and texture. Nothing in Portillo's is the best.. but everything is very very good and and everyone can agree to go there. May not be your favorite but damn it is good.

I used to eat at Fatso’s when it was Pepe’s when I grew up in the Ukie Village. I miss Chicago food- especially Johnnies, hubs, and Lou’s now that I live downstate. Got Portillo in Champaign, that’s something.
