  • I wanted to share this short breakdown of my latest trumpet track to show how I utilize Meshuggah's riffs to compose my music. I used Loopback to capture my screen and audio, but the trial version limits my recording time, so I had to move FAST. Let me know if there is a compositional section, musical concept, trumpet sound, or other topic you want more clarification on in the comments!

Sick break down and creative interpretation of the grid. I always wanted Meshuggah to bring a horn section on tour to thicc up the sound. If they do i hope you get that call!
Btw if you create more breakdowns like this in the future that use odd groupings, it'd be dope to see the main grid you already wrote out + a 2nd line directly underneath it that shows the rhythm of the solo'd instrument being played. After letting the solo instrument play for a bit like you already do during the demonstration, unmute the horns that conform to the main grid at 2:04 (assuming it's still present) so we can better understand how the new rhythms sound playing to and against the grid. This would help the slower cats like me create a stronger visual and auditory connection.
Love your music and keep on killin it

Oooooo thank you for the feedback! And thank you for watching it 🫶🏿. That might be tricky to accomplish on my current notation software, but could experiment with a second line of music. I tend not to write out how this fits in 4/4 and just focus on the macro cycle, knowing I’ll hit the down beat after X times repeating, and allow the phrase to land where it needs instead of knowing and planning where each note fits within a 4/4 structure.

No time to truncate. This riff is too perfectly imperfect and indigestible 🤘🏿
