I trained and earned several degrees as a classical trumpet player, but never fully resonated with the conservatory repertoire. Rock and metal always captured my heart though. After diving headfirst into the world of Karlheinz Stockhausen, I now feel unrestrained from my former classical shackles and seek to fulfill my true path as a metal trumpeter. I aim to get a little solo up here on UA-cam every Monday.

Violent Sleep of Reese's - Review of No Cow’s Mighty Treats Peanut Butter Cups
Hope everyone is enjoying their Mayshuggah! I recorded a new trumpet track based on some rhythmic patterns found in Meshuggah’s “Violent Sleep of Reason” and used it to accompany a silly video of me pseudo reviewing No Cow’s sugar free peanut butter cups. The video also features a chord progression loosely inspired by Giant Steps and ending lyrics about my love/hate relationship to processed foods, even these “healthy” options.
Venturing from their protein bar outpouring, No Cow released a MIGHTY TREATS line-up spearheaded by an iconic candy classic: The Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup!
This delicious confection nails it with a delicious vegan milk chocolate style coating whose sweet cocoa flavor tastes reminiscent of brownie batter. The peanut butter filling falls short texturally, crumbling apart and leaving my mouth very dry. Despite the dryness, the actual filling tastes quite pleasant. Heating up the cups softened the peanut butter core to the right texture, but sadly leaves an inconvenient melted chocolatey mess. I will stick with room temp or cold cups.
These may not capture the experience of eating a beloved Reese’s exactly, but they do provide a delicious sugar free snack that beats eating sugar laden candy any day.

Broken Cobb…Ler - Review of No Cow’s Blueberry Cobbler Bar
Переглядів 52Місяць тому
I spent this week to reexamining the opening of Meshuggah’s “Broken Cog” after hearing it incorrectly for almost two years. I set my exploratory trumpet track to a short video review of Now Cow’s Blueberry Cobbler protein bar and end lyrics viscerally depicting the clumsily messy dessert we call a “cobbler.” I first discovered No Cow while visiting GNC in 2017 after spotting several of their fl...
YYZ Guitar Solo on Trumpet
Переглядів 1,4 тис.Місяць тому
I found myself obsessively replaying Rush in my head lately. This musical possession led me to transcribe and play one of my absolute favorite guitar solos of all time on trumpet. I used to play “YYZ” in Guitar Hero 2 for HOURS during my high school years. Working this solo out on the trumpet rekindled amazingly fond memories and made me actually feel like somewhat of a guitar hero myself.
Breakdown of "Born in Coconuts"
Переглядів 114Місяць тому
I wanted to share this short breakdown of my latest trumpet track to show how I utilize Meshuggah's riffs to compose my music. I used Loopback to capture my screen and audio, but the trial version limits my recording time, so I had to move FAST. Let me know if there is a compositional section, musical concept, trumpet sound, or other topic you want more clarification on in the comments!
Born In Coconuts - Review of No Cow’s Dipped Chocolate Coconut Almond Bar
Переглядів 127Місяць тому
Even though I lost an hour to DST yesterday, I somehow found time to compile this new trumpet track and video. Each trumpet layer derived its length and structure based to on the opening riff to Meshuggah’s “Born in Dissonance.” Video features me devouring the now retired Coconut Almond No Cow bar and ending lyrics about my distain for coconut as a kid. No Cow’s dipped protein bars may look clo...
This Spiteful Cake - Review of No Cow’s Dipped Birthday Cake Bar
Переглядів 1592 місяці тому
Last week ushered in bevy of of birthdays within my friend circle, so I reviewed No Cow’s Birthday Cake bar to celebrate 🎉 . I recorded a trumpet track based on a fun riff from Meshuggah’s “This Spiteful Snake” and ended it nightmarish lyrics describing eating a birthday cake in a manner fit for a cult-like ritual sacrifice. No Cow’s original non dipped Birthday Cake bar sat in my top 5 flavors...
Peanuts In A Discordant Butter - Review of No Cow’s Chunky Peanut Butter Bar
Переглядів 2202 місяці тому
Time for some peanut butter appreciation today. This Meshuggah drenched No Cow review features a trumpet track based on the verse riff from “Dancers to a Discordant System” to accompany their chunky peanut butter flavored protein bar 🥜. Growing up, my picky eating ways relegated my diet to consist of primarily of Kraft mac and cheese and JIF peanut butter🥹😋! I never legitimately calculated the ...
New Millennium Cinnamon Rolls - Review of No Cow’s Dipped Sticky Cinnamon Roll Bar
Переглядів 1973 місяці тому
To kick off February, I pay tribute to No Cow’s Dipped Sticky Cinnamon Roll bar with a trumpet track based on rhythmic fragments lifted from Meshuggah’s “New Millennium Cyanide Christ” and grotesque ending lyrics painting Chaospheric depictions of everyone’s beloved sweet cinnamon rolls. Enjoy this goofy video and food review 🤘🏿😎 When I eat a protein bar, I desire a BRICK of protein that tastes...
S’mores Pulled at Random- Review of No Cow’s S’Mores Bar
Переглядів 1423 місяці тому
I accompanied No Cow’s S’mores protein bars with this trumpet track rhythmically based on the opening of Meshuggah’s “Straws Pulled at Random” and Chaosphere inspired ending lyrics “innocently” describing everyone’s favorite campfire treat. Childhood memories of making S’mores around a fire with friends and family brings a warmth to my soul hotter than the marshmallows I inevitably scorched in ...
The Lemon’s Name Is Surveillance - Review of No Cow’s Lemon Meringue Pie Bar
Переглядів 993 місяці тому
Another snow day, another No Cow review/Meshuggah/trumpet abomination. Today’s lemon flavored track was inspired by the additive rhythmic structure from “The Demon’s Name is Surveillance.” Think 1, 1-2, 1-2-3, 1, 1-2, 1-2-3, etc. Ending lyrics again in the style of Meshuggah… if they wrote about fruit 🍋 The thought of Lemon Meringue Pie never appealed to me, but this bar deserved a chance. Out ...
Thin Mints Collide - Review of No Cow’s Dipped Chocolate Mint Cookie Bar
Переглядів 763 місяці тому
I took advantage of my snow day today to finish this minty Meshuggah track I recorded to match yet another No Cow bar flavor. I applied E minor scale shapes to the opening rhythmic pattern from “Glints Collide” to help me internalize its groove. Closing words spoof the lyrics from the same song 🤘🏿❤️🎺 No Cow converted yet another one of their original flavors to the dipped bar line up with their...
Donut Look Down - Review of No Cow’s Dipped Sprinkled Donut Bar
Переглядів 1213 місяці тому
I used to eat a chocolate donut every Sunday after church with my family as a kid, however some weeks, my prized chocolate donut would be sold out. I transformed myself into a lump and hid under the table in sullen injustice. This unhealthy habit of shutting down still manifests in my adult years and I use this donut analogy to address it, and create awareness of such comic futility and move on...
Dipped Reminiscion - Review of No Cow’s Strawberry Shortcake Bar
Переглядів 1448 місяців тому
When I saw No Cow released a new Strawberry Shortcake protein bar, I HAD to pounce on it, and let me tell you….. the strawberry flavor sent me into nostalgic bliss. Memories of gleefully munching on strawberry shortcake Good Humor bars and strawberry Eggos waffles as a young lad swept through my head. Now I relive those sweet memories without all the sugar but ALL the protein. I pay homage to t...
Meshuggah’s “Vanished” Guitar Solo on Trumpet
Переглядів 1,1 тис.10 місяців тому
I worked on the guitar solo from Meshuggah’s “Vanished” this week by recording it at a tempo slow enough to play along. I gradually increased to higher speeds recording takes along the way so I had a small choir of previous successful takes to accompany me. My top tempo is still super sloppy and a challenge for my fingers, but hopefully reuniting and stewing with my trumpet family at The Chosen...

I feel like its more of a Saxophone solo
You could be a shampoo endorsee.
this feels like i'm 80 y/o sitting by the ocean reminiscing on happy memories of headbanging to meshuggah liveshow.
Deep down, we're all just octogenarian metalheads 🤘🏿
This is actually too good... the swells really remind me of the storm intro on GY!BE lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven album. Marrow is a really interesting Meshuggah track because the rhythmic fragments and phrases are individually quite easy building blocks, but then they really don't repeat or fall in any kind of intuitive pattern. That's probably why this approach to the idea is so lush and hypnotic. I've been absolutely worshipping sons of kemet lately, and I'm just imagining some of the percussive chonky honky lungbutter tuba used in some djenty interpretations 🤤😵 - that would go so hard.
Rad 🤜
Dark Jazz
Amazing!!
Its “obscene”
Needs some more "zen" to complete the Obzen
fucking amazing!!!
The one piece of music that always seems to make me well up and you added extra emotion to it, excellent stuff
If crying to Meshuggah is wrong, I don't wanna be right 🥲
@@Mileshuggah exactly 🙏 this bit hits me so hard already but that very first line into it just amps it up so hard. I've actually started to learn it on guitar, as best I can anyway
OHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
u rly open my eyes to new world of harmony and meoldy - thank
Anytime 😎! Thank you so much for checking this one out
Мешугу нужно слушать всем телом, не только ушами!
Perfection.
Haha that's great!
wait... is he actually harmonizing instead of playing unison? fucking WILD
this is my shit!!
nice!!
just exquisite and beautiful tone on this performance, it sounds so righteous and emotional!
Awwww thank you! Fred's solo always convey a specific flavor existential lament/torment.
This is incredible. I would listen to 10 albums of this.
Ask and ye shall receive 🎺😎 Just so happen to have 10 albums on my bandcamp jeromeburns.bandcamp.com/
This is brilliant
This is beautiful...
Absolutely beautiful.
Bro, your skills are 👌🏻
You’re too kind, man 🥹🥹🥹. I still feel like a kid tinkering around with this stuff.
Congrats on raising a Meshuggah disciple, Mrs. Burns.
She seems… “thrilled” 🤣🤣🤣. I know her musical heart of hearts would rather have “Motown Monday” 🕺🏿
Horn sounds sick
Time to get it to more of a “diseased” status now
One day, I am longing for it, you will play along with the band. There is one guy in Canada with a similar desire. I can almost feel it.
Time for me to move to Canada 🇨🇦

Good.
Now do the riff
Ugh, I know 🤣🤣🤣. My triple tonguing is a major playing weak point. Thank you for the reminder though. Time to start shedding 🤘🏿
fucking sick dude!
You act like you're surprised.
You right 🤣. Needed the excuse to be goofy and dramatic
@@Mileshuggah Nailed it.
This is haunting. I mean that as a compliment
I love it! Thank you so much 🤘🏿
This reminds me of jaga jazzist. I love them just as much ❤️
Amazing work!!
You should be allowed free admission to all Meshuggah shows henceforth.

my favorite version of this solo is the one in the ophidian trek, first heard it in the wincent drum cam video and it sent me straight into the stratosphere
WHAT

Any time I hear meshuggah covered on a different instrument it just confirms for me how amazing their songs are as pure compositions. Props man, you killed it!
Thank you thank you! Happy to hear this video served Meshuggah justice and shed light on the subtler genius of their writing 🥹🫂
nailed it
