      Apologia Studios, I am new to your channel and was very curious about this video. However, I am so disheartened after just 25 minutes of watching, because you have not set this up well to bring in new viewers and it shows. There were SO MANY references to things that I had never heard of: other cult leaders, other cult titles, specific historical instances, etc. I found myself having to stop the video every few minutes to google some sort of information and it quickly turned your enrichment podcast into a burden. Then, when I hit the 25 minutes mark where Y2K is referenced…the host explained it. He made the assumption that some viewers didn’t know what that was (though I’m sure the large majority did), but never bothered doing the same for everything else that only a small cache of people already interested in cults would know. I recognize that the show can’t be stopped for a full explanation of everything; but, good gracious, if you’re going to mention a person’s name 15+ times, make sure to tell your viewers what on earth you’re talking about!! And don’t assume that viewers who wouldn’t know what Y2K was would have any better knowledge of 70 years ago. I can’t even watch this because I have no reference points and I can only imagine how many others feel similarly if they’re brand new to the series.

    Y2K was (I’m old so I can clarify for you😂), due to the fact that all computers only had two digits for the year, so the year part of the date was “84” instead of “1984”. They were very concerned that when all these computers went to “00”, they would malfunction and the apocalypse would ensue.

      Ohhh I remember my dad going into our computer and changing the shown date to a four digit for the sake of our computer not crashing. I was a freshman in high school… totally remember the freak out!

      What I remember about it was that in around 97-98 I was looking at buying some land in Georgia near Dahlonega to build a cabin. At that time, the land was cheap there so I thought I had some time. Right around the so-called Y2K scare I was prepared to buy some land, and it like quadrupled in price because of so many people buying it, because all the computers were going to crash and it was going to be chaos. I remember thinking, damn, I should have bought several pieces of land in 97 and I would have made out.

    FYI: "Y2K", or "The Year 2000", was a fear that, based on the way the original computer codes were written, there weren't enough spaces for the clocks/calendars, computers (and all info contained on them, our power grid, everything), would reset or go out. That was the fear. I had just turned 18 and thought people were being ridiculous... and nothing happened.

    The cult I left sounds pretty much the same. Also, I am still having a hard time with the trinity. First, I learned that, that word is not in the bible. Second, It was an invention by the Catholic church. Third, How can God be His Son, when Jesus was on the cross calling for His father? I am listening to John MacArthur and learning a lot. But, I am still having a hard time.

    • @StarrySeafarer
      @StarrySeafarer 2 роки тому +1

      Hi! You've got some valid questions there. I've been a Christian for almost 20 years, and the doctrine of the Trinity is still difficult for me to understand, too. So you shouldn't feel bad for having a hard time with it. To answer your first two questions, you're right, the word "Trinity" is not in the Bible, instead it was coined during the early third century AD to describe the Biblical teaching that the Father, Son, and Spirit are one God yet three distinct persons at the same time. A good example of the Trinitarian nature of God in Scripture is Matt. 3:16-17, which describes Christ's baptism in the Jordan. As soon as Jesus came of of the water, the Holy Spirit descended from Heaven in the form of a dove, and God the Father spoke from heaven. In this scene, the Father, Son, and Spirit are present in the same place and time; three distinct persons, yet one God.
      To respond to your final question, the reason the Jesus could pray to the Father on the cross (and in other Bible passages as well) is because the Son and the Father are two distinct persons within God. Essentially, the Bible teaches that there is one God who exists eternally in three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
      Again, this isn't the easiest Christian doctrine to understand, so don't feel bad if you're having a hard time wrapping your head around it. Christian UA-camr Allen Parr (his channel is THE BEAT by Allen Parr) has a really good 5-minute video explaining the doctrine of the Trinity; the video is titled "The Trinity Explained in 4 Very Simple Steps." Christian Pastor and UA-camr Mike Winger also has some sermons on the Trinity as well. And of course John MacArthur is a good resource as well.
      I hope this was somewhat helpful. I'll pray that you're able to better understand this Biblical teaching.

      Having grown up in a brutally abusive situation myself, I'm going to guess that she meant her mother didn't protect her from the physical abuse. Her mom, probably being abused at the same time was trying to protect herself from the physical contact. In that kind of living situation, the abuser shuts down the mental defenses of the other parent through demoralizing and demeaning them on a consistent basis. When Naomi mentioned being thrown into concrete walls head first, so openly, I knew right then her household was brutal when her father was home.

    Polygamy is not forbidden in the Bible. Anyone to argue that is just upholding modern norms. You argue with Levitical Law not me to say otherwise. But, it's not something we tend to practice and encourage because life is easier with monogamy. In the same manner, look at how adultery is defined in the Bible, yet we extend its meaning beyond the Bible.
    It's like saying babies have eternal life. That is not Scriptural. Jesus told Nicodemus how to have eternal life (be born twice). We make up stuff that doesn't coincide to what God says, yet we uphold it as fact because of generational, hand-me-down norms.

      Your 1 loose scriptural reference would lead me to the opinion THERE IS NO HOTDOGS as well.
      Using this temple argument against somebody as an offensive tactic is ALWAYS troubling. It leads me to ponder your temple. Wonder how holy you've been keeping it each day. Perfectly? Hmm.
      The other implication you made
      That IF it was done before conversion then it is "forgivable"....what Bible did that come from? Mine, and the ones that most non cults use tells me that God does forgive sins, post conversion.
      Are you of the opinion that you no longer sin?
