- Building a Deck Frame
My wife has been asking me for years to build a deck on the back of our house. So even though it is the hottest part of the year I decided, let's build a deck. In this video, I show you the challenges and techniques I had to use to build our deck frame from scratch. Now some of the codes in my area might be different than in your area, so please always check the requirements before you start building.

Perfect timing! I need to build a smaller version of this on our chicken coop! Your video will be a great reference.
That sounds like a fun project.
You make the best how-to videos ever! Thanks for this one, I’m moving on to part 2!!
That palm nailer is cool. I don't have any pneumatic tools but if I did that would be one of them. Nice little jig you made to hold up the rim joist.
Thank you very much, if it wasn't for simple jigs I doubt I could build this by myself.
Woo Hoo! A new Deck!! Can't wait!
Nice job and good tips, nothing wrong with a bit of overkill as solid frame is needed! Keep up the great work as the goal is for us to continue to inspire others to build something awesome!👍🏼
You make it look so simple. Great Job!!
Thank You! So greatful for this as ours need an upgrade. Not to forget ours is about 36" from the ground, & ADA ( American Disability Act) rules and regulations, a foot per inch is going to make it very difficult for her ramp considering where the front deck is located. Man I wish you were close. As always thank you for sharing, oh I know I haven't said it, but it should be intuitively obvious to the most casual viewers. I love the wide range of DYIs you share never know whom needs what👍🏻
God Bless All & Be Safe!
Thanks Anthony, I love to see your comments, they always uplift me.
Awesome Video!!
Soapy water for the wasps/ hornets and bees (try not to though with bees for obvious reasons)...
I use a large squirt bottle for small nests
Pump sprayer for larger ones
Nice job, tip when cutting the ends let gravity help and cut from the top down
I really wanted to do that, but I was a little nervous with how high I would be and it just felt really unsafe. If I ever build another deck I probably will do that.
Your thumbnail is awesome 😂😂😂
Thank you, but I have to give credit to my wife on that one 😁
@@SpecificLove7 is that real baby or fake 😂
Nice job. Can’t wait to see the rest.
Great Job! WOW, that is a lot of work especially since you are doing it yourself. Look forward to the next videos on the deck.
Thank you, it is definitely a lot more than I thought it would be with only one person, but I will just keep it slow and steady so I can win the race.
What a great job 👍👍☺️ , can't wait to see it finished, you look like you lost 10 pounds after sweating so much in your suit 🐝🐝🐝🐝 but I do understand bee stings are not fun deadly at times, your tutorial was really information and very thorough five star rating in my books ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👋👋👋👋👋
Thank you very much Rhonda, and I'm sure you will be right about me losing weight by the end of this thing. 🙂
Great job wish you were to build me a deck.
Nice job. I was wondering how many of the boards did u put in between the stringers. And do they need to be staggered. Thank u for explaining how to build the frame. R u going to continue with wood if so will it be pressure treated. Or did u see pros and cons to the composite decking. I’m so confused on this part
I put one board between most of the joists, except on the ends where I added 2 for strength. I did not have to stagger them because I used screws but if I ever needed to reinforce them, I left room on the ends to add nails or screws.
And we decided to go with wood for the decking because it was still about half the price of the composite in our area.
Hopefully I will show some of that in part two.
If your wearing a hat and you want to protect your neck by tucking a clean handkerchief under the back of the your head wear .
Great tips and tricks .
Thanks Dozer, I completely forgot about that. Great tip!
Is that aluminum drip edge over the ledger board?
Is there a certain span distance, where the blocking becomes necessary? I'm currently building a ground level deck, that's 12' in the direction the joists are running. But, I put a center joist running the other direction. So, my interior joists are less than 6'. The deck is 16'x12'.
That sounds almost exactly like what we are doing. I guess great minds think alike 🙂
Ok
Use a cats paw to remove the nails
I have not heard of that tool, but I will definitely keep an eye out for it, thank you
No offense I like the video but you have to be more specific about how to build it so people can try it remember people see the videos for that reason
