I started watching cinemassacre in 2012. These last few years I've been watching a lot less. I'll be honest. Hearing Mike leaving hurt me in my soul. Good luck man, I'll continue to follow you and your work
Mikes exit from Cinemassacre is shocking to me. Mike always seemed like the secret heart and soul of that operation, with James being the driving creative force and all that.
Heard you were leaving cinnemassacre hope your further adventures in streaming go very well. You and James friendship always seemed very genuine in the videos thanks both of you for making 2020 better on UA-cam. Keep up the good work.
The 2600 Pacman manual called the dashes "video wafers".
Excellent name for a Cookie!
Damn....can't believe you're leaving, Mike! But I am glad to know you and James are on good terms. You have a new subscriber!
Yeah James and I are good. I just want to focus on streaming. I appreciate the sub.
I’m blaming that Scott the Woz guy until I hear different
@@mikematei I’m always gonna watch ur streams and support you bro, your a real gamer … a real retro gamer aswell and that is rare , keep up the awesome content 👾👾👾👾💙
I bloody needed this. Mike Matei - please don’t ever stop!
Pac-Man is obviously a sentient cheese wheel, Mike.
and thus the origins of pizza pizza were revealed
My first console. The Nes was already out but my family was too poor to buy one, so they bought this console. Nevertheless im still glad this was my first console.
I am old enough to remember video games wern't for kids
Retail reviews was the best show on cinemassacre for the last few years, are you going to produce any content like that now that you've left the channel?
The end of an era. Goodluck bro
This and Missile Command were my first Atari 2600 games, if not the first video games I played ever. I think the next big memory was seeing someone play Megaman 2 and Legendary Wings on a Nintendo. Thanks again for all the content Mike.
Cinemassacre is officially James and the 3 Incels.
What are the names of the songs played during breaks like at 0:54:30?
Funny story about Kaboom. My brother used to be amazing at the game. He would practice in order to try out for the contest Activision ran at the time. One time our little cousin was over watching him play. He was doing so good he actually made over 10,000 points. It was going so fast, and our cousin laughed so hard he actually wet himself.
It's a super challenging game that still holds up today.

Really enjoy all your streams Mike, hope you're having fun too... happy holidays
The Atari version of the E.T. theme tears me up to this day.
Just a little of the ol' FYI, E.T. really isn't the worst game ever made. In fact, it's nowhere close to the worst game. In fact, when I was a kid I really enjoyed the game...It wasn't until around 2005'ish, some 20+ years after the game was released, did I learn that it was supposedly the worst game of all time.
@Sandman Slim actually....Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
E.T was most definately the worst game ever made, i mean come on it was so bad that thousands of cartridges were rounded up sealed in a sack and then thrown in a hole in the Nevada desert and had concrete poured over it true story 😂😂😂
You’re leaving Cinemassacre!?!?
I remember playing Dark Chambers on the 2600 as a child and it still remains one of the best games I've played. What a gem of a game.
I remember playing good ol' Demon Attack on Intellivision. Have you streamed this recently or plan on doing so in the near future? That was my first family game system.
I am in shock. We all are. What happened!?
Will miss you on Cinemassacre man! #JMM
You can't go wrong with Atari! One of my favorite systems to stream :D
Brian's in the house!👍 are you going to do live stream again Brian?
I never noticed before but for some reason in the Atari 2600 version of Pacman, when you eat a pallet while facing the left side the pallet disappears before Pacman touches it, however if you’re facing the right side the pallet overlaps Pacman’s sprite before disappearing 🤔
Brown bricks
I love everything about your retro streams Mike. Thanks so much.
Dragon Fire rulez I've played it a lot at my grandpa's atari 2600 bootleg with 128 games builded in. I still have that console and play it! It also had oink!, outlaw and a lot of cool games
Did James and Mike have a fight? Mike left Cinnemassacre according to James new video released minutes ago.
No we're cool ☺️. I just want to be able to focus on live streaming.
@@mikematei Good to hear
@@mikematei ok it's your decision.
But anyways new subscriber here.
@@mikematei Wish it was that simple. You were the reason AVGN even became known in the first place. James just brushing off the news in a 2021 update video as his 4th topic like nothing happened is a bit suspect. You'd think he'd have a bit more respect towards your friendship to at least make one final video to bring this to a real closure. Cinemassacre's time has definitely run its course and it's a really sour way to end it.
@@NicoEvaluates I said something just like that on their latest video, asking why Mike didn't get a send-off since he's the reason the channel exists. They banned me.
You can't leave Cinemasscre. The channel will be dead without you. From all the years watching, you're pretty much cinemasscre from watching all your streams. I realize that throughout the years. Hope you come back
I appreciate the kind words. However I want to just do live streaming. Hope you come hang out from time to time
Atari 2600 games are in control of how many scanlines get displayed per frame. Some games deviate pretty far from "normal" NTSC. They worked on old TVs but modern video equipment has trouble syncing to those games. Apparently Jungle Hunt is one of those games.
Similar problem with Quadrun - it was apparently breaking sync when it played voice, because rendering the display on 2600 takes too much CPU time to do both.
Please do a video like this one but with the Colecovision!
Absolutely loved this Cheers Mike
Now we need an Intellivision stream... The Intellivsion II was the first console I owned as a kid, my step uncle gave me his for my birthday to see how I would take care of it and I got an NES for Christmas later that year. From time to time I'll pull it out to play Burger Time....
Mike, that "monkey" is actually a mountain lion and his name is Quickclaw. That other person you found is actually a girl named Rhonda and she is Pitfall Harry's daughter. BEFORE you grab Quickclaw, you need to go right one screen and you will be behind that rat that was forcing you back into the water at the start of the game. Because you are behind him now you can grab him for big points (I'm not sure but I think it's 15,000). The reason the game didn't end when you grabbed Quickclaw is because you missed the Raj Diamond. The game kept going because you missed the diamond. To get it, it's either the first open path or second open path to the left below Rhonda. Go to the left one screen then take a running jump off the edge of the ledge. The next part just let gravity and video game physics take over, if you jumped off of the correct ledge, you should bounce off the boulders on the left side of the screen, fall across the screen and bounce off the boulders on the right side of the screen, fall across the screen again to the left and land on a ledge, go one screen to the left and that is where the Raj Diamond is. You will get a brief ending if you get Rhonda, the Raj Diamond, and Quickclaw. The rat is optional.
I can't wait to enjoy this after work
I love how Mike's ideal super-power ( 19:00 ) would be to have gecko-eyes (one eye looking up and one eye looking down), specifically to be able to play Kaboom more effectively.
that 2600 Pacman is almost as glitched as CyberPunk
Love your Atari Streams cant wait for the next one
Holy shit I forgot all about dragon fire! I used to have this game when I was a kid and forgot all about it until I seen you play it. Crazy.
That’s my all time favorite videos from you Atari 2600 I really like the 5200 games too👌
So you and James won't do anything together anymore?☹
2600 Space Invaders is one of the greatest ports of all time, IMO. The programmer worked cleverly around system limitations - nobody at Atari expected it to be that good. Up to that point Atari was struggling. The 2600 had been out for 2 years but they were still losing money. Space Invaders was the killer game that made everybody want a 2600, and made Atari into a phenomenon. The programmer of that game got paid something like $30K.
After Atari became a money printing machine, they bought the rights to Pac-Man. The programmer who got that task delivered a rudimentary effort with terrible color and flicker problems. It was a highly visible game that disappointed everybody who saw it, painting the 2600 as obsolete and souring public interest in the system.
By this time Atari was paying royalties, so the Pac-Man programmer got over $1M in royalties for a game that only sold because of it's title.
Idk why I love playing 2600 pacman so much but it’s addicting lol
PacmaN is a bit, that bites pixels, what an amazing channel Mike merry Christmas 🎄👍
Pacman 2600 version is my fav. Love the sound. Great video. Thanks.
Funny Mike. I was just fooling around with my collection of 2600 stuff last week. Have about 100 games, some from when I was a kid that shockingly still work.
We have a room set up for retro stuff, from the Odyssey 2 to the PS1,and I'll have my 10 year old niece and 15 year old cousin play some of them just so they can see the history of games. Most Activision and Imagic games are great but Chopper Command and Atlantis are some of my favorites. And Pac Man is just a pizza with a piece missing. Lol.
Mike, switch to an Atari joystick modified with tactile microswitches instead of the stock dome switches and it will stop hurting your hands! You don't have to press nearly as hard for a direction. The one I made for myself requires no more force than with my thumb and forefinger to move around.
What about Batman link to the past randomizer? I've been waiting since February for you to continue that stream
i was so disappointed when this came out because it was nothing like the arcade version, but now i have the arcade version on my phone. +1 life goal
Do a Raph only run in TMNT, but the twist is you have to hold the controller upside down. Actually try to beat any NES game holding the controller upside down.
glad to know that you noticed views on the "old" and "new" game videos and choosen right way))
Yo did you leave cinemasscre???
Most copies of Demon Attack for Atari 2600 are glitched and crash after you beat the 84th set of enemies, apparently a later revision fixed that bug but idk how you'd tell if you're playing a glitched copy or not aside from getting to level 85.
Looks like we know which copy he has based on that stream back in January. Interesting info.
Lmao " I need one eye looking up and one eye looking down as a human... that would be perfect" that made me crack up
Would you ever get the halo 2600 game ?
"he eats minus signs"
"brown minus signs"
Idk they look more like bricks to me
Was this an emulator or on the 2600 itself. I just did a live stream from the 2600 itself last night. Just curious. The one I played on was from 1982. Cpp tech
Do you have Journey Escape?
Excellent stream Mike, thanks for the Atari 2600 awesome'ness, i love this old beauty of a console, reminds me of better days.
i had and playd pacman on nes and my grandma liked it as well i would play the atari version
19:30 .. I barely make it to 300 and he's like Godlike here...
Thanks for doing this stream
2nd generation gaming is usually too primitive for me but you warmed me up a bit.
and I legit LOLed to you complimenting the pacman "music" 🤣🤣🤣
Atari 2600 is my favorite console! Thank You Mike for this stream!
Mike has a bad back from the year(s) of carrying Cinemassacre (at least during the AVGN movie hiatus)
that atari 2600 logo in red used to creep me out as a child
Mike!!! Glad your back looks like your on when I am sleeping after working on third shift. I'll watch this in its entirety at work later

Greg, I'm your boss. You're fired for watching UA-cam videos during work time.
Mike, how do you stream/record your Atari 2600 so flawlessly?
modded console
Mike have you heard of star tropics? if so i would love to see a stream of it soon keep up the good work :)
Very nice been wanting to see someone stream atari 2600 for a long time and proud to say i still got my old woody model with loads of game carts 🍒🍒🤗👍
The Atari Pac Man did help me with the Arcade. The better I get with the Atari version, the better I get playing the arcade.
@3:04:41 Quality question right there! lol
@3:33:54 Mike is a PLEEEB! lol
If you took a shot every time someone asked "Is this Cyberpunk 2077" during this stream, I bet you'd be dead within 30 minutes.
Why do white people always say this?
I'd rather play the 2600 than that broken piece of garbage.
can somebody share timestamp for Custer's Revenge?
hey Mike, have you heard of a game called Safety First? it's on Switch and PC and it's pretty hilarious. Also to clean the connectors on my cartridges i use a qtip with contact cleaner fluid, works pretty good.
Mike I been a fan when I was watching james video including u
I don't know if Mike will read this or even care, but you are an OG, man. Been a fan for years, and now that you'll stream full time I think it'd be cool to maybe try and bring up the whole art angle to it every once in a while, see if it work (always loved your style, packed a strong 70s underground comics feel to it). If there's something I see common in a lot of the big streamers that don't focus on one game only is they try to have a lot of variety, and you 100% have the energy and personality to become a household streamer if you polished the presentation a bit and spiced it up. This is only my 2 cents as a supporter, hoping for the best. Merry Christmas, Mf!
That was a nice one.
NINTENDO: Do you remember when we were the video consoles all people wanted to have?
SEGA: I do.
ATARI: I have no memory.
Actually what's pretty funny is in the 3rd Hyperdimension Neptunia game the main bad guy is called Tari. It's mad because it was mostly forgotten about and replaced by the newer, more powerful "characters". It's clever and funny when you find it out.
Nintendo's still making consoles actually. And Sega, sort of (there was the Genesis Mini in 2019, and the Genesis never went away in Brazil). Atari consoles are extremely dead though. Also, right now there's a company that wants to make a new Intellivision console.
the question marks are the search areas
I didn't even know Pitfall had a sequel on The 2600
It's too bad I missed out on this stream...I don't want to brag too much (but obviously I'm about to...), but I consider myself a real expert on the Atari 2600. I know stuff about it, and what not.
I just purchased/received a copy of Galagon (Galaga) for the 2600 from the atariage website. I posted a review of the game...You can check it out (it's only about 90 seconds long); if you don't want to waste 90 seconds of your life I'll save you the hassle...The game is fucking amazing! The developer responsible, Champ Games, has ported several classic arcade games to the console, and their work is 2nd to none...They are in a class of their own. They are releasing a physical version of their port of Robotron 2084 (titled Robot Wars) for the 2600 early 2021, I believe. Check out the gameplay videos...it has to be seen to be believed. I've seen the videos, and I still can't believe how good it looks. Champ Games. Check 'em out!
From now on I'm going to think of goombas every time I eat chicken nuggets. Thanks for that.
Why did you leave James Rolfe
This version of Pac-Man is pretty shitty, but I still kind of like it. It was what I had as a kid.
The person who asked about programming for the Atari 2600...there are a lot of books, guides, manuals and webpages out there that can help you learn how to program for the console...Just a heads up, though...I don't know the 1st thing about programming, but I've heard the 2600 is notoriously difficult to program for. The learning curve is extreme.
31:53 Lol. I'm sure Mario has already eaten Peach. But.....hey if leftovers are your thing, I won't judge.
Morning boss mike and everyone 😊
Hey Mike I think pac man is a ball of light. That may be the actual lore. I think the characters may be spirits or something 👍
The fluid for the one up card is 99 IPA that's all
brown bricks and elmo no more, mike leaving cinemassacre :(
only slobwave left.
damn, i miss the live stream...
725 1:30:36 no ducking in the 80s
I have a lazy left eye and I can tell you it doesnt help while playing Kaboom, just gives you a headache after focusing for a long time 😂
2:00:30 No. No, I don't. What crazy do you live in? lol
Mike really needs to try eat the combo more often.
What?
Still doesn’t make sense.
Do you think you'll do a 7800 live stream sometime? That system is pretty underrated.
yes
@@mikematei A Colecovision stream would be interesting as well. Just make sure you have a Super Action Controller for certain games like Front Line or Rocky. Lol.
@@kellinwinslow1988 If he plays War Games I'll donate $15.
@@chid255 That was a great game. Also War Room was fun and Fortune Builder might be the first Sim City type game made. It really did have some good games.
Can you please do SuperMan for PS1 next?
Someone released the 2000 Prototype and it looks almost finished.
Just asking but I would like to see you do a video on it.
do you smoke weeds for de back painus.
Mike, you should play Atari 2600 homebrews. If you can, check out Pac-Man 8K (or even Pac-Man 4K), they're souped up, much more accurate versions of that game.
EDIT: It's not the version that's simply a hack of Ms. Packman.
Hey Mike, play "Maldita Castilla EX".
