@@oneseeker2 the point wasn’t that shes 21 you dunce. It’s that no CHILD should have to pick up the pieces of a mess that a PARENT has made. Going to war is awful too, but just because someone is in a full body cast- doesn’t mean someone else’s broken arm doesn’t hurt. Instead of playing the “who has it worse” competition how about have sympathy for others?

My first career was as a CPS investigator and all of this sounds so familiar to me. One reason I chose that career path is because it was the life I grew up in. Judges have a lot of power...more than CPS. I would strongly recommend you being present at all of your moms court hearings with Family court because s judge can order placement with you and there's nothing CPS can do about it. If you're present, Express that you're there and want the baby placed with you many judges will order it simply to keep kids out of foster care and with relatives and there's nothing your mom can do about it.

Foster care social worker here: yes! Exactly what she said! Your brother should absolutely be placed with you or your aunt or other family through an ICPC (interstate compact). Stay involved (to whatever extent is healthy for you and your family), show up to court, get to know his foster parents, etc. he’s very fortunate to have you for a big sister!

Yes agreed your grandmother has tried to help her daughter for many years. At 79 years old it is more than time for your mom to support herself. She owes restitution for all the expenses your family has incurred. I know that won't happen and you all want her to stay sober. So sad that she has neglected you three as children but now this baby being born addicted.
I hope your brother 🙏 grows up healthy and well adjusted as possible and is reunited with you and aunt. I am so in awe of your maturity in this difficult situation. They say your strength is being tested but you need a break from this emotional rollercoaster. Life ihs too short but undertand you wanting the best for your siblings and you

The fact that she doesn't have custody of both of her older children and the child was born addicted not having her rights terminated at birth is so sad. What a difficult situation. I'm so sorry you are going through this. It's not fair how fast you had to grow up and everything you do to help preserve the childhood of your siblings is amazing. You are changing the history of your family and helping end this generational struggle. The fact that you are also still thinking about travel and keep perspective on the fact that you have to have your own life is also so powerful and mature.

Maryland has the CASA program. Find out who has been appointed to your brother's case. They are volunteer advocates whose job is to be the expert on the children of the children's case. Sibling visits are usually a must along with parental visits. The judges rely on the CASA's perspective a lot. Usually they are more helpful than case managers because they have a smaller caseload.

I work with CPS and for out of state placement, it is a process called ICPC. This process takes 3-6months. Also I’m not sure how your state is, but my state can change the child’s plan from reunification to adoption at 6 months if the biological parents have not made any progress. You do have every right to visit your brother and I highly encourage you to reach out to the social worker to get in contact with the foster parents. The CPS I work for, we encourage the foster family and the biological family to have a relationship. I would also encourage you to contact the social worker and have a relationship with her to keep getting updates.

Maryland ranks toward the bottom of states in terms of achieving permanency for foster care in a timely manner. Wish they would change plan at 6 months (like Florida and some other states). Best case scenario would have been for aunt to file for custody before he was fully in foster care. Now, that he is in foster care, they will have to do the ICPC but doubt they would move him to another state if mom is being offered services. Sounds like mom is too far into addiction to do anything in the best interest of any of her kids. Too bad child welfare is still offering services instead of going to TPR based on previous history, current use, and lack of desire for rehab or sober living. Hope grandma has formal custody of the two sisters or mom will make trouble when they try to evict her.

You are such an incredible big sister! 💖 From one big sister to another, I just wanted to say you are probably the biggest influence in their lives at this point. I know this is so so difficult especially as they start getting older and have more questions or begin to enter their own rebellious years as teenagers. Keep doing what you are doing, always be honest and real with your sisters and never stop showing your siblings unconditional love and support. Some day they will be your dearest and closest friends💜

As a daughter of a mother who has dealt with drug addiction for years and always seems to put drugs over her kids i see a lot of myself and my story in you. I have always tried so hard to protect my younger brother so he didn’t have to go through the stuff i did and the older i got the harder it got. I hope the situation with your little brother improves sooner rather than later. You and Logan are amazing young parents to your three little angels. Is it possible to have your mother put under a conseratorship? In my opinion, addicts don't change so drastic measures must be taken. It breaks my heart that your baby brother was born addicted to whatever drugs your mother used.

Someone has to be a conservator to make that happen, and it’s to maintain someone’s money while they’re unable to. A judge won’t grant conservatorship for an addict unless they’re a multimillionaire.

you and your family really did the best you could and are still trying to do what's best for your brother. people in addiction sadly don't think about others but themselves and who they depend on... addiction is a big circle of being co dependant on who they usually use with. I hope you or one of your family members in able to get your brother for the long term. I hope your mom can come to a realization of what she's lost, and will continue to loose to make her hit that I'm ready for help stage. it's hard to watch a family member go thru addiction and want to offer what help you can, and give them resources but ultimately it's their choice of if they want to get clean and actually use the resources available and change their own life. you've been doing a great job taking care of yourself, your kids and siblings you're allowed to have...you're strong, and when times are hard just remember you have come so far and bettered your life and are doing what you can do better those around you and keep them safe!

I agree with you I think it’s really frustrating That someone who has been addicted most of their life and hasn’t sobered up for any other reason getting the chance to have their child again even though the chances of them relapsing are greater than anything it’s really really frustrating. My birth mom was a drug addict and she made the choice to give me up for adoption because they were homeless and they weren’t gonna be able to take care of me but the rest of my sibling stayed in her hair and it wasn’t a CPS thing it was just her personal choice to put me up for adoption but having seen how my siblings grew up I wish they would’ve taken them away from her as well and gone to my parents.
I wish I could hug you right now you’re going to get through this you have so much support behind you we love you ❤️

I fostered for years in the state of Mississippi. In our state they have sibling visits for children in foster care. also maybe now they will start an ICPC for out of state relatives. We went into Foster care because my youngest sister's story sounds much like your mother's. Fight for your brother. I understand the difference between hope and reality. We waited to help my sister's children and her oldest is now 23 and is now putting her baby who is 2 through the same stuff she went through. It is crazy but necessary. Your family is in our prayers.

You are such an amazing sister. Venice is beyond lucky despite the circumstances to have the stable support you and Logan provide. Please please fight for your little brother. Coming from a foster parent in the CA, who also adopted 3 drug dependent newborns, they give bio parents too many chances! At least put here the more they show up to visits the longer it is drawn out. (it varies county to county/ state by state) But in my case they gave both bio parents 6 months before even considering termination of rights or alternative placement. Please talk to a lawyer, ask for visits, go to court hearings do it all!! Don’t go unseen! As a sister I’m so sorry you have to continue to fight your mothers battles.

I am a foster adoptive mother and have fostered many and adopted 5. There are good homes out there. It is sad to me that they are pushing the court process and not just letting him go with your Aunt. What an awful situation. I’m so sorry that you and your family are going through this. I can’t imagine trying to deal with all of this while also having three children of your own and living in a different state. I think you are doing the best you can with the cards you have been dealt and just continue to be involved and show that you want to be a part of his life and hopefully the judge will eventually grant you or your aunt (or another family member custody). It is unfortunate that he needs to be in foster care instead of with family for seemingly no reason but I guess all you can do in this situation is just continue to fight for him and have hope that the family that is caring for him is giving him the care and love he needs for now. This may just be a bump in the road for a more permanent solution in the future. Take this time to figure out the logistics of adding in another child and just be ready and waiting for him to come home. I can’t imagine dealing with all of this at 21. You have so much maturity and strength and are truly such a good mom and sister. Make sure you are taking time for yourself and keeping your own mental health in check because all of this can be very overwhelming. Don’t be afraid to seek counseling if that is what you need. Remember that you cannot be there for others if you don’t take care of your own needs too. Wishing you the best always and I hope your little brother is able to be reunited with your family soon. ❤️

Keep your head up! I’m sure the unknowns are so scary & hard ❤️ Reach out to his caseworker and/or the county he’s with to arrange regular photos to be sent, video calls, and hopefully some in-person visits! I would bet he is with a wonderful and loving family, who will take great care of him until he can be reunited with your Aunt. I am a foster parent of a baby. Maybe it will comfort you to know I love her as much as I do my biological kids. I also recognize that she has family who loves her just as much, and I do as much as I can to support that relationship! All the other foster parents I know personally are the same way. Keep advocating and doing what you’re doing! The system can be so scary and frustrating, but I’ll be praying everything works out for you guys! ❤️❤️
