    It always fascinates me how cultures react differently to street photography. Japan seems a lot more welcoming to it than others. It genuinely looked like a lot of fun out there. I can tell by the look on your face! Thanks for capturing and documenting moments like these. This is why I love to shoot.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому +3

      Yeah, I'd say so! But even in Japan and in Tokyo you get different reactions. In this case it was mostly young people, having a few drinks, so they were in a jolly mood and appreciate a wild UA-camr appearing out of nowhere haha. In more businessy areas, during the day time, the reaction would be different. :)

    Łukasz, I appreciate your videos and I enjoy them. I watch you for a long time now. I like your channel because it is not only about photography, but journeys through places you live eg. Tokyo or other parts of Japan. I like your light personal style and your approach to creative photography. You seem to have the ability to play with that and perfectly fit the environment to achieve later goals. I really would like to find more about your thoughts about Japan, culture, and people which seems to be much different from the region that you come from (eg. a trip to Kyoto). I regret that you do not have hundreds of thousands of views and subscribers, but I hope someday you all get what you deserve creating that wonderful yt channel :). Greeting from Poland!

    That group at 16:00 ish knew how to pose. Good to see that on video. Though your main focus is street shooting, it's good to see the interaction and the ambience of it all on video - kudos to Axel! Thanks for these vids! Also regarding the 24/28mm thing - I use a 28mm lens on an a7r that punches in and becomes 42mm when I switch to apsc mode(and still have 18mp whilst there). It's a very comfortable and handy set up for street and urban that allows me to wander around without worrying about composition/lenses. To my eyes, 28/42 looks very natural. Almost like it's not a photo. It's just a snapshop in time.

    Great content. Thanks Lucas. Based on your high dynamic range shooting style (night city scape), have you looked into iso invariance for the Nikon cameras. Alyn Wallace does a nice explaination on his astrophotography channel. Basically it comes down to shooting at the lowest noise iso to preserve dynamic range and then boost exposure in post, which will protect your highlights with the same noise as if you shot at a high iso. For the Z6 it has dual iso of 100 and 800, with 800 being cleaner than 400 etc. It's camera sensor specific. I have tested it out on my z7 and sure enough, I get 11 stops of dynamic range at iso 400 the low settingbfor z7, and only 8 bits of dynamic range at iso 3200. If I frame the shot and grab focus at iso 3200, then drop iso to 400 to grab the shot, boosting the image 3 stops in post I get exactly the same sensor noise but much cleaner highlights. It does not make a difference with low dynamic range shots.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому +1

      I have not delved into this topic in great detail, but a have noticed in the first few weeks of shooting that the sensor is dual ISO. Since I regularly underexpose and push my images in post (to preserve highlights) after I got my Z6II I quickly learned to avoid doing this between 400 and 800 ISO. Either I'm aiming to shoot at min ISO (100) or just go over 800. Of course, this is hard to manage consistently in practice and sometimes the ISO ends up at 640 and I push it anyway. I don't use my Z7II at night nearly as much as my Z6II so I cannot speak for it's behavior in this regard. If I'm using the Z7II, it's usually on a tripod and at base ISO (64). I do find the dual ISO concept a bit annoying overall. I miss the D4 sensor with excellent performance at any ISO (at least I never noticed any dual ISO effects).

    Super intertesting video once again in a wonderful place, thank you Alex & Lukasz for taking us with you there! I appreciate that it is 35 minutes long, wow :). Am i right, that in your light trail shots at the beginning of the video (e.g. 3:25) you did several photos, layered them in PS and removed the cars, as you explained in one of your previous videos? Many great shots of you in this video.
    The athmosphere in Ueno is very superb, would love to go there shooting. I think a diffusion-filter like the cinebloom 20% (or tiffen black pro mist) would do magic an all these interesting retro-style signs, lights & lamps, would increase the cyberpunk atmosphere in the outcome of the photos. I heared of that "joker" attacking ppl in shinjuku, very sad, hope you are fine.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much! For all these light trail shots there exactly as shot, except for color adjustments. I did not have to do any compositing. The cars just disappear because they are dark, and only the lights are bright enough to be exposed in the photo. And good idea about filters. It's something I haven't played with very much.
      Yes, it is a tragedy, the second time this year something like this happens. It's terrible. But yes, luckily I and everyone I know is fine. I hope the victims all pull through as well, and not just those people physically injured, but also those traumatized by the experience. The videos look frightening.

It would be good if you can do a video in the future on how your video guy is filming you: video settings, focus setting and method, WB setting, picture profile, color grading, etc. I assume this entire video was shot on a gimbal? Anyway, if you can find a 3rd person sometime, you can do a BTS of the filming of your street photography session. I would definitely watch. Thanks.

    • @EYExplore

      Thanks!! I never talk about white balance because I just shoot in raw and do it all in post. I manually adjust the white balance in a way that suits my taste for each particular scene. Sometimes it's warmer, sometimes it's cooler. All of the photos in this video are edited. For the shots with the intense sodium-vapor (is it mercury-vapor?) I went with a look that was true to the warmth of the scene in reality. I didn't try to fight but going for a cooler edit. :)

      @EYExplore  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you!! This might be the main reason I got a mirrorless after years of using a DSLR: the stabilization. The camera does an amazing job of stabilizing the scene. I can easily get perfectly sharp images even down to 1/8, consistently, as slow as 1/2 or even 1sec with a 30-50% hit ratio (meaning some images are blurry, but I just shoot of 3-4 in a row and one is bound to be perfect). Of course, I also try to hold it as steady as possible, hold my breath, etc. but it's really the camera doing 90% of the work to stabilize these slow shutter shots. :)

    I had to watch this video twice and some other review to get the lens :~) tried to use your link but first got anti virus alert and then on amazon the lens is for better price. So maybe good idea to add amazon link here ? You still happy with the lens for night street photography. I spend 1 day researching lenses and could not find anything as promising, would definitely not spend $300 or $400 on Nikon lens with plastic mount ! Nikon lost me as at least lens customer. Love Japan but did not had the camera with me last time and it was too cold :)

      Ah yeah, maybe I should add Amazon links not the Viltrox referral links. These days I use a Nikon 26mm f/2.8 and 40mm f/2. Nikon glass is better. The mount doesn't take the pictures lol. But the Viltrox is cheaper, so it's totally worth it. :)

      @airbnbphotography 11 місяців тому +1

      @EYExplore in which way better? I am sure it has less distortions and other lens problems. But for street photography who searches for those. The are more compact but such a high f-stop :-( I am used to 1.4 f 50mm on d750

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  11 місяців тому

      @@airbnbphotography Yeah the Nikon 26mm has almost no distortion. But 1.3 less stops of aperture, so it's trade off. I don't only do street photography, so I do care about the distortion. The Viltrox 24 has particularly annoying distortion because it's composite, both pincushion and barrel. Impossible to fix in post.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому

      Yeah, it's a bit wide on full frame, but on an APSC sensor camera, 16mm would be about the same 24mm on full frame, so it depends on the camera! :)

      @EYExplore  2 роки тому

      @@nurulazhar8462 I see! Well, Viltrox does make a series of lenses for APS-C sensor cameras, like the a6400. I would get the 23mm, which is great for street/urban photography! I'm sure Sony make similar lenses as well, but I am not so familiar with them. :)

      Sorry, that's just too much hassle to put before and afters. To me, the before is not relevant. I want to show my art. The edited photo is my art. The unedited photos is like raw materials for cake. They are not for consumption. I understand why it's good to show the raw photos for educational purposes but I'd rather not do it for every single photo. And we do have some editing videos on the channel. See below:

    It's a great lens, but I am not a fan of 24mm focal length. I prefer 28mm way more, or 20mm, if I want to go wide. I wish Nikon had some special Z lenses with an aperture ring.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому +2

      I agree overall, a 28mm would be preferable. But 24mm is so close to 28mm and the 24mp sensor in the Z6II offers enough resolution that I can simply crop a bit and have the same FOV as a 28mm. I also miss using my badass Nikon 28 f/1.4E. It's the best 28mm lens I've ever used! But it just doesn't feel right on the FTZ adapter. The AF feels slower than on F-mount or a native Z-mount lens. Plus with the adapter it's huge! I hope Nikon releases a spiritual successor to that lens for Z-mount. I would get it in a heartbeat!

      @@EYExplore I agree, there needs to be a fast, native 28mm for Z. Right now I use an old Kiron 28mm f/2 which works well enough for zone focusing after all on my Z6 (its very sharp).
