    Thanks your letting us tag along! Do you ever do what is basically the opposite of this? Early mornings in residential neighbourhoods, bakeries opening up, shop owners watering the front, moms riding bikes with one kid in front and two at the back, the lone salaryman heading to work. I always felt those times had a special energy to them, like the feeling of potential, especially with a カツ ロ-ル in one hand and coffee in the other.

    The shot at 10:07 is amazing. I feel you have a knack for this type of shot and it's something most of us struggle with. I find I'm often not attentive enough or focused enough to catch small moments like this, the kind of emotive small details. I guess it comes down to things you've mentioned before about photography being more a practice of mindfulness than technology or technique. These continue to be my favourite videos on the internet. Keep it up guys!

      @@EYExplore Thanks for the reply! I do have another question but maybe it's something better suited for discussion in a separate video. I always wondered about finding consistency and cohesion when switching between focal lengths and cameras. I think many of us use a single camera and a single focal length in street photography as a way to 'force' a cohesion in our portfolio but when I see what you're doing, exploring so many focal lengths and cameras to great effect, it makes me realise that maybe what I consider my 'style' isn't that at all but just an arbitrary restriction placed on myself. I guess to cut the rambling, the question is, how do you explore so many focal lengths and maintain such a cohesive style? And what do you think it is that defines your style?

    Happy to see you do a video with a compact prime, especially the 40mm. I have been curious about this lens due to its compact size. Since I travel perpetually and live out of my luggage, the weight and space savings would be great over my current lenses, 35 mm f1.8 and 24-70mm f4. With that said, I wouldn't want to give those lenses up, so I would just be adding more weight with this one. Fun walking around with you. Thanks for taking us along.

    I can definitely relate to the EVF delay, especially if the environment is really fast paced. I've read in a forum though that if you know that you most likely will take another photo in the next few minutes, it might be more battery saving to just keep the camera on. I think it had something to do with the booting of the camera also needing to draw more power than being on standby. Take it with a grain of salt though.
    Loved the shots you managed to produce in this video by the way! I live in a more medieval type of city in Germany which contrasts Tokyo by a lot, so while I get really inspired by every video you put out, I always find myself thinking hard about how to emulate your style into my photos sometimes hahaha.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому +1

      Glad you loved the photos! Thank you! I think the important takeaways are not the style, but the mindfulness approach, seeing and accepting what is around, and exploring it without judgement. This leads us to achieve authentic work (I hope)! :)
      As for the EVF issue, I do keep the camera on. This issue is not the camera powering up. There is a delay when the EVF lights up when your eye (or anything) is detected by the proximity sensor above the EVF. I guess I could put tape over it or something so it always stays on.

    • @SamuelHeinrich
      @SamuelHeinrich 2 роки тому +1

    Video suggestion: 40mm shoot out between the Richo GRx 3 and the Nikon 40mm. (speed, bokeh, color and strength and weakness.) Also, in Golden Gai, I kept thinking I want to go in there with a 85 1.4 or a 70-200 2.8 to really isolate details in those cramped spaces. And use the bokeh/blurred lights in the background to become a light texture to define the item in focus. Seems like a must go place next time I am there.

    Wow. This video and the way your video guy has shot it really conveys the feeling of being on the street there. Fantastic. There's just so much to see there. I feel like you could spend an hour just exploring one block. Those narrow alleyways where you found your favourite / seedy shot and the area around Golden Gai are fantastic. But, yeah, a 35 or 28mm might have been preferential for those narrower streets. However, I'm definitely looking forward to exploring general street photography with this lens. Without a compact Nifty Fifty, the 40 f/2 seems to be an ideal substitute for those Nikonians who still valued standard focal length over today's norm of using UWA. I'm thinking about getting one too, even I have the 50 f/1.2 S.

    • @EYExplore

    Quality vid and images. Love the old tea shop - timeless. Sign reflection pic works well. Good focus tip. Does the Nikon cam have an AF focus range limit setting in the menu (like Fuji)? That would be one way of speeding AF while limiting depth. Learned new technical term, “streety type image”😁. Ever get lost in those narrow alleys? What is the minumum shutter speed you use to capture animated neon signs without getting a blur or partial sign, if that makes sense? So, in Lightroom you don’t turn on auto lens correction (at least for this lens)?

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much!! As far I know it does not have a way to limit focus distance with an in-body setting. However, some telephoto lenses do come with a switch that limits focus to long distances only. I would say for neon signs, it really depends on the duration of the neon animation cycle. For non-neon signs, like LED signs, you need to match the electricity grid rate, which is 50hz in Tokyo, so 1/50 shutter speed. You are correct, I don't use the lens correction for this lens at all, neither distortion nor vignetting. However, I do for most other lenses (but only for shots where it matters). And I don't get lost anymore. I used to all the time. I kinda miss those days. :)

    As far as the EVF delay goes, you’ll need to get in the habit of pressing the “ok” button on the camera as you bring it up to your eye. That wakes the EVF up instantly. It’s difficult to start doing. At least that’s how you do it with Canon.

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, it doesn't work on Z. The EVF only turns on when the proximity sensor detects something in front of it. Pressing okay or the shutter button does wake up the camera itself so it can start metering, so I do that already. I hope the Z9 fixes this issue. :)

      Well, the 50 and the 40 are not going to be that much different, other than the size/weight. The 24-70 is a great lens. I use it mainly a workhorse when I need the absolute best quality coupled with versatility and speed. But I tend not to use it for my personal work as it's just not as fun to use. To me, the 40mm has much more fun factor. I don't own a 50mm 1.8 so I cannot compare it directly to that lens, but I simply prefer the 40mm focal length to 50mm. The FOV is a bit more flexible, in my opinion. :)

    How can they make a plastic mount in 2022? Even every cheap 3rd party manufacture are using metal, they are even moving towards better build, making some weather resistant lenses for reasonable price. Nikon is not in a good position lately, they should give more

    • @EYExplore
      @EYExplore  2 роки тому

      Yeah, it's a little surprising, but I guess to save cost. For example, primes from Viltrox, a third-part supplier, have metal mounts and bodies, but their lenses cost about 500 USD, while the Nikon 40mm is under 300. I think it's a great idea to make such a fantastic lens affordable, seeing as they already have solid primes that are priced higher (e.g. the 35mm and 50mm f/1.8). The plastic mount really doesn't mean much honestly. It seems solid enough. It's not like I'm going to be dangling the camera by holding onto the this tiny lens. And the lens itself is so light that there does not seem to be much stress on the mount. We'll see how well it lasts with time, though.
