- It's the sixth batch of Balvenie’s much-loved Tun 1509 series! This batch is a no age statement vatting of 21 casks from distillery, with a mixture of refill sherry butts, bourbon barrels and DoubleWood refill sherry butts. The Speysider was married in Tun 1509 for three months before bottling at 50.4% ABV. If you are so inclined, the presentation tube even comes with a breakdown of the 21 casks used to create the whisky.
Always enjoying the reviews gentlemen, your service to whisky folks looking to choose high-end bottles they won't regret is must-watch imo. Cheers!
great review
After some of your Kavalan Solist reviews, I recently received samples of their Fino and amontillado, and man I’m blown away. I can’t appreciate you enough for introducing those to me. Tun 1509 is a great malt, used to own badge 4 but for 450$ in California I should be crazy not to go with Kavalan for 50$ more. My local shop has both amontillado and manzanilla. I will have hard time deciding which one to pick?
That's one I sadly can't help with as I've just had samples of the fino and haven't had the amontillado (just haven't found a deal on it). That said I assume the fino is much much cheaper there as it is elsewhere, so if you're debating it, I'd assume get the fino for 100 or so less?
@@topshelfdustin3060 They do have Fino but it’s only 50$ cheaper. I found Amontillado way more complex and flavorful than Fino honestly. I probably go with Manzanilla at the end since it’s ABV is like 3% higher than Amontillado and I love salty elements in whisky.
@@Houman7 ah, fino was like 100-150 less here when they were around. Manzanilla is pretty darn good, that I can state.
Dustin: "This comes of as quite nice" - a good start for a whisky this price. I'm very fond of Balvenie but the prices suck. Play this video back to yourselves and you would never believe you are talking about a whisky that costs this kind of money. It sounds like a disappointing $200 bottle. The 15 ex-bourbon could be bought for £70 a bottle; C'mon! Appreciate the review as always. WT
Yeah we weren't impressed what so ever. It's the kinda bottle a lawyer keeps in his office bar because it's expensive and smooth. Now mind you the 15 ex-bourbon runs 350 now...
Why’d you get a new ceiling fan? 🤨😜
