Boys this is an excellent video. Well communicated and using a similar whisky as a point of comparison IMO is one of the most useful review methods. Keep up the good work.
Nice comparison! I was stupid enough to pass on a Tun 1401 batch 7 which was 420$ and now it’s gone. One thing to note is that Single malts are going downhill in terms of quality over time so I’m not surprised we get to same conclusion when next Balvenie tun series comes out once we compare it to 1509.
@@topshelfwhisky I have or had bottles of batch 3, 6, and 9 and I sampled batch 5 on a Scotland trip. Amazing all around but for me batch 3 is simple perfection.
Nice review guys! Looks like I'm not buying the 1509 batch 7 for $458. I really like the 15 Single barrel and it sounds like we're more than 90% there compared to the 1509. An NO2 turbo burst might be adding a dash of a cask strength bourbon bomb, perhaps an independent Highland Park.
Damn, that 1401 sounds amazing! I've had a sample of the 1509, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Would a bottle of the 1401 be right up there, or top, when it comes to a really special occasion? Cheers guys, great vid.
Tun1401 is a special occasion whisky for me, I've been nursing this bottle for nearly two years. It's my favorite Balvenie. I prefer it to the 25 Single Barrel & 30 year.... Cheers AL
That grape medicine sherry note... definitely recall a note like that from the Deanston 30. Kinda the same territory here? Also, if rings are truly important, Porsche beats Lamborghini so bad it's hard to watch. ;)
I've told Dustin that something in that Deanston 30 reminds me of old Balvenie, for sure. That Deanston 30 is a rare bottle and a cool packaging, I call it elevator action. If you remember that video game... Porsche is a wonderful machine but if I ever have the means, I'm going Lambo all the way. Yellow with flames coming out the tailpipe. ;)
Balvenie is such a weird one for me. Not impressed at all with the couple of lower end releases I've tried (even for the price), but I generally hear good things about some of their high end stuff. Hard for me to justify spending the money to try these though. I'd rather get something I know I'll love when we start talking $300...

ps. 1401 batch 5 for the win. Still one of my favourite quality for money buys ever.
Man, I want more 1401. I've had samples of batch 3 and 6 and they were incredible.
Nice comparison!

Man thats a great price. I've made that mistake a time or two myself. We live and learn.
Awesome review! 1401 is like nothing I have ever tasted!
It really is!
I missed out on the 1401 series, those were before my Scotch journey. The 1509 Batch 5 is what I imagine the 25yr Doublewood would taste like
Me too, and I paid for it ;)
1401 batch 3 is my favorite. I never got into the 1509 releases. Only tasted a couple. Nice comparison.
I sampled batch 3 and 6... man those were excellent. You try all nine?

1401 Batch 3 was my fav also.

That's a high price. I value 1509's in the low $300's. For that money you have better options.

I think the deanston is more fruity but yes similar.

Ever try the 15 single barrel? Sherry or bourbon?
Top Shelf Whisky I haven’t. I think this is logical step with balvenie haha
