  • Taking the wife out on her first ride in the turbo 460 Ford. Kind of a long video with not a lot of action but some trubo tuning talk.
    Waiting on some 80lb per hour injectors and a boost controller before I can let her eat.
    Tuning with Stinger Performance PiMPx Megasquirt 3 ECU
    Engine built by Scotty the Mad Porter at parklandautomac...

    You mentioned something about Scotty saying it was good up to so many lbs. of boost. Is this engine the same build they have as the crate EFI...just as you got it from Parkland? Is the low boost only because of bottom end.
    Also, if you don’t mind me asking, did you do all of the piping? How much total do you have wrapped up in it now, minus the engine build?
    I may consider going this route instead of the 502 crate EFI. Scotty says I’m 6months out whichever way I go.
    I like your fun-haver and am looking forward to having a built motor in mine! Keep up the good work. Hope the new injectors do you right!

    • @johnvirgilsgarage
      @johnvirgilsgarage  3 роки тому +2

      Yes I believe it's the same as the crate EFI he now sells. They boost limitation is due to the ring gap. Scotty increased the ring gap for increased cylinder pressure / heat but not as far as he would like for a turbo application. He believes the ring gap is good up to 10psi, probably more but he wants me to stay on the safe side of things.
      Yes I did all of the fabrication for both hot side and cold side. I would estimate I have around $1,500 in parts but that includes some wear items I replaced while I was in there.
      Thanks for the support and I stoked to get the 80lb injectors in. They arrived yesterday 😁.

    • @johnvirgilsgarage
      @johnvirgilsgarage  3 роки тому +2

      I'm sure Scotty could do the EFI package and easily make it boost ready. I would have gone that route if I had it to do over again. Bit more ring gap and good to go. Guys are running the stock head bolts and pistons with way more boost than I run.

      I absolutely love the 460 engines. Even in stock EFI form they are good pullers. A turbo makes them amazing. I guess ultimately it comes down to budget and what you want to use it for. A simple turbo efi 460 with a stand alone ecu is an absolute blast to drive and would whoop on most mildly modified diesels

      Man, I’m planning on doing a blow through setup. I have older stuff than you. I too hope I don’t regret skipping the EFI. I have lots of questions going into this project but yours gives me motivation. It’s my high school truck… been waiting on me for 12 years and I finally have the shop, money, and time to get it done. That's awesome man and I definitely considered the C6 as well but ultimately wanted to keep the overdrive. Also I love the super low 1st gear on the ZF. I plan on trying the boost up as far as I can to see how much I can put through this ZF trans. I expect my clutch to be the first thing to go but since it breaks the tires loose so easily, I think that is saving parts from breaking.
      I shared my UA-cam channel with a few FB groups but not too many. I would love to get this channel over 1k subs, definitely a goal of mine. My goal for the channel is to show people how awesome these 460's are with some boost, how easily they make power for cheap and to document the build. I hope to do a boosted OBS bronco next 🙂

      I also saw the video where you said if you got enough of a following you’d like to do a bronco. That would be killer, man. Let’s make it happen!
