Don’t hate, soon it will be the internal combustion guys vs EV guys. The k24 is a killer engine but you know you’re stirring up a hornets nest saying it casually in the comments section of a big block build with nitrous. Everybody has their preferences, don’t create reasons to exclude/hate. Be stoked that there are people motivated to continue pushing this awesome hobby further everyday. Do Not bottom your head studs in the block like these guys did with a impact tool. It states in the ARP instructions to put them in hand tight only. With heat expansion you can damage your block or stud threads.
On the engines I build I measure the thread depth then ensure that my studs go in far enough and aren’t being held up by a tight thread burr.
I personally leave them a 1/4 loose and have had no issues with that in 30 plus years of building the specific engines I build.

I say we go watch every Ford video on you tube. And then comment how much better chevys are. That'll show them. After that we will swap sisters and Copenhagen. Oh man it's gonna be a epic Christmas. I mean my 572 big block Chevy makes 3000hp on 93 octane and has all stock internals. I'd like to see a ford do that. Man I can wait till our family reunion cuz. I've seen large cfm carbs going for 3-900 bucks and most don't really understand tuning them and don't want to risk spending 5 hours changing jets, adjusting timing and then blowing it up because it's wrong. With things like megasquirt you can run efi off of basically any engine from 4 to 8 cylinders for about 3-400 bucks and have someone data log and tune remotely.

Figure a 1000+ cfm carb, single plain intake and distributor will set you back 1000-1200 or so. I think thats the mark to hit, when an out of the box system (intake, TB, ECU, dist, wiring and fuel pump, etc) can match or beat that, then yeah carbs are done for good.

The Trick Flow 325 Power Port heads are very nice pieces, but for this size of displacement, I think they are a bit on the small side. This combo with some P-51 heads will pull over 800 horses on motor alone, and very likely be over 1100 on the bottle.
And with the new SR-71 heads, I think power would be substantially more still.

Hey Mike and Pat, did either of you know that the foot in foot pounds never changes? It should be foot pounds because of how torque is measured. At the time it was first used, which was possibly in the late 1800, the dominant beast of burden was the horse. They had a contraption that allowed an animal or engine to lift a weight. At one end of a thick rod was another one rod that was a foot in length. This was elevated from the ground. At the end of that was possibly a chain that would be attached to the weight. Do either of you know what a yoke is for an animal? It's what goes around the neck of the animal. It would be a different arrangement for an engine or an electric motor. That horizontal bar possibly had two or more bearing, which could be placed in what could be a framing for a swing. When that horse was attached to those straps and started moving forward, it would twist the horizontal tube and will additionally twist the one foot rod at the other end of it. This would allow the weight to come off the ground. That weight will determine how much twist or torque that animal had. How would they be doing that with an engine? Most of them had standard transmissions. They wouldn't use it, though. They would use the clutch instead. What would it be attached to? A flange that would act as the friction disk of the clutch. That flange would be bolted to the other flange, which would be at one end of the horizontal tube, which would have tge one foot rod at the other end of it, with the chain attached to it for the weight. That's how they, at that time, determine how much torque or twist that engine had. As you exceedingly well know, people use a dynamometer to test for horsepower and torque. Don't ask me, don't know that answer. Perhaps you could ask Google that question. It would possibly have an answer for that question. That's the reason why it should be called foot pounds of torque instead of pounds feet. No, that foot will never change.

750 h.p. with a single carb, pump gas and a streetable cam and cylinder heads - a number race engines made not so many years ago. 1000 h.p. still just as streetable, still on pump gas puts it amongst some strong street engines - no matter how common the magazines make it sound, how many do you actually see?
More cylinder head, more camshaft, more carburetor and 1300 to 1400 (on the bottle) isn't out of the question.
Now THAT'S one wicked street package.

This particular build - I say it's reliable - you could drive a car with this engine in it every day without a breakdown, in fact rollers don't have failure issues when they don't sit - the roller axles stay lubricated - and they would be the weak point, that's as reliable as any high output engine gets. You don't get stock engine reliability once you start making modifications.
If setting valve lash occasionally is what you're getting at, both flat tappet and roller solids go a lot more miles without adjustment than most people realize.
I ran flat tappet solids in my street/weekend race cars (at that time it was one car for everything) for about two decades and it was unusual for one to need lash adjustment more than once every 10,000 miles even with seriously wild cams.
As engine man for a race team (NASCAR truck series) engine maintenance was my responsibility, part of that was monitoring the valvetrain, watching for failure (solid rollers). We'd run 2-1/2 hrs, 500 race miles - wide open throttle with the exception of yellow flags, with engine speeds between 7800 and 8100rpm - and never had any lifter failures. Valvetrain inspection was checking valve lash, if it varied it was the first sign of one of several possible failures. The only time lash varied more than a couple thousandths the issue was valve stretch, titanium valves have a finite service life before they'll stretch then fail in tension. You probably know what dropping a valve does to an engine.
Valve springs on this particular engine - and any engine that runs high rpm - would be high maintenance, and going to a hydraulic roller would make that worse. Hydraulic roller lifters are heavier that solids so the springs need to be stiffer to run the same rpm as solids.
These kind of builds require inspection which is maintenance just the same - nothing with this kind of output is maintenance free.
The maintenance would be the same or worse depending on how often it's wound up high.
