    Hit the Chassis Dyno today with the ole Turbo 460 91 F250. Made big power but settled on a safe 605hp and 737tq...AT THE WHEELS!!! That's on the 92 octane pump gas tune for street driving, very happy!! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🤘🤘
    Big thanks to Apex Performance and Fabrication out of Marysville WA. Awesome customer service and knowledge. Michael is the best and I highly recommend him for tuning in the PNW.

    Very impressive knocking out an easy 600whp over an over with mid 700s tq.
    I’ve never messed with Holley efi. Mostly carb bbf nitrous stuff but I went with stinger pimpXshift on my 95 f150 sbf. Why does everyone hate it is much? It seems pretty user friendly to me and my limited efi experience. It can run a flex fuel sensor with dual maps and tuner studio and mega log viewer seem pretty good imo.

      Thabks, I'm very happy with it and I will be keeping this ECU on the truck. I'd like to play with Holley more just to branch out but still enjoy MS stuff.
      I think the Megasquirt hate comes from all the diy builds that never worked correctly. Nice thing about the Stinger Setups, is that they build them correctly so its a very consistent quality product. The software has also come a long way in the last few years so people who are not up to date with MS may not know how far it's come.

      Definitely picked up below torque peak and above 4400 RPM by taking 2 degrees out. And yes I figured out why it wouldn't rev out, I had my rev limiter set too low and also had the soft limiter starting at 5k rpm. I raised it up a bit and already feels better up top. Definitely ripping!

    Are you still running the stock heads and cam? The hp that you are getting at 13 psi of boost would equate to something in the neighborhood of 350hp NA so was curious. I think this would be a ton of fun in an F-600. Really wish my Dad hadn't scrapped his 1969 F-350 with the factory ordered aftermarket installed 4wd. It had a 12' flatbed and is an absolute unicorn. I was calculating in some driveline loss in my initial estimate based on 14.7 psi of boost doubling your horsepower I was thinking the 13psi along with the water/meth injection should put your around 700hp at the crank give or take a bit, might have been a bit low on my initial now that I think about it. Not knocking the build or anything just curious. I bet the addition of an intercooler would put you into the 700's. Although it's not like 600hp and 750tq isn't plenty. I made my own fuel rails after the stock ones maxed out around 500hp. Two 340lph pumps in a stock upgrade 38 gallon behind the axle tank. ECU is a Stinger Performance pimpxs running MS3. That's pretty much all that's needed to make an Obs EFI 460 make big power.

    First time viewer. Is this a camera trick where it looks like steering is on right side then back on left where it would be? Love your ingenuity! I love my 97 F350 460 and enjoy modifying and fabricating things to build it up the way I want it, but not in this category of what you’re doing! Always looking to learn from others. Thanks

      @@johnvirgilsgarage I figured as much with the camera. Like I mentioned on first comment, I always appreciate someone just looking at what you have and what you think will work to figure things out. When I’m adding things to my truck and there’s no prefabricated parts, then I just make it work the way I think it can. When I go to Home Depot or Lowe’s and look at things that are purposed for something particular, I think,, how could I use that to fabricate something I’m working on 😂. I once used window channel to rebuild the drain channel for a trunk on a 63 Galaxie 🧐. Keep on trucking ( or Jeeping ) brother.

    Big block + boost= 1 badass torque monster. Depending on cam springs and intake i would see about getting more out of the rpm to see if it picks up anything. also from what ive read about e85 is its alot more forgiving with adding timing on a boosted application plus its guranteed more power than premium pump gas. i plan on going e85 on my big block foxbody!

      On a 460 Ford, your rod bearings are 3.25 and the mains are 3.5, the surface is moving to fast to hold oil over about 5200 in stock crank config. You can go to Chev big block bearing size's but it weakins the crank. The engine was designed to turn 5200 because of NASCAR's gear rule @ talladega & daytona, I think that yielded 240mph

    G'day from Australia, love the vids. I'm doing an 81 f250 Bullnose, Ex Australian Army ( Original Patina). I have a new Ford standard build crate 460 EFI, (never been in a vehicle). With some bottom end upgrades I'd like to Turbo it. Is there an online partlist that you know of? Im having a hard time finding much information here in Aus.Thanks mate 👍

      Nothing online that I know of. I've been meaning to put together a list but if you can weld, I made my turbo manifolds by using two drivers side ones. On the passenger side it is facing down and forward. I cut the outlet flange off and welded on an elbow to put the turbo where the stock battery would do. Battery can be mounted in the bed or under bed on frame rail. From there you need turbo, cold side pipe, intercooler, bigger fuel pumps, injectors, wastegates, blow off valve, etc. I'll try to make a video soon covering a parts list. 🤙

      I know the 460 is underrated. Not in drag racing but general hot rodding. ive heard these big blocks arent even as bad on the gas when you do a little research and actually tune them. Get the timing right and get them actually burning the gas rather than just wasting it.

      @@augustusappling139 My dad worked at a garage back in the early 70's and the local sheriff station brought in their squad cars for maintenance there. They were running some kind of Dodge with the 440 in it and dad said that at factory timing they were doggy as hell so he messed around with the timing and ended up advancing it several degrees and it really woke the engine up. Apparently dad thought a street test was necessary and got it up to circa 140mph on the local strip of interstate. He wasn't allowed to test drive any cars after that but all the troopers wanted him to tune their cars.

    Stock internals too ? Also would you be able to shed any light on the compression ratio for the motor?

    • @johnvirgilsgarage
      @johnvirgilsgarage  Рік тому +1

      Stock crank, H beam rods, and forged pistons with loads of ring gap. Static compression ratio is at 9.5:1. Since the Dyno, I have upgraded fuel pumps to support 1400hp as the old pump only supported 800hp and I turned it up past that. It's making over 800hp now and is running awesome! 🤙

    Is that a bone stock 460 that you're making that type of horse power from or did you put heavier parts in the engine to have it sustain that kind of power?

    • @johnvirgilsgarage
      @johnvirgilsgarage  Рік тому +3

      This one has ported heads, a small cam, forged pistons and rods. Since the Dyno I have turned it up a bit more and it's making over 800hp.
      It had stock type pistons and rods in it before. I broke two pistons from lack of ring gap. I would have no worries of running a stock 460 this hard as long as the tune was right and the ring gap was gapped properly. Mine only broke the first time around because I didn't gap the rings enough.

      Must be a damn good looking truck 🤙 I used a billet aluminum bracket off eBay which is specifically made to work on the EFI heads with the Saginaw pump. I bought a pump and lines for a 1995ish E350 with a 460 and all the lines worked for that vehicle on my truck. It's one of my favorite upgrades. Steers with 1 finger and makes no noise. Also tightened up my steering response.

    How much total timing?

    • @johnvirgilsgarage
      @johnvirgilsgarage  Рік тому +1

      About 19 degrees at ~ 13 psi but that ramps in from about 15 degrees at 3200 rpm. At 100 kpa (no boost) timing is 29-34 degrees from 3200 to 5300 rpm. It's a 3D timing map so kinda hard to explain on paper. It made more power in the mid range by pulling timing. I believe this is mostly due running 92 octane. I'll eventually go E85 and put some more timing in it.
