The Warriors is a 2005 beat 'em up video game based on the 1979 film of the same name (itself based on Sol Yurick's 1965 novel), developed by Rockstar Toronto and published by Rockstar Games. It was released in October 2005 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and February 2007 for the PlayStation Portable; the PSP port was developed by Rockstar Leeds. The game was also ported to the PlayStation 3 in May 2013 and PlayStation 4 in July 2016, via the PlayStation Network. Set in the gritty 1970s New York City, the story follows the eponymous street gang, who get framed for the murder of a respected gang leader and must return to their home turf in Coney Island, while being hunted by rival gangs and the police; the game also expands on the film's plot, with the first half covering events that took place in the months leading up to the film.
The gameplay revolves around large scale brawling in 3D environments interspersed with other activities such as chase sequences. The game features songs from the film's soundtrack; however, as of 2016, some of them have been removed from the PS3 and PS4 versions, including "I Love Livin' in the City" and "In the City", due to licensing restrictions. Several cast members from the film returned to voice their characters in the game. Folllowing its release, The Warriors received very positive reviews. - Ігри
Seeing this, manhunt and bully makes you realize just how much the Rockstar we had 15 years ago just doesn't exist anymore.
The *R today is busy counting shark cards sales and squeezing dry the cash cow called GTA online and release a remaster of a remaster for the ps5 and Xbox X
Well the R* of today still made an evergreen classic called Rdr2
They got the money, with that dies the creative ambition.

This is one of if not the best movie tie-in movie games ever. Now someone make a game about Streets of fire please.
Hell yeah Streets of Fire is awesome.
This game had the benefit of being released 30 years after the movie.
Problem with tie-in games is developers have narrowed budgets (IP licencing for a hip new movie will slash available funds for development), a strict deadline (the movie comes out on X day and you need to push it out by then) and no time to watch the movie and appreciate movie and flesh it out properly (to figure out how to make it fun and faithful).
The advantages of a 30-year old cult movie is the licencing fees were probably not that expensive. You also have 30 years to appreciate and rewatch the film and understand the themes and what makes a good level/scene. Also there was no hurried release day as... Yeah 30 years old
I mean, "it was made by Rockstar" kind of invalidates the whole thing since they're still counting the money they made on GTA 3 to GTA:SA so none of these were really going to be hurdles for them.
"There's nothin' wrong with goin' nowhere, baby. But we should be goin' nowhere fast"
Came here to comment this myself. To this day, it’s the only movie tie in game that I’ve ever thought was perfectly done.
Is it a tie-in if they're not released in the same decade?
If you gave the hobos money they'd tell you jokes, if you continued to give them money they'd join your gang & fight in a hilariously drunken manner.
getting the hobos to headbutt enemies was hilarious
Yes good times baby, good times.
The chilling quiet 70s night vibe in this game is unbeatable..
You missed the fact that when you beat all the flashback missions you unlock the arcade machine that lets you play a 2d beat em up of the warriors. Easily one of the best unlockables ever
100 percent it on the hardest difficulty and you get a new game plus where the warriors are reskinned as baseball furies and vice versa. Doing the 7 ft triple baseball bat wielding Cleon fight is hilarious
@@marleyshaw446 had no idea about that, can't believe i missed that
The Warriors is like that Star Wars of gang movies... now can you DIG IT ?
check out the arcade version of Double Dragon 1 for context
@@XxLew its really cool the warriors start off with bats every mission but even then the difficulty is insanely hard.
This is the only instance I can think of where the movie, book, and game of the same story have all been classics. Most don't pull 2 of those off.

Shit ur lucky if u pull 1 off

No modern game has been able to mimic a gritty, hand to hand combat heavy experience like the warriors. It's unfortunate
The combat is literally identical to the Yakuza series my friend.

I was 16 at the time, too and had only recently started working. I had a choice between The Warriors or Path of Neo. The Rockstar logo on the box determined my purchase. Not only was a great game but it also introduced me to a great movie
@@gameoverman7825 same here, dude. I found the DVD shortly after and became a huge fan. I love it in all its cheesy glory.
When you get all the gangs unlocked and all the maps, this is easily the most fun game ever, i remember creating my personal gangs and just messing around with the mechanics, so good.
That train level tho!. Fuck.
Back in the day I was shocked to see that much people on screen
Not comparable to pikmin?
On the ps2 nonetheless
Even compared to a Dynasty Warriors game on the PS2?

Could Gman make a joke about this comment or she's spared because of being fan of the movie?
My mom loved the movie also, but i wasn't allowed to play rated M games so she never saw me playing it lol. Had to play co-op at a friends house
Yes the same thing happened with my dad. Big fan of this film and he was amazed by everything in this game. The voice acting of the cast, the music, the atmosphere, the gameplay, everything. Hey everyone, I’m Moise Morancy, a director and producer. Check out the reimagined Warriors prequel trailer on my page. Enjoy!
I just considered the cops 'the most powerful gang' in the game..
In the mode where you can be any gang the cops are actually an option to play as and me and my sister used to play it all the time and one of us would pick the cops and we would always win because the cops were just to OP
In the sequel they added a gang more powerful than the cops - The Lawyers !
We murder those police with their own nightsticks
Yup
They are IRL too
Rockstar was busy making all these cool games back then, nowadays they're just milking GTA5 like there's no tomorrow.
Fuck em. I wish them and most triple A devs would go bust and sell of their IPs
You forgot Red Dead 2.
How can u guys be so dumb ? Let me teach u basic economy/marketing : wich rockstar title sold the most copies ??? : GTA, How much a game like old gta, bully manhunt etccc costs and how long the dev time is : Less than a million and less that 3 years. How much a game like GTA or RDR costs nowadays : 300 millions dollars averag and 8 to 10 years of developpement. Can we afford a niche title like manhunt or bully that can cause the whole company to collape if we invest 300 millions dollars in a game that won't bring even the half of it ? :No . Where to find money to continue developping revolutionnary titles like RDR 2 or GTA V : We milk the big licenses that bring alot of money and are safe cause they are well known and liked by everyone. Hope this little lesson helped to grow ur brain's size a little larger
So if u wanna know rockstar games don't do games like manhunt or bully anymore the answer is simple : we like generic shit like gta or read dead so we get generic sht like gta or red dead bc companies can't afford to be ballsy anymore cause games costs too much
@@swervin8336 that’s just not true at all. They have SO much money. For example bully would NOT cost 300 million dollars. Dumb take. Rockstar has their money and are just want to milk for profits and get kids to buy their shark cards. They don’t have to be doing this.
I remember playing this without having a memory card, so I would leave my PS2 on so I wouldn’t loose progress. I would wake up a few hours later to try to complete the game. Such great memories with this game

You chose a great thing to be a fan of. I'm going to find the book now. The movie and the game are two of my all time favorites. I went and got a ps4 in August with the sole purpose of getting this game. Number one reason in 2020 to get a ps4 was to get a game from 2005. Lol
@@shaungarrett5291 Awesome! I didn't know it was available on ps4, I'm gonna have to get it. Be warned if you gonna read the book, it's not like the movie at all. In fact the book can get pretty dark. It doesn't have that comic book appeal that the movie and does. Instead the book is a more realistic look at gang life in 1960s New York. On the ps5, would be a total masterpiece
That train yard mission is one of my all-time favorites there is so much chaos going on in that area it's such a blast
Despite the tagging being a pain in the ass mechanic, I actually really enjoy the train tagging mission and it's one of those I replayed the most in the past. Its maze like navigation, amount of cops and rival gangsters roaming around in such an industrial map really creates that 'far away from home' atmosphere the Warriors is good at, at its best in this mission.
Same! That's why I love Mission 6: Writer's Block even though I failed at it a million times. I love the tagging race at the beginning, the chase sequence at rooftops and last but not the lease, the destruction part that really feels rewarding and satisfying. I also love Mission 8: Encore. Really enjoyed Chatterbox there.
The chatterbox missions are some of the best developed missions in the whole game!! That chase sequence on the rooftops was so iconic and summarized the whole vibe of the warriors they were trying to sell.
@@legzzzzzI liked this one too but I had to cheat with the spray paints

Something you left out: Originally Manhunt WAS supposed to be The Warriors, all the way back in '98, but since Rockstar wasn't really a powerhouse yet, they couldn't get the rights, did their own thing instead, and we all know the rest. Ha ha ha ha! It's funny because it's insanely true.
My father showed me this movie at a young age, and it certainly made an impression on me.
It's one of my favourite movies of all time and when I was a kid during the PS2 era I saw this on the shelf and knew I had to pick it up and loved every second of it.
Honestly, the voice acting in the game is so much better than the acting in the movie. It really is incredible. It's a new way to experience the film, and a great one at that.
feel like the cops are fine, making them extremely hard really drives home that they're a serious threat but not only that, it forces you to actually FIGHT and learn to know what you're doing when you're up against them
and i thought the spraypainting missions were great except the ones where you're up against the moonrunners at the train station
That mission was A pain got the game a few months ago again on the PS4 and I forgot how annoying that mission was
The arena one was the worst for me but there was a strat I discovered that made it really easy.
Dude..
That moonrunners train mission was actually my favourite!!
Maybe because i actually love the spray mechanics, but the amount of fights in that mission is golden!
That is easy just beat up the moonrunners that snitch on you or if you cant catch up with them just hide, and for the police science they most likely alone just beat them up.
Ah yes, that "violent" movie that's actually very tame. It was originally rated 18+ in my country and even banned for some time, now it's rated 12+.

I love how I disagree with every "negative". I had no problem with painting and actually like it, having to prioritize guys with dangerous melees and avoid cops untill I was good enought to take 'em out had a good feeling like being rewarded for playing it smart and those boss fights were elevated by what they meant, to finally best the gang leaders.
So, come o think about it, those mechanics were well supported by what they mean: leave your mark, master the braw, show other gangs who's boss.
Then by the end of the game the Warriors were good, real good...
Same, bruh. I disagree to it considering the game has a hard difficulty and also it gives you freedom and some challenges like in Mission 13: All City, all of 'em will disturb you while painting. Damn. Love the gameplays and it makes you create your style on how to beat them, etc.
Right now I'm struggling with the game. I keep getting arrested by the cops
I agree with you, I’ve never found any of them to be negatives I think it makes the game better

@Coolerthan Afrieza I don't even need it to be a remake, I just want an accessible version of the real Manhunt 2.
@Coolerthan Afrieza Believe me, I've already looked into that. I think that's a torrented version of the game that may or may not have a virus. Since the uncensored version is nowhere legally, I would like Rockstar to re-release it on their launcher or have it somewhere, just anywhere.

For clothes you could choose which tops and bottoms you want from the different npcs throughout the game. etc etc. it’s unlikely but I always had this idea
Thecexact same thing i was saying it would be good yea it old n what not but if rockstar does rockstar stuff it will be great maybe bigger the gta 5
🐐
Unlikely, wouldnt be a good investment, how do they squeeze in the microtransactions?
@@littleboy129 There are several characters in the game with Adidas clothing if they wanted to they could add more or charge for more shirts, clothes, or accessories but that shouldn’t be necessary. Not every remaster has micro transactions and they shouldn’t need them
Just online rumble mode alone would be amazing !
Im so glad you made this video. Me and my cousin played this hella as a kid. He just got it for ps4 and we spent the whole day playing it. Hitting every tag and doing every bonus objective to complete the game 100% We even beat Armies of the night. Really wish Rockstar would remaster it. It would by far be on the top leaderboard. Great video!
Thank god I've discovered your channel, it's been like a day and a half and my steam wishlist has doubled with tons of indie retro games. Thank you man, thank you.
This should be a thing. Retro movie tie ins, cult properties that deserves to be remade faithfully, but its interactive and expands the lore with added content.
Remade
I vote for a John Carpenter's Escape From... series game, thanks.

God the boppers scene where he kicked and did a spin was too funny back in the day 😂
Aw this game was fun lol
Most dynamic fighting game i played on ps2 hands down, plus the whole vibe was so cool and gritty. Baffles me they havent made a new version of this game!
Joe Walsh's song "in the city" really went well with this game.
When they used it in Rick and Morty, it immediately brought me back to the warriors
This game was ABSOLUTELY massive in the UK it has a huge cult following over here movie and game +( Rockstar Leeds ) my hometown had a big part in the development-so naturally there was alot of press Relesed stuff like big graffiti murals . Spray can speciel editions in HMV . Tshirts hoodies speciel guest signings etc.
It truly truly was a fantastic game with great backstory (included) in the game -not in the movie .
Another decent game was getting up -. But the story was flawed ... both well in need of reboots
70’s New York City must be a completely different world
I haven't cringed harder than when I saw someone had grafitti'd all over my place's capital city with the pseudonym 'Trane'.
Only good thing to ever come out of Leeds lmao
@@davidwilson6577 yeah lol. I did reaily enjoy the game but many copy cat kids after
What the Ecko game ?
I think I played this game like 20 times over.
Same
The Boppers intro with the spin kick always cracks me up 😂
let's burst some move
I wrote this comment for a different video, listing some ones I was hoping to see reviewed, but you already have a review for this game! Soooooo stoked! This game truly is a masterpiece.
Anyhow, here's my comment from the suffering (or maybe the Thing?) with my list of all the old classic, sometimes obscure/rare games i would love to see on your show:
You really review all of these old games I loved so much! If love to see some reviews of Conker's Bad Fur Day (absolute masterpiece), Chrono Trigger, Ehrgiez (idk about my spelling lol), Way of the Samurai, Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast (or the later consoles like GameCube or Xbox) Morrowind, Mass Effect (such a good storyline; that first game was SO god damned good), Zombies Ate My Neighbors (one of the greatest games of all time), Siphon Filter ("ANTON GERR-DOO-!"), Doom Troopers (this game was sooooooo sick! Metal as FUCK), Red Faction (just the first one lol), Castle Crashers, Alien Hominid (Newgrounds! Remember that shit?!?😂 I cant recall his name, but the artist who created Alien Hominid & Castle Crashers is just incredible. I love that style sooo much!), any and all Dragon Ball games (including the titles only released in Japan), Team Buddies (omg I LOVED this game SO. FUCKING. MUCH!), Worms: Armageddon, Hogs of War (similar to the Worms games), Tobal No. 1 (2?), XIII (this was a neat cell shaded FPS that had alot of soul & potential; it didn't quite cut it, but man oh man, it could've been so fucking rad... oh well. Maybe someone will do it justice some day?), Sunset Riders, the Metal Slug games (*chef's kiss*), Super Mario RPG (what a beautiful game that was), Bonanza Bros. (Metal Gear's forefather...??),
Winback (is that the right name? It was a 3PS for the N64 that was like Siphon Filter, MGS, & Virtua Cop melded together; it was excellent, & had a really fun multiplayer deathmatch mode), the Bomberman titles (especially for the Sega Genesis & N64. Multiplayer modes were perfection. And riding the Louies was such a treat!) Mid-Evil (I dont remember how they spelled it lol. Sir Dan was super dope, though!), Road Rash, Skitchin' (Road Rash, but on Roller Blades😂 it's bloody genius), Crypt Killer (cheesy House of the Dead style fun, hilarity, & lots of jump scares!), The Warriors (based off of the movie; this game was MAGIC. I miss it so much...), The Chronicles of Riddick (this was actually dope movie & game, even if it was endlessly cheesey & unintentionally hilarious lol), & there was this game for Dreamcast that was like Super Smash Bros. meets Dragon Ball Z & the Marvel comics universe... but i can't remember what the hell it's called...!
it was really- REALLY- fucking cool though...
& how about that game for the PS1 where you play as Bruce Willis in some futuristic setting kind of like Judge Dredd meets Diehard?
🔥💥💣😎💣💥 🔥It was raaaaaaaaad. & Another one that was similar, except you're a spider that escapes from a lab...?!🕷🕸🛢🔫💊🔐⛓💾💉🏹🗃🗄📈📊📋🔮🔩🛡⚗🕷🕸
...😂🤣
Welp! These are some games I played & loved as a child, & upon returning to them, they were perhaps only better! Hope to see a few catch the spotlight on your show!
Remember being obsessed with the film and game with my friend in 5th grade. We'd stay up all night playing it, so great. Some levels were so brutal.
Damn bro, that's an epic intro.
While playing in co-op mode you can actually go into the camera options in the pause menu and change it so that the camera stays in spilt mode the whole time, it’s much better than the default blend camera. You can also command your gang to do those double take downs when you have an enemy grappled from behind (or grab them from the front and tap R1/Rb to spin them) if you lock onto them before you grab them then let go of the lock on once they’re grappled and select wreck’em all.
Now, this is the best review of yours, feller. :D I used to play it with my cousin in co-op mode (split screen). In the first time, he loved this game so much that he saw in his dream that night me and him actually particating in the graffiti competition (in Soho, turf of Hi-Hats). :D Just like what we do in the real gaming session, he was watching my back while I was busy with the tag.
Thank you for such an awesome nostalgia.
What's also really cool about this game is it takes place on how the warriors became the warriors and theirs that little arcade game at the end. Like i said this game is DETAILED very impressively all the shit talking when your fighting wall smashing blood stains on the concrete im playing this game now XD.
There needs to be a remastered graphics of this game. It's practically River City Ransom if it was 3D, but better.
So glad you highlighted this game. So few people even knew it existed. I played it back in the day after it went on sale in stores and I loved it.
More people need to give this game a play. Even with it's now outdated graphics it still offers so much fun and charm.
that flying body throw move is crazy haha I definitely was playing the game wrong as a kid.
The closest I'll get to a video game adaptation of Homer's Odyssey
Mmmmmm...odyssey
Yeah cause the movie is based off of Homer's Odyssey.
"Good news, Boppers: The big alert has been called off. It turns out that the early reports were wrong, all wrong. Now for that group out there that had such a hard time getting home, sorry about that. I guess the only thing we can do is play you a song."

Well played Sir 😏
I remember playing the entirety of this game with my older brother on split-screen back in the day, he would regularly take part in most of the fighting while I was too busy stealing radios from nearby cars. Good times...
Moon runners right next to the van courtland rangers, made me giggle! I see what you did there 😀👍🏻
The blackout mission was god tier.
Not knowing you had to have your teammates stay hidden, they kept getting arrested and made it a nightmare
Rumble mode security guards on girls
The blackout and scouts honor are the best missions

One of my all-time favorite games. I would love to get a sequel, maybe take place in the early 80's. Btw you can actually fight the Furies instead of run, in that first encounter. There's bats and baseballs laying on the field you can peg them with and I used to run around and dive bomb them, until I got them down to a number I could fight. Gotta have Flash too
Would absolutely love a remaster of this. I was obsessed when this came out.
To this day it’s in my top 5. Replay after replay when I was 12.
One of my favourite games and films. The game fits in so well with the film's world.
How he forgot to mention scooping up and booming an enemy by holding circle? That was the most satisfying move in that game
This game brings me back to 8th grade co-opting with friends. And the Rumble mode my dood. Soooo much fun. One of my favorite games from the mid 2000’s.
Ah i remember this game the nostalgics right there
I don't know how many times I finished this game. Criminally underappreciated
5:07 bro hit the meanest Michael Jackson spin 😭
Thank you so much for covering my childhood and just in general favorite movie game.
