It’s been 15 years since I’ve owned a solid state amp. It jumps out at me how infinitely more useful this is than those Origin Series Amps you reviewed recently. This MG is a nice sounding practice amp and great for what it is. 👍🏽
Holy crap this small amp has that huge Marshall amp sound even for sold state. Marshall is the Best!
Damn consumenr
@@Broccoli75 XD
Hell yeah my parents are getting me this for my birthday sooooo excited
its a beauty kid you’ll love it
You got it yet buddy? Interested to know how you find it?
Mine is coming in 2 days, I’m so pumped
@@SWFFOR hell yeah its so good man its a great practice amp
@@benharper4942 hey man yeah i have it and its great and i love that u can do any genre on this thing from clean ballads to some good old rock and metal
I bought the 50 watt version for the studio and it is a MONSTER in tone and sound. And HEY... the decorating in your video is kickass. Gotta set that mood!
Just picked this up today. Thanks for the video review it really helped me in my decision.
Perfect / fair review of the Marshall MG30FX… you did it Justice with the opening jam session 👍🏻
Shane always brags on Bandits & Mustangs but Marshall knows how to get the "Marshall" sound, without using tubes, better than anyone. Bandits, for example, do sound fairly tube-like, they just don't sound enough Marshall-like and Marshall is THE sound of Rock and Blues Rock. They just know how to VOICE an amp. It should be crunchy & bright and punchy & tight with a hint of clean signal mixed in. That's the Marshall sound
Eye opening review - thanks man! I’ve been a fan of your work for a bit - you’re super-professional & you focus on the important aspects. Stay cool!
Considering one of these and some of the bigger ones. This looks to be a great amp for the money. No cheesy sounds. Close back cabinets are generally matched to the speaker the open back speaker may have a way bigger magnet to prevent the speaker from unloading and you can even add a piece of insulation Staples to the back and it will probably make it damp in smoother like folded horn bass speakers on a pa. Celestion speakers will always be it.
just ordered this amp.. the weekend gonna be a long wait..
Do you like it? Sound great?
☠️
Dude give us an answer
@@holycrusader3130 nah.. a year later i wouldn't recommend it to anyone.. way to brittle of a sound. the only way I can get a decent tone out of that amp is by using the amp sim in my gt100 board... I love marshall but this amp is a big miss
@@LesPeterGuitarJam I disagree man I have had this amp for few years now you can get a great sound whether you are going clean toned or overdrive or ligh distortion, you don’t need pedals all u really need is a wah or some cool affects and you are good, though I do find it is better for blues and jazz than Slipknot and Metallica and cannibal corpse and whitechapel
That sounds great Shane on both the strat an LP.
Was at a gig watching a band play and was really impressed by the sound the guitarist was getting....little Marshall combo which I assumed was a DSL but when I got closer saw it was, much to my surprise, a Marshall MG30! Sounded great!
Sounds really great, & for a 10"" speaker, maybe because of closed back cab, like it bro, great job Shane!!!!!
thank you so much man appreciate the review. now im buying one that amp
Just bought this Marshall amp after watching this video, I absolutely LOVE it!! Brilliant Marshall tones and looks great! Thank you 😀👍🏻
I own the previous mg50cfx. I bought a tubesound pedal and the difference is so huge!!!
The most complete review of UA-cam !
Great review man! Glad to see Marshall embracing the solid state amp market and developing products that are more affordable and sound better perhaps than previous efforts.Would be great if it came with a foot switch. 🤙🏻🎸
Craig Fussell the foot pedal u can get for these is a great add on...
It does come with a foot switch. I own one
Great demo! I would love to here the Marshall DSL40C vs MG50FX GOLD with humbucker on the bridge pickup.
Those amps have come a long wat from when i started out 👌🏻
Props for the Demons poster on the wall. Excellent :)
From one Shane to another great job!!👍
Great review, displayed amp features well.
I have a Marshall Valve Stat from 2000, needed a practice amp because I hate my fender Mustang. Bought this amp today and did a search and found your review. Glad I bought it and glad I found you a Left handed guitar player. I'm playing left handed for 49 years and I have been through the prejudice of right handed players. You will get a like and Subscribe.
Sounds great thank you for your time and help
Cool vid Shane as always!!
Great vid bud. I bought one of these for about 150 quid. It's an excellent combo. Also it does sound really overpowered for 30 watt. Definitely good value for money.
Do you think it’s loud enough for a rock trio (bass , drums, guitar) in a small pub?
great review thanks , because i want to buy one but knew nothing about it
That sounds killer with a bit of delay on! Might have to look a bit more seriously at this when I need a new amp 😀
I recommend it for blues and jazz and classic 70’s rock not so much metal and grindcore
I have this amp (2018 Marshall MG30FX MG GOLD Series) and it is awesome! Beautiful clean sound, great overdrive crunch. My only wish is if I could combine effects (can only play one at a time). I use a Les Paul twin humbuckers, Gibson Epiphone Sheraton II and Gibson Epiphone acoustic model PR5E. All guitars sound sweet through this amp. I also plug my Android phone in and play backing tracks with it and play along. Works great.
I am looking to buy do you think I should?
yes
Its a very good amp. How about the footswitch? Is it included with the amp?
I use a les paul tribute 2016t 50s and it's fantastic play whith this amplifier
How to have clean sound
I'd be really curious to see how the MG50 compares to the DSL40CR. Fantastic review, the 30 sounds phenomenal here!
Clifton J. I have the 50, with Slash amp settings and its awesome
Wayne Bridger what are these settings?
Two different beasts … DSL40 is tubes… so it will sound slightly different. Both will sound like Marshall’s but will likely “play” different … it really depends on what you prefer. If it’s a choice, I would lean towards the DSL40, but that’s just me.
I've had both. There is absolutely NO comparison. MG30 doesn't even come close, returned it right away. The older Marshall solid state practice amps sound much closer to the real thing. or you know, get a boss katana.
I have the smaller brother of this amp, the mg15 with reverb, which was silver back then when I bought it, theres a lot of fuss about it on the Internet but in my opinion it just sounds so much better than any of the similar amps from peavey blackstar etc, to me those amps effects and clean sounds as well just sound a bit too saturated, not quite as natural as these marshalls, the only weakpoint I'd say it has is that the low gain sound really isn't that good, it's pretty hard to recreate a good overdriven sound but if you turn if up to like 2/3 it sounds absolutely amazing, and even turning it up to 3/4 can be good it really starts to chug, the clean sounds are great, I suggest to keep your trebles higher any channel, it really seems to add a bit to the tone in my opinion, the midrange bass can be kept at middle, maybe the bass deceased a bit of you sit in front of your amp
Man i just ordered one, cant wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I'm going in for one of these, too!
Great demo. I only do small pubs now no time to scroll app. Love it thank you
I have this version and the previous version and both sound amazing (yes I collect Marshall amps). The one thing I’ve yet to figure out, is what that “tuner” bit does above the tap delay / store function. Probably has to do with the foot switch and somehow it works that way as a tuner, but the manual is lacking (my only real criticism of Marshall as a whole). Other than that, if you are a serious guitar player, and can’t get a good tone out of these amps, then it’s either your pickups or your playing... the amp itself hits the sweet spots on both clean and overdriven with little difficulty at all. Great vid BTW... perfectly done.
The tuner function does work with the foot switch. I have the four channel foot switch (I believe they may have a two channel as well) and it is handy. It is a decent practice amp, but I do not like that you can only have one of the knob effects at a time (delay, chorus, flanger, phaser). It'd be nice to have some delay + one of the other three. I've also noticed that the effect will add some extra harshness that I have to try and EQ out, but that's really nitpicky for a practice amp. On a side note, I found that I get better tones out of it if I crank the master volume knob to max and just use the regular volume knob to control output. Doing it the other way makes it sound more digital and thin.
Is the FX style digital reverb as good as the old style spring reverb? I've got an old MG15 which has a great reverb on it.
Is this amp good to play metal? Does it has a good distortion?
Giosuke 6667 I have it, it does sound good, but by itself, not quite heavy enough for metal. Look at he Marshall dsl range, they are made to be for modern metal, and are also cheap
@@alistairhomewood7344 yeah I kindda gave up of the MG series. I'm thinking on buying the Boss Katana. It is pretty cheap and great to play metal
Just ordered this amp. I'm psyched for it. I've had a squier 10g for the longest so this will be a great upgrade.
how is it? im lookin at this too!
How is it going for you? I currently have a 10g and cannot stand the sound of it anymore. Definitely considering buying this amp
@@iconiccraze5499 man I'm loving it. It's a way better upgrade for my house. I recommend it if you want good sound on a budget.
I just ordered the MG101 GFX on the strength of this demo and the crunch and OD1 channel . I like stuff like Gunsn roses,Aerosmith etc
I wonder if the circuitry on this is the same as my older mc30cfx. the front panel controls are identical. I liked the cfx, especially since I paid less than $200 for it new, but, all my guitars sounded the same through it. I built a new cab for it and gave it to my brother in law. I now have a katana 2x12.
I’ve owned this amp a year, it’s fantastic.
can i plug there microphone?? Please respond:)
Thank you, Great review!
Haven't used a Tube Amp Since 2009 thats when i was introduced to the Marshall MG 100 Watt Series Amps simply incredible Amps
Jimi Guitar Same here, they also take pedals really well.
I agree...I made a bunch of recordings with the mg100 and they sound great. Sold the head to buy a tube combo but am going to bring a mg50 combo back into my studio, miss the mg!
The footswitch is about $90 extra, and if your careful you can shoehorn a 12" driver into one of these.
Have you done this?
Nice review. This seems like the best combo amp I've heard. The clean, crunch, and distortion settings sound high quality. Most of the time, the crunch tones on combo amps are horrible. The effects actually sound like they're coming from pedals too.
Great tones what a simple - sweet amp - cool
One thing I know, I want this guitar, it's a beatifull danelectro
Excellent review. Well Done
Thanks for watching
The marshall mg30fx gold is a great little amp for the cheap price, it really surprised me when I set it up and got a good sound from it, I played around a lot before I got a good kind of crunchy sound on od1 our crunch channel, I think its a very good amp for the price,
@@gimpyjwilliams if you decrease the distortion from your quitar a little bit it sounds very well...
Great video thanks sounds great
Just coming back to watch this video ... I was thinking the Marshall badge with the gold plate controls looks cool on stage... and what I heard was tone that is at least as good as most of your other vids. From a 10inch speaker in a solid state combo. With Marshall written on the front with gold plate controls. If they could do one of these for a similar price to the Katana 50 they would kill the amp market.
this sounds sooo good ! i think i would get me a Jazzmaster and save money to buy this !
I have the previous one, MG30CFX, and for the sale I got it on I really do like it, along with the addition of the footswitch with 4 switches to open up access on the fly to 4 presets, tuner, etc...
I kinda wish that I had gotten the 50watt with an effects loop, amd am now debating another amp woth that feature. Any suggestions on decent amps with effects loop that would be a step up from this, other than the MG50GFX or the Katana 100watt model?
I have a 2009 MG30FX. Special Edition in red cabinet. When I bought it for my son in 2009 we didn't know how to set it up. It had all wet effects going on badly, so we thought it was defective and left it in the cellar. I just took it out and turned it on. I figured it out, there's buttons u need to hold in to activate etc. I'm so stoked I'm gonna read the pdf. The amp is in pristine condition.
Seems great. Thanks
Can you make a comparison video between all of your new Marshalls MG DSL Origin?
I have bought the same, but 15 watt - really nice sound and easy use
Awesome little amp with big power got mine 2 weeks ago
can you guess the name of the orange guitar played here on UA-cam? I don't get to understand or read it it looks like a Gibson Les Paul but it is not written, Gibson
I'm planning to get the lower wattage version of these without the effects. I plan to use it as a multi-effects platform(if that's a thing). I've been searching around and I don't get where all the hate is coming from. I've checked a lot of other amps and I think the sound of Marshall is familiar to everyone. Orange amps tend to get too crunch I guess almost same as Vox where it's too trebly. Marshall on the other hand seems to favor the low end which I kinda like. Anyone knows why people seem to hate the MG series?
Thanks. Great review. I had a reverb 12 growing up and miss the marshall tone. Might have to invest in one of these. They seem to have improved them a lot. Any chance you could do a back to back with a dsl and maybe a bandit or katana?
traineecanuck I have the previous version, cut it is pretty much the same aside from looks... If you get one, get the pedal.... And also consider the additional features on the 50 and 100 watt models, not that you'd need the extra size or volume just at home for practicing, but they have a few additional features...
Thinking about getting one of these amps
Is this amp noisy on OD2? Without an effects loop you can't put a noise gate in there like I prefer to do with my DSL20HR.
Marshalls are always louder than they appear. Still got that great Marshall sound too!
Good review. I have an early MG30DFX which cost me £50 many, many years ago s/h and it is brilliant. The dev. path to this generation is clear but despite the improvements I will stick to what I have got, which is open backed in contrast. It sounds wonderful and is a lot less temperamental than my valve amp ! Other than Orange I have yet to find an amp I like as much as Marshalls except perhaps my tiny Roland Micro cube which is the only amp I'm allowed in the house (until I get my garage music room finished :-) and then the 100 watt head and 4x4 cab comes out of storage ! ).
John North I have a MG30CFX, and would like to try the bigger version for more features, but I would also love an Orange Crush 35RT
I just put one of these bad boys in layaway can't wait to get it out and give it a shot
Whats sad is the old 80s marshall SS amps kick serious ass. Look at vids of the Lead 12 or the 5010 Master Lead. They had similar circuits to a JCM800 but no tubes. Made in England, celestion speaker in some.
nice zing to the tone. good rock tone.
if you were to run a distortion pedal into this and turn the gain up will it still sound good? the last time i tried that i plugged in my pedal, turned up the gain, and it mad a horrible sound and wasn’t clear
Great thanks Shane! do you have a video on the Marshall MG15GFX Gold 15W?? :D
Great review. I hear in reviews “musical” used to describe amps, pedals. What exactly does “musical” mean? I assume it means more than it sounds like music.
Steven Ohata i think they mean that it sounds natural and nice to the ears
thanks for your video... can you tell me if I can connect the amplifier to the interface? with the pedals I don't get the beautiful sound of the amplifier!
What does it sound like compared to the dsl in terms of cleans?
Would it be useful to cut o hole in the back for more bass? Great demo, btw.
Is there any way I can get that smooth jazz sound with this amp?
Please help me decide! This, or the Vox vt20+? I play mostly clean (little break up), small gigs. country/southern rock. The vt20+ can get the job done (off the ground), but the 8" speaker is a bit limiting. I'm looking for a clean, British sound with maybe just a bit more oomph. I've never played one of these Marshalls, even seen one in person. I don't care for the modeling on the Vox - too fidgety for me. But has good tone. Please help, and thanks.
Nice, thanks for that
can you guess the name of the orange guitar played here on UA-cam? I don't get to understand or read it it looks like a Gibson Les Paul but it is not written, Gibson
Shane, I know this is an older video so please excuses my lateness. Is there a way to do a speaker upgrade demo on the mg50hfx.. I think these amps sound pretty good, but way over priced. It's a shame MARSHALL can't beat BOSS in this market. ? Would the Tonka work here??
Will a noise gate in the loop cut the built in delay repeats?
Great practice amp, I have tube amps from Marshall, Fender and Blackstar yet if I want a quick practice tone with lots of bite I use the MG30 GFX.
can you guess the name of the orange guitar played here on UA-cam? I don't get to understand or read it it looks like a Gibson Les Paul but it is not written, Gibson
@@tonyzecchinelli Tokai I think they were high quality Les Paul copies...
@@tonyzecchinelli its a TOKAI LOVE ROCK. Made in japan
Love this little amp.
I totally don´t understand it. Doesn´t matter, which mode I choose, it always sounds more or less like that normal clean sound. I can´t find anything like those metal sounds :(
@@andakin2182 Iv'e got an old 1981 JCM 800 100W lead valve amp as well, the little MG30FX kills it without blowing the roof off the house and setting off car alarms. Can't understand why your'e having issues with yours.
@@MrCalman65 I am just thinking, if the problem can be caused by dead battery in my guitar. (I have active pickups) Could it be the problem? Because I see, that the battery is totally dead.
@@andakin2182 That would effect gain, volume and clarity. Hmmm..maybe. Wouldn't hurt to change your battery to see what happens
@@MrCalman65 oh, I was so worried about this amp and now, when I bought a new battery, everything sounds perfect. That huge metal sound is awesome. 😅
So now I know, what the problem was
Hello, I'm torn between Peavey Envoy 110 and the Marshall MG30. I could get them for about the same price second hand. What do yall prefer more? Peavey or marshall?
This amp can connect together with microphone or not?? If can i wanna use for busker
Very impressive
Nice review, how does the tuner work?
Can u please review marshall mg50fx
The first time you power on a new amp like this out of the box, is there preferred sequence like let it warm up for an hour and play at quarter volume awhile before working your way up? Or leaving it on for the first twelve hours to burn in? Anything like that?
Accidental Relevance No. Just turn it on and play anyway you like. This is solid state. There’s nothing that needs to warm up or anything like this. Even tube amps don’t require an hour or twelve hours of warm up time. That’s just silliness. Turn it on and go. Enjoy!
Nice tone
Nice looking guitar. Is that a Mosrite copy?
if this is the same as the mg15cfx which it seems to be you can not access the tuner without the foot switch which really sucks that mashall did that..
wait so there’s no volume knob for the clean channel?
Do you know if this model can be used for both acoustic and electric? Need a reply pls
That backing track, where and how you got it?
Those new Marshalls sound ok...I still swear by my Master Lead Combos from the 80s...30 watts with 12 inch Celestions...single channel too...Poor man's JCM800
Right on, man. The old Lead amps are pretty sick and you can still find them for a song. One of those "well-kept secrets", at least for now...
John Ballantyne hell yeah man...I picked up 2 for a hundred bucks apiece...they sell online for much more...but yeah man...I snagged em QUICK!
Yeah i snatched a fifty split channel reverb for under 200 and its killer!! Wish marshall would bring back those old mosfets like orange and randall have.
I have the MG50CFX and it is ear-splitting loud, even at low volume in my room. I'm searching for options where I can jam at home or with the boys when we get together. I might consider this one. Any thoughts out there?
Hey Shane another question
I need a practice amp with which I can connect my zoom g1xon. Could you give me some suggestions.
(I am a bedroom player so I guess the wattage range doesn't need to be too high)
Thanks ❤️
obvs not this amp. since it alreayd has the special effects available. i had a zoomg1xon but now i wanna buy an amp with effects. cuz i sold the zoomg1xon.
Shane, Which one is better for playing blues for home use, Marshal 30 GFX vs Fender Champion 40?🎉
How do you save the settings? What's the difference between od-1 and od-2
Hello I just got this exact model is it normal that it has some sort of white noise when it’s on? Or should I return it? Thanks
Not bad at all, sounds great. Better than the code 25, is was garbage. Forgot the strat on it. Great video as always. Cheers
