    Personally I don't like the channel 2 overdrive tones on these Marshall MG series but the clean channel takes drive pedals really well. You put any good Marshall-in-a-box type distortion or OD pedal in front of these and they sound great.

I took a larger tube amp expecting that the Marshall mg15 would be way too small. But the sound guy miked it and was happy to run with it. Go figure ?! The current mixers and pa systems are so much better these days. I suppose if you do heavier rock /metal etc and bigger venues bigger amps are required. I like that it has a sealed back. I want the sealed 12" sound. I wonder what this would sound like with my 2 tubed Demonizer up front. I don't believe they make them any more. It's a double preamp driver that used 2 12AX or AY7 with one channel running into the next, and 2 tone controls for each. With my old,, small Marshall Solid State, it sounded good when I ran a BOSS HM-2 in the input with the Tone set, the distortion not set, and the level all the way up. I got this info from an Aussie in the store, and he was right. It was very sensitive to the touch, and would throw off harmonics and sustain for ages. I want a pratice amp; I have a B-52 half-stack with triple rectifiers. I don't use it at night because I don't want to blow the neighbors out of their places. I don't like open backed cabs for guitar, I use ports for my bass cabs.

    Valve amps have a sweet spot that usually requires turning them very loud to get there. I saw a Led Zep cover band recently and the guitarist had a very nice JTM 45 and 4x12 cab but it sounded horrible because the club was too small to get the amp cooking without deafening everybody. Conversely I saw a band where the guitarist was using a small Marshall combo that sounded very good. I went to have a closer look assuming it was going to be a DSL or something but it turned out to be a ...MG 30.

    Solid state can sound as good as tube.. it wont sound the same as tube but it can sound as good. What I mean is you won’t get sag or the same compression but u can work with pedals to recreate that. Either way if you can live without that the actual tone itself can be just as killer. Theres nothing wrong with solid state and i personally like how much more versatile they are and trouble free. I recommend a speaker upgrade bc thats the most important part of any amp and these come w cheaper speakers like the origin combos. When u eq the amp according to its needs and solid states do require different eq settings with a good speaker this could easily become a main gigging amp. Personally I’d save precious tube amps for studio recordings where the idiosyncrasies of the amp matters more. In a gig setting no one is going to care about your tone but you. And even then you can get killer results with solid states. They are arguably the best pedal platforms when you hit them through the clean channel with an always on pedal and two or three more gain stages.

      @@JorgeSalasGuitar for sure but just remember tube snobs do exist and they will tell you that no matter what they can always identify tube amps and solid state blah blah. In a blind test i rly doubt you could tell the difference under gain. Thats most people as well. A cheap amp will sound cheap while one that costs more will sound great no matter whether tube or solid state. Take a jazz chorus for example. A 120 is the same money as a deluxe reverb reissue and they sound incredible clean and with pedals. Meanwhile a cheap tube amp like a bugera does not sound good. It’s all relative. One last thing… bass amps are good examples of a good solid state circuit and speaker. They are full frequency so when you plug a guitar into one they tend to have the fullness of tubes but even say a quilter combo which has a similar cabinet structure to a bass amp along with a good speaker tends to have that same fullness. If you haven’t tried it yet try plugging into a bass amp you’d be surprised with the results. After all the marshall and box circuits were designed to replicate the fender bassman which is a bass amp.

      @@Coolbeans1492 well to be 100% honest with you, in my experience, there’s a huge difference in Tube and solid state. I would 100% choose tube amps over solid state and I can easily tell the difference. While there are GREAT solid state amps, I (personally) wouldn’t record with one or even gig with one. They are great for rehearsals or home practice imo. But you’re right, all relative.

    Just bought a 2015 model today, seems like a great amp although I been a Vox fan since the early 80's. This is my first Marshall.
    Seems prettty good but I need to get familiar with it to dial in the sound I like.
    Nice and loud though.

    I just picked up a Marshall MG30CFX and is pretty much in mint condition..for just $50 USD on Offerup..
    And a week for that, also on Offerup, a 2000 Marshall ValveState AVT 2000 (Made in England) also in excellent condition for just $30 USD..
    All in all, two very good Marshall amps for just under a $100 dollars..
    And I own a lot of amps, and the CFX is actually a very good sounding amp..I almost want to say that it gives my more recent purchase (Sweetwater Music) Blackstar Silverline Special 50 a run for its money.

      Jesus that’s an amazing deal!!! I’ve wanted to try that valvestate amp for a while. How do you like it?

    • @Strato13
      @Strato13 10 місяців тому +1

      @JorgeSalasGuitar I love it because like an all tube amp, it takes several seconds to warm up. I wish the reverb was more studio and not spring. Tones are good but not as good as the MG30CFX just because it offers more variety. I think after I take the ValveState to a guitar amp repair specialist, and there are three really good ones within reasonable driving distance, it'll get a needed clean up and new tube since i think it still runs the og tube. But considering its age, and that it was still made in England, it's a gem and a keeper! You won't get a deal like that for a ValveState 2000 AVT for $30 bucks. The guy who sold it to me was a Homie/Cholo and probably just didnt know any better. He could have sold it for more. But i love it, and it will make an excellent FX Pedalboard platform for those pedals I have, but never have reason to use.
