You are so right. Cycling long distances is immersing yourself in a great new world. I am over 70 myself and have done numerous longer tours, including some alpine crossings. And all the tours were a lot of fun, despite a lot of adversity.
You're such an inspiration to me, Katie! I've bought a road bike at the end of June and had my longest cycle last Sunday - 70km. Aiming to 100 next and hopefully one day I will go on an long cycling adventure like yours 🚴♀️🙂

There is nothing like watching the world go by on a bicycle. Last September I rode from Basel Switzerland to the beginning of the Mosel in France. I followed the Mosel until I reached Koblenz Germany . I was having such a good time that I rode back to Basel along the Rhine. It was the best bike trip ever. So well said Katie, there’s nothing like leaving your front door on a bike and having a great adventure. Keep us all posted on your fantastic trip!💪👏

You don't know how much you inspire me daily! I've been on my road bike more consistently since discovering your channel and I've been setting fitness goals as opposed to weight goals. I can't explain how excited I am about this journey. My goal is for a metric century in September and then on to bigger adventures. Keep up this amazing content and message that you're putting out!
What a journey! And you’re right: leaving from your front door to someplace you would normally drive to by bicycle is a pretty good feeling. Haven’t done this is a long time but might give it a go once the winter comes (I live in South-central Arizona). I’ve got a feeling that you are going to have a recover WEEK after this, LOL!

I cycled from London to Paris 10 years ago for my 40th. Took me 3 days though, not like you. Well done! Northern France is perfect for cycling, low volume of traffic and no knobhead drivers wanting to kill you. I was nervous cycling out of London due to the traffic, but by day 3, I was handing off Mercedes taxis on the arch de triumph like a pro. Happy days. 50 now and getting my lockdown chub sorted by getting back out on the bikes, mountain, road. You are a great source of inspiration. Ps, I nearly called you “love” in the well done above. I’m from Liverpool originally and at my age it’s still very much a term of endearment. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Brings back memories, did London to Paris 7 years ago (3 days) and was one of my best memories ever. Weather was similar when I did it, but I had the reward of final stage of the tour and plenty of open bars to drive me on. I am so envious!!!

I have only recently found Katie Kookaburra and am inspired . We as humans have become so dependent on petrol powered transport it's rediculous . Two feet and a heartbeat .............. way to go

Nice one, I’m planning a London to Nice solo ride in 10 days, this has given me some insight and more inspiration
Tristan Banks I passed in this direction on my way from wimbledon to crete 26 days including camping. Youre really going to enjoy that route have a great ride. I went direct south from paris towards marsailles but avoided the city and went off behind outer ring road coming through a very hot dry region then over a mountain in the heat with helicopter overhead watching out for forest fires .it felt like death valley then over the mountain narrow mountain pass steep road and once over the top its like a whole new world oasis st tropez
it takes 26 days to cycle to crete from london and 2 and half hours to fly back . I never had a puncture yet the airline let my tyres down from chania crete and had to push my bike on arrival in london to the tube and back to Wimbledon home when my cycle pump wouldn't work. When you do very long cycle tours you feel sad to be back home and wonder why you rushed to get back . the last thing you want to do is clean and put away your gear for next time.........
I've quite enjoyed this trip of yours! Such a different and interesting riding paradigm compared to what I'm used to. Can't wait to come back again next year.

Well done to endure the heat - it must have been tough. Travelling through France in August always means getting cooked. Brings back so many memories seeing the Eiffel Tower as we lived just there for a while. Can't wait to see where the next 2 days take you

Nice ride ! I remember doing a 3 day solo trip to Dieppe from the Netherlands, dehydrated, encumbered and a sunburned forehead on the 3rd and final day I rolled down the last hills feeling an absolutely satisfied, I definitely share your sentiment ; getting a long ride done on your own legs is so fulfilling but jeez...I was not well prepared for it. Good luck and enjoy the french countryside, follow the rivers !

On the plus side, 40C is the absolute peak for your day. I'm an expat living in Qatar, and it was 41 at 23:15 the other night at the airport. The heat index most days last week was in the mid to high 60's. No riding between 9:00 and 17:00 allowed for us until October, but that's the price we pay to ride under blue skies in 25 degree weather on Christmas.

Riding 35°C pretty much most days here in FL summer time. Good job! You get used to it...eventually! 25 oz fluid every 15 miles.

Living I Queensland Australia, I know what its like to cycle in heat. When doing the Rapha 500 in Dec-Jan the hottest time of the year here , I found a fountain at a shopping centre and climbed in to cool off. Security turned up to check on me 😁. He bought me a cold drink and let me swim in the fountain until I recovered.
Well done in that heat! That would have buckled me😂
That is just insane. I love the creative anarchy of your videos when you are doing these rides. You must have been completely knackered by the heat but I would rather be completely knackered by the heat, than sitting for ten hours in the sweltering heat at a desk in my own home and laboriously redoing work which I was assured had been completed by other people working at home at daily Teams meeting after Teams meeting over the last three months.
Black clouds outside as darkness falls. The horses, sheep and goats in the fields and the tawny owl in the trees at the end of my garden are silent because they all know what is coming. Let the clouds disgorge their blackness over my little corner of West Country hills all night and the world will be a better place in the morning.

This is inspiring Katie, me and hubby sat here planning our trip for June 24 and of course I searched out a trip you were bound to have done! Both of us in our later years and needing our 8 hrs sleep we’ve decided to take a few days to cover the route. Husbands cousin lives in Paris so accommodation and tour guide set up for when we eventually make it there. Would it be possible for you to post your Strava link, we have a few route options and still not sure which one would be best. Also any other advice re London to Paris gratefully received. I’m very nervous about the 1st stretch and the London traffic as I’m used to the Derbyshire countryside!
Cycling from Anuradhapura to Jaffna in Sir Lanka in 40c no shade, killer but great for the weight loss. I'd do it again if it wasn't for the covid. thanks for posting

It’s awesome to be able to tourist around like that, wish I could do a long ride like that but where I live there is full of hills everywhere, the far I have done is 140km but I end up with sore legs all week.

I feel your pain about getting out of London. I'm unfortunate enough to live in the mental urban jungle, and it freaks me out everytime I leave that front door. I wish there was an easier way out of the city. I haaaaate it.

Just got back today from a solo London to Paris to London in 46-hours... Must have missed each other!! Was super super hot the past few days!!
I did a 100k last week in the heat......run out of water in the middle of noware had to cycle 6 mile be for I could get water.......the worst 6miles ever....The moral is make sure you have plenty of water. A friend for mine who does touring says.........
Drink before your thirsty...eat before your hungry...stop before your tired.
