Plying: The rock bottom basics

Spinning 101: the absolute rock-bottom basics of plying
1. You can only spin or ply yarns that will go through the orifice of the flyer and over the hooks of the flyer. If the yarn is too big, it will just tangle. You can ply bigger yarns by hand.
2. These singles were each spun with the wheel going clockwise (to the right). This is called Z twist yarn because if you sliced it and looked at the twist, it would look like the letter Z. For Z twist yarns, the plying has to be done backwards (with the wheel going to the left). This is called S twist.
Most beginning spinners ALWAYS spin their singles to the right and ply to the left, or vice-versa. It keeps it easy, but there is no rule.
