Will the 700 Crore project also materialise with established stars on the big screen? Can #disneyplushotstar really back such a massive scale? Literally a lot of People from different industries wants to make mahabarat. Like rajamouli in Telugu, mohanlal - Mt Vasudevan Nair wanted to make in Malayalam and they almost completed the script but never took off and Aamir Khan's dream project is adaptation of mahabarat but never got materialized. I hope everything works out really soon and gets executed really well. As Aamir Khan said " mahabarat won't let you down but you can let mahabarat down".
I feel like the disney hotstar series is really aiming to do it without stars which would be a wise decision if they just dont want to wrap it up in one season! A series like this deserves to be over several years

The casting has to be perfect. Dialogues needs to be organic. Production has to be epic. And the most importantly the source should be respected.
Basically it should be equally good as B R Chopra's Mahabharata

There shouldn't be any mainstream actors in series, people are tired of watching them, they always perform same everywhere, for exe Ajay Devgan is Ajay Devgan in singham aslo and in tanjhaji aslo no difference at all. Plus these celebrities do not believe or follow any of the teachings of Mahabharata. They will never be able to adapt the character. Please keep Bollywood away from this amazing epic.

Pooja Sharma from Mahabharat on star plus is very good actor and she has done a good job as dropadi especially the vastraharn scene. May be she great choice in new series. She deserves a chance in this new series.

How can you forget the Starplus Mahabarat? They nailed the casting. Shaurab raj jain as Krishna, Shaheer sheikh as Arjun, Pooja sharma as Draupadi, Aham sharma as Karna and Pranet bhat as Shakuni did tremendous job. I still think of their faces when I remember these characters. And the show was a pan-India hit too. It has fans from hindi belt, telugu, tamil dubbed versions etc.., It was decently grand & the music was top notch.
Yeah it is now available on hotstar.. its actually decent but the sets look fake. And the background score is loud and horrible.. it really ruins the experience. When will indian filmakers understand that sometimes even soft background score will have great effect rather than loud songs they play in the background

My biggest fear is movie producers hiring writers who don't know Hindi and Sanskrit. They'll end up writing dialogues in Urdu or using modern lingo which won't suit the plot at all. This even happened with Brahmāstra, Shamshera as well.

But they may use it cuz majority of people understand hindi and such languages only instead of sanskrit which is the original language of mahabharat but not many people nowadays actually understand it

@@Spark-pe7vw They don't need to use pure Sanskrit buddy. Just look at the BR Chopra's Mahabharat, they used pure Hindi with few sanskrit words in between. It was the perfect dialect that not only suited the characters of that period but was easy to understand for most common people.

I've been watching B.R Chopra's Mahabharata from childhood and i never saw such perfect casting, dialogues and screenplay. One of the finest artistic gem. The smile and divinity and charm of Nitish Bharadwaj as Krishna, The powerful performance of Feroz khan as Arjun and more other characters, is unmatchable. ❤️❤️❤️

But if you want to go overseas high budget series is required in upcoming years. And it has to be dubbed in english also.
acting is the biggest strength of br chopra mahabharat i hope netflix to understand this cast actors very wisey .
The best part was dynamics between the characters. That tv serial was not treated as a soap opera but rather allowed to have it's own breathing space by allowing only one episode per week rather than stretching the story beyond it's elasticity. The dialogues were brilliant and so was direction. It's been almost three decades since we had a show worthy to be considered at it's par in prime time television
India doesn't need an Avenger or Justice League type ensemble movie. Mahabharat alone is enough to fulfill that dream. It'll be so amazing to see an actual multi-starrer film with such a great story come to fruition.
Exactly bro we are so blind in being like westerns. We are indians we have our own identity why become like them when you have such a powerful identity of your own.
But then the questions arises that ancient Indians were creative enough to come up an Epic like Mahabharat.
Modern western people are coming up with Lord of the Rings, Avengers level things.
Even modern Japanese and Korean writers are releasing world wide hit movies every year.
When will modern Indians make new content that resonates throughout the world. In the last 22 years, we have less than 10 films that were popular worldwide because of content: RRR, 3 idiots, My Name is Khan, Dangal, Bahubali, and one or two more at max. No new legendary content.
Making a Mahabharat movie/series every generation is a good way to keep new generations aware of the EPIC. But I just hope that the Ability to Create New Legendary content doesn't get lost.
Else, 2000 years from now, people would still be reading Mahabharat and call that Era as golden Era, and our Era- with almost 0 contributions to new Epics- will be ignored.
Mahabharat movie/series is very much needed.
But that doesn't mean we don't need any new content.
Even the people of past will look down upon us as pathetic beings that we can't even create another legendary thing.
Western and Eastern countries are coming up with new content almost every year.
They didn't stop producing new Legendary content.

I am an Indian Christian and I have grown up watching and listening stories and sets on Mahabharata. I have always been fascinated with the stories and the concepts. The plot the set pieces are beyond imagination. This has an amazing potential. If this has to be made, it should be made in series with numerous seasons. The scale of Mahabharata is so huge every episode should be a masterpiece. This should be something that stays on top of world cinema for decades. Tbh. Game of thrones plot is so small and almost nothing if compared to Mahabharata. This will be something beyond religion, beyond bounties and languages.

I think I can confidently say that rajamouli is gonna make Mahabharatam work. He once told in a telugu interview that he reads Mahabharata everyday from a new characters perspective and he almost read all the version of Mahabharata he has so far heard of. He really is a pioneer in VFX and also may possibly have the best understanding of characters and plots since he is reading so much on that everyday, since he is a kid. Rajamouli also said this to someone who asked him when he was gonna start Mahabharata shooting. He told them that he is not yet prepared for the film yet and is trying to wait for another 10 years for the technology to advance, so he can put the best effort into storytelling. That's the dedication he has towards making Mahabharata.
I think the perfect director for this would be SS Rajamouli sir. His patience example for a film like Bahubali, and his handling of huge projects near to perfection and with genuine respect for Indian history. He's the best choice to make a series on Mahaabhaaratam.
So you want problematic scenes like mahendra bahubali stripping that girl and stupid dialogues like "tum ek ladki ho Main ek ladka hoon, main tumhe pyar karne aaya hoon"

Our history's one of the best part is Mahabharat but not only Mahabharata. There are tons of scripts, tons of Novels etc. Especially Bollywood if you see when they get to make any Hindu History movie they will straight away chose Mahabharata or Ramayana nothing else!

The BR Chopra version has been the gold standard to date. Put aside some of the histrionics and dated effects, but the sheer talent of the actors and the passion in telling the story makes it incredible tv even after 35 years. The Mahabharath deserves a long TV series, with a visionary like Rajmouli behind it. Anything less is a travesty

I was 13 when i saw the Mahabharata (2013) show, Me and my family would tune in every week to watch it
For me, that would be the best rendition of Mahabharata, decent visuals, good acting and an honest representation of Mahabharat i saw the first time unfold in front of me

It would be impossible to expect ss rajamouli to direct a tv series. He takes 3-4 years for a single movie!

Actually, B R Chopra had set such a high standard that you can't imagine any other playing Bhisma, Krishna, Duryodhan, Shakuni other than Mukesh Khanna, Nitish Bharadwaj, Punit Issar and Gufi Paintel. All other castings were fabulous too. If somebody is planning to recreate Mahabharat today, then as Rajamouli said, the casting should not be made from established actors. Else all the characters will look like Akshay, SRK, Ranbir, Deepika. And you are quite realistic by saying that this should be made into a series with atleast 5 seasons with 10 episodes each. The top preferred OTT platform to create this might be Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+ Hotstar.
High standard for only Indian Audience, global audience will boo B.R. Chopra's Mahabharat. We have to think big.

For saurabh Jain as krishna, Pooja Sharma as draupadi , and i forgot the name of the person who played shakuni but the casting in starplus mahabharat was beyond perfection can't imagine krishna, draupadi and shakuni as someone else other than these
BR Chopra's adaptation aside, Star-Plus's Mahabharata is so freaking good with perfect casting and it deserves more praise ....
the Mahabharata show that aired on Star Plus had really good casting and acting.. It was well made too given its budget.. They should get some of the cast back.. especially Saurabh Raj Jain as Krishna.. He is just too good to be true

All I want is a truthful adaptation to the source material. I recently read 'Mahabharat Unravelled' by Ami Ganatra and was shocked to read so many facets of the epic are either unknown or distorted. I hope this series does justice to the source material.
No. It won't. It will further distort. They might show Karna and Draupadi having affair too. Never trust Bollywood. Money Hungary and no respect for culture.
Same! If I ever get to write it. I'll be referring to her book and the BORI source material. My attempt will be trying to make it as authentic as possible and as historically realistic as possible. But it's a huge huge work. Unlike other stories.

I feel like if we make The Mahabharat now, movie series or television series, we owe it to our culture and to our country for it to be absolutely perfect. No pacing issue, no casting mishaps, no imperfect dialogue, no half-hearted side stories, no faulty VFX, no flawed battle scene, no missteps in set design, no off theme music. It is mammothian responsibility to make it. It will be gratifying only if its absolutely perfect. No margin for error.

I am a Muslim and I love love the Mahabharat and Sanathan Dharma philosophy in general. I hope SS Rajmouli-ji births the film. And that he casts unknown but brilliant actors in character, feel and look of the characters and please let it be a series and follows George RR Martin’s form of world building. Please, Allah, I beg of you to make this into an epic series and not just a movie
Not just the complexity of the epic, the closeness that we feel with the stories in this epic or with characters in the epic will deter most filmmakers from taking a chance of letting us down
Haven't watched the old Mahabharat but the Mahabharat that aired on Star Plus was a good one too. Everyone performed their characters very well. And the music department was so good. I still get goosebumps when I hear the title track of Star Plus Mahabharat.
I honestly don't want bollywood or any other industry to make Mahabharata if they're not going all in for it. It can be the biggest blockbuster ever or a disaster nothing in between. The cast, the BG music everything needs to be on point.

Yeah the one on starplus can be a really good one for younger generations. The acting the VFX and the characters all were pretty good
Music was definitely very good but when I saw the trailers my instant thought was "nope!! Not for me".. On your face vfx, unnecessary action(and cgi) scenes(people jump with their weapon, ground fragments).. Casting mostly looked bad( Krishna, Arjun and karn were good though from couple promotional clips I've seen)

The role of draupadi played by pooja sharma in the 2013 mahabharat was epic in itself. It's even impossible for me to think of anyone else but saurabh jain playing the role of lord Krishna. And tbh I don't think so if anyone ever came close to his performance.

I feel Bollywood lacks patience. Firstly the scale of Mahabharat would demand a series of movies. So it would take years, at best 6-7 to properly direct each movie of the series and space them out rightly. Also the investment is huge. The current scenario where the movies are failing at cinemas would make any director or producer averse of taking such a risk. I don't see Mahabharat happening anytime soon
I agree. I doubt anybody in India except Rajamouli even understands the nature & the complexity of the project & the investment both from a financial standpoint & from a storytelling perspective it requires. And even Aamir Khan, because whatever PK may have shown, I genuinely believe he is Mr. Perfectionist & would have done absolute justice to this epic venture. Hoping Madhu Mantena delivers something to cherish for years!

The movies are trying to touch the mark of 500 to 1000 CR, and i am happy to see , that it's happening in Indian movies, but I really want that the budget should go to the movies not to the actors. The actor and actress should charge, but not beyond the story itself ❤️

Well If we are ever going to have such an epic. We may need a similar approach done on the Hollywood series.
Multiple directors dealing with multiple timelines simultaneously with a Pan-Indian cast.
It is doable may be some collaboration with Rajamouli, Karan Johar, SRK, Kamal Hasan, and even Prithviraj to make this vision and the connection to make this possible.
Please leave out Karan Johat from tat list. We saw what he did with brahmastra. It will save a lot of money and add quality if he is not included in the project.

Why do we need to make something that rivals Game of Thrones? How about let's make something that is high quality and actually captures the essence of India's greatest epic? Let's hope whatever is made does not have the gratuitous sex and violence of GoT. Also, it's going to be a tall order to compete with the Dialogues and Performances from BR Chopra's classic series from the late 80s. I have a hard time seeing anyone surpassing the actors who portrayed Bhishma, Arjun, Vidur, Dhritrashtra, Dhuryodhan, Shakuni, and of course Nitish Bhardwaj as Shri Krishna. Whatever is made better have soul, and good acting.
I really want to witness Mr. Rajamoulis vision of Mahabharata.., He said to achieve his imagination with current technology is difficult, so he's learning more and more about vfx, He says, it's his practice films and final goal would be the epic Mahabharata.
For me only Rajamouli can do justice. His storytelling, character introduction and iconic shots will give goosebumps.

Auditions and perfect castings are must for an epic story like this. Collaborations are required from different industries. After watching Brahmastra I fear that Filmmakers will ruin this piece too. It really needs excellent scripts, exceptional writing, bgms, and vfxs. In short it requires a dream team.

Dear Jammy, This is my first comment on your channel though I had been following your amazing honest reviews from a long time. Am always a fan of your articulative reviews . There might be a good reason for you not to mention the epic series made in the year 2013( sorry if I am mistaken with the year). I was blown away with the star cast and absolutely absorbed by the entire series. I feel Saurabh raaj Jain as Lord Krishna is irreplaceable and should be considered for the epic series again. He just lived the character. He might not be the mainstream actor but I believe if anyone can do justice with the character of Lord Krishna it would only be him . He has such a great potential but it's so hard to see him again anywhere now. Not sure why makers do not give opportunities to great small screen talents like him who are greatly loved by the audience. Hope Disney hotstar doesn't disappoint with the star cast as after 1988 series, 2013 one is etched in our memories for the stellar cast, performance and visuals .
The best scenario would be.... Removing all the "star" Actors who would take up the budget, give it to the VFX and set, and make a series

But here the script is readily available you only need a good team to execute it......

I hope they don't show Krishna, Draupadi as fair skinned people like we see on every mythological television show ever. I hope some dark skinned, skilled actor/actress play Kanha ji and Draupadi (Also that doesn't mean give a fair skinned actor/actress a dark complexion through makeup). Best would be to follow the Marvel template - first introduce principal characters through their own series and then all of them collaborate into an Avengers like setup. This will take years just like the MCU - So we really need filmmakers who are passionate, respectful and patient with the subject.
The best part about Mahabharata is that how uniting it is, I have seen my friends from different religions, including Islam and Christianity and even my atheist friends discuss it and know a great deal about it. Hope we get to see it in the big screen.

As you said chase the story not the stars, it would be safe to cast big actors like Deepika Padukone as we have seen her giving such performances. I guess Tripti Dimri would be an exceptional choice. Talents like her should be promoted on such big-scale projects like this. She surely leaves a great impact with whatever character she plays on screen! A star would be made for sure as Rajamouli said.
Deepika doesn’t even look the part of Drupadi… she’s too fair.. someone is dusky… Priyanka choora would be perfect for that role… but I think she might be too old for the role…. Rashika another actress might be a good choice too!

I would add one more point to S.S. Rajamouli's point. Rather than spending a lot for established actors, spending on good writing would be ideal. Casting obsure but excellent actors would be ideal so that you dont run out of budget half way through.

I think a very often overlooked project when talking about thematic versions of Mahabharta is the 2012 animated file "Arjun the Warrior Prince". While it was short and focused mainly on Arjuns story, it did so atop the background of a good chunk of Mahabharta. And i feel it really captured the inner feelings of the main characters atleast. Even Duryodhana, Shakuni and Karana were voiced and animated like u would imagine.
Yeah that's a very underrated animation project. That's why I feel it's better to make animation series rather than live action.

@@mtk3755 even the legend of hanuman on Hotstar is so really well done I second the thought of wanting an animation over a live-action film. if they do decide to go for a live-action, I hope they use the same level and quality of VFX as in bramhastra.
Reasons I think this project wouldnot materialize :
1. This epic story requires a very high budget for vfx. Not less than 200-300 M $
2. Commitment from actors for so many years and manage their fees
3. Audience wanting the actors to be perfect human being if they play such characters
4. Dedicated team which will do complete justice to the epic

This reminds me of an old Aamir Khan interview. He was asked whether or not we can make a movie like LOTR in India? His reply was that we can make the baap of LOTR, i.e. Mahabharat. He also added that we need conviction to successfully pull it off.

If there's one thing Mahabharat needs, and needs to be bang on; is the sheer conviction of the cast, the crew, and everyone who's backing it. We live in a day and age, where our primary objective has become to mint as many box office numbers as possible; and in that process, hamper the content visible to the audience. You can't do that with Mahabharat. You make it once in 50 years, and you make the best thing to have existed in the last 50 years. Frankly, I see the conviction missing today. But yes, I would love, love and love, to be proved wrong.

I think Telugu Cinema in particular has been the closest to approach and make movies on the Mahabharata. Movies like KrishnaPandaveeyam, Pandava Vanavasam, Nartanasala and Kurukshetram were made covering the Adi Parva, Sabha and Aranya Parva, Virata Parva and the war respectively. NTR was elevated to legendary demi god status for his portrayals of Krishna, Arjuna, Bheema and Duryodhana in these movies and are still considered to be epics! In fact Rajamouli in an interview to a Telugu channel had said that one of the reasons for him to not make Mahabharata is because NTR is still fresh in people's minds (despite it being almost 60 years since most of his Mahabharata based movies came out) and he wants to avoid comparison. The Hindi Mahabharat series also took notes from NTR
While the VFX of these movies was top notch for those times (Mayabazar was brilliant with visual effects), I believe that what worked best for these movies was the brilliant performances of the actors, who looked tailor made for the roles, and script being true (well to a large extent) to the scriptures. I hope the new creators place equal emphasis on staying true to the source material as they cater this to a global audience. The recent Star Plus series was way off the mark in this regard. While the VFX would make this a visual spectacle, one must remember that the heart of the Mahabharata lies in its story.

So true, I don't think anybody has come close to portraying Arjuna like NTR did in Nartanasala or Krishna like he did in Tulabharam and Mayabazar; NTR was Regality at its finest. I think the biggest problem any Mahabharata would face in the telugu speaking states would be the inevitable comparison that would come up with movies like Mayabazar, which I believe is the finest movie made in India, and actors like NTR and SVR (whose performance as Ghatotkacha and Duryodhana sometimes supersedes NTR's performances)
Rajamauli did say that it is hard to make it with established stars, but we can't ignore the fact that any star would give 6 years of his time to himj, if Rajamauli himself becomes a brand, which he already is or atleast one film away from it. One thing I can say for sure is in Telugu industry every hero would give whatever time needed just to be in Rajamauli's Mahabharat. I cant say for actors of Hindi Cinema.
Also in one of the interviews of RRR, he did say he will have NTR in the cast.

I don't expect the series to be 100% perfect, but I expect them not to distort the cultural aspects described in the epic in trying to relate with today's audience. I do think Mahabharata is an over ambitious project right now. What they should really do is tell other stories from Mahabharata which would not require big budget. An example of this will be Mayabazar (1957). Just like MCU we can build up the universe.

Also Narthanashala, Babruvahana (Kannada).. these movies have set a benchmark.. Something like this can be done rather than trying to tell the entire Mahabharata in one or two films..

Savitri's character or Sashirekha is completely fictitious and they made it up for the movie.... Keeping most of the other real characters but creating a fictional story out if it (like RRR)

The mahabharat movie or series needs to be treated with utmost respect. What I mean by that is if they begin to make the film with the sole focus of doing unimaginable things at the box office, the content and the script needs to be built slowly and steadily.
My point is why all of them want to only make use of Mahabharat story .there are so many stories like the mahajanpads fights for patliputra struggle is exactly like GOT ,all pf them were fighting for it. But scriptwriters just want to use easy mahabharat script when there are literally hundred of tales in india only.

This magnitude movie should start with new debut actors so that they can concentrate and contribute fully. Commercial actors always want to finish and move on to make next big. It's better with debut actors and cost of the movie can be brought down or used fully on movie rather than spending more on salary of established actors
Adapting Mahabharat is a monumental task, especially if they're planning to with actors like Akshay Kumar (their fees alone will drive up the budget). Then there's the huge role of VFX that cannot be ignored and the inevitable comparison to old Mahabharat show. While the old versions effects may look dated by today's standards, its writing and acting are still very much appreciated.
I think people really committed to doing their best at adapting it and showing the world the rich mythology of India can definitely do it. We have very talented directors and actors in our country, especially if we don't limit ourselves to people from Bollywood. However, I think making it just to compete with series like GOT and its success could very well lead to its downfall. It's just so grand, it's incredibly easy to mess up and make it underwhelming. I think the creators' sincerity and dedication to the art would be a driving force.
Please don't cast Akshay, he just doesn't have the level of dedication to one project that this movie will require.
I think we have every means today to make a spectacle of Mahabharat. It is the philosophies I feel creators today lack depth to portray (ofcourse with exceptions like Rajamouli). But when a Disney says they want want to make it, I have apprehensions that their appeal to global audience may alter their purpose of making it or the nadiadwala gang, who treat movies like an assignment to be finished in some days, I feel will again build a hollow project. I would rather not have it made several times and experimented with for it to end up becoming a mere epic tale that people can spin around eventually. It deserves dedication, commitment and absolute devotion to the epic to be able to do justice at that scale, which I feel neither of the production houses have. Mahabharat isn't just Indian version of GOT, it is also a philosophical marvel, which I feel will be definitely lost with everyone involved in making it right now. Actually people who are capable are scared to pick it only cuz they understand what it requires and what are the stakes.

I know it will be unpopular opinion but I think the best modern day mahabharat adaptation was done in 2013 TV Series with same name which aired in Star Plus. I know you guys might already judge that It will be same old daily soap but you have to watch that series first in order to make any judgement. The series have it flaws but overall it's the best one in the latest.
It had the best story telling overall. I remember me and my homies tuning in every week and then discussing how the episode played out.

Star plus mahabharata aired around 2013bwas great...Shahid, Saurabh and orlthers performed so well. They also showed the formation of different war strategies...it was so good
I have watched Siddhartha Kumar tewary's version at least twice now and I find some great acting and solid dialogues there(which are a must in any Indian epic, IMO). I mean look at Saurabh Jain's role as Krishna- it is absolutely lovely!
I don't know who will do justice to that role? One needs nuance, charm, and complete devotion- which I would not find in current generation of actors.

I'm 39 years old. Saw it in the 80s, saw it again in 2006 (torrent download), again in 2013. Started watching again now. It simply isn't enough. The dialogues cannot be matched they are out of this world. Especially the song 'sandeso devki sao kariyo'. I am in tears every time.

This is what Mahabarath basically is.
There is no one perfect character in the epic. Everyone got some flaws and a 100 different tales can be told from the POV of 100 different characters.
It can be told as a fantasy/mythical story, like 100 Kaurava brothers, Bheem with the strength of 1000 elephants, Arjuna with the ability to fight alone against 100000 and Karna with his magical armor...
Or can be told as a realistic political war epic, like in Randaamoozham and Ajaya series.
Or it can be told as a satire, like in the cult classic film, Jaane Bhi Dho Yaaro...
The war could have happened between 2 small villages or 2 kingdoms or an almost world war...
No one knows the correct fact except for the base story and the ultimate winners (Literally, as in the end its nothing but an epic tragedy)
There are subplots within subplots within subplots....
It's simply the greatest epic ever written.

Well said and exactly my opinion too. As Ss rajamouli said in this video, new talent to be made as stars .. GOT is not even 1 cent of Epic Mahabharata ..it's very hard to determine the length and width of this story ..it has a link to stories in Ramayana and other epics as well. Not everything is possible as such we cannot film the mostly known story. Picking those parts of epic which portray the political, mythological aspect is very tough job.
If they include big stars..then there will be waste of budget, most part of the budget will go to casting... Which may affect in screenplay.... India has many talented actors. they are the best choice for quality series

I think this series should come in production after 1-2 decades. People have already completed Mahabharata on television in 2013 which is currently available on Hotstar. Also there is an older version in 90's of Mahabharata. Maybe after 1-2 decade we would have a budget and proper VFX to fully justify the animation this story demands. So without rushing into it I'd say wait for the best opportunity, get prepared for it properly and then do that significant project.
If you want to play it safe, make this a web series releasing over 5-6 years. In that I believe major actors will find it easier to devote time to the project without missing out on other projects. Tightening the story to fit even a 3.5 hr screenplay will be impossible without missing out on a few important plot points.
Personally I feel Rajamouli will be the best choice to direct an epic like Mahabharat at present because of his strengths like Master story telling, Getting best of actors and technicians, Best use of VFX and bgm and most importantly the elevation of characters. I believe epic like Mahabharat with all those larger than life characters any one else may let down.

If we really wanted make great Mahabharat then its only way possible that are 1) Netflix global producing it with budget of 700-800 million (they need to market it globally). 2) It would be atleast 3 season long. 3) Direct by SS rajamauli. 4) All Pan india stars. 5) Vfx will be done by same studio that done vfx of Stranger things.

I hope if Mahabharat is someday made in India, they cast actors from all over the country, from North, South, Bengal, as well as North-East. Also, the CGI and visuals need to be on par with GOT/THOTD level, making it look realistic and epic instead of obvious vfx work. It's gonna be expensive, but I know that the whole country is gonna come together to make it a success.

It is very very difficult to reach upto the standard of BR Chopra's Mahabharat....The casting was so perfect, the screenplay, the dialogues, the direction and of course the acting were so extraordinary that it is very very hard to imagine anyone coming close to that 1988 epic...Nitish Bharadwaj, Mukesh Khanna, Puneet Issar, Pankaj Dheer, Surendra Pal specifically in their respective roles look almost irreplaceable....There is a sense of divinity in that version of 1988 and is missing in any other version in any language... Even the title song of Mahabharat (1988) is enough to give you goosebumps....
Personally, the Star Plus Mahabharat was Mahabharat for me.
It's acting, music and VFX was quite satisfying for me.
It got really, really big in SE ASIA too.

Bengali Director Rituparno Ghosh was planned to make Mahabharata in epic way...but sadly he died in 2013... otherwise we would see multi-language Mahabharata till now
The boycot culture has made creators to think twice before making anything interesting and amazing like Mahabharat. The freedom of speech and interpretations which can be done in Mahabharat is amazing, but this might raise a lot of problem, because we all are baised only towards the creamy layer. Mahabharat spoke about flaws in human beings, but we are not ready because we determine characters by their personal life and very tricky. So i feel in order to start with Mahabharat they need to be sure about which version is been performed and people linked with it . A new star cast without any stars would be a safe bet but it can be dicey too. It's a risky affair but i am really looking forward towards hotstar's version.

It depends on the story teller and how they are gonna layout whole story and the theme properly.
We don't need new interpretations , mahabharat in itself is such a complex story and have grey shade characters that on each character there can be series or movie but on the contrary we know that in the name of 'new interpretation' makers will peddle their own agenda instead of doing justice with the original story.
Nobody will boycott Rajamouli's Mahabharata because people know he is not a phony but really appreciate ls our culture. Bollywood on the other hand hates Hindu culture and wants it destroyed. So of course people will boycott Bollywood Mahabharata. As we all should.
Why would you want to make Mahabharata as per today's version? It's not your property to distort our heritage. Go make a movie on Arab Prophet and see yourself how you will be "rewarded" for freedom of speech.
totally agree with the fact that Mahabharata should be made in series rather than just a movie on a humongous scale
and casting should be purely on skills and ability of an actor to fill in the character rather than big stardoms
I totally agree Jammy, it has to be a one hour episode, ten episodes a season, ten seasons web series with two hour episodes for important events like the first season when the background is being set up, season six around the Draupadi Vastraharan, season nine when the eternal song the Gita is explained and in the last season last episode where everything is tied up.
Naturally, there should be behind the scenes of the making, short reels, discussion forms, website, podcasts, art work, the works. Needs massive planning, commitment from actors, preferably not stars. Organic, hard hitting, grounded yet aspirational.
Established actor can also give the time. But it's depend on director and writer vision of they shape up the story to make actor to willingly involved in the movie. Prabhash and Ranbir Kapoor both has given huge to their projects.
Naah established actors would charge more money plus cannot take years away from their schedule
New comers would be the best especially for young characters such as abhimanyu and pandavas
Mahabharat is a story that needs seasons of series as you said, I don't think it can ever be comprised in a movie format, providing justice to all characters!
Every character is so significant here and on top of that, the story is so complex!
Also, if it's ever made, it should be very well linked up with the current realities (One of the major reasons why I love Star Plus Mahabharat, the way they wove all of it relatable with the current times)!
And, I don't want them to whitewash Pandavas putting Draupadi at stake and Karna!
(Karna is the best eg of a grey character, but people just paint him as a saint just bcoz he was a daani, a great friend and KNEW ighteousness!)

i think Mahabharat should be the Tv show like GOT with detailing every small aspects. it will be like a festival if rajamouli sir make this epic things happen...💯🙏
Mahabharat actually requires a decades of films which are interwoven just like marvel universe, you can't make it in a couple of parts...
