I spoke to someone associated with the film and they said that the conclusion is aimed at being a dream. But irrespective of that, the very fact that you create a possibility that a girl will eventually fall in love with her rapists, through sheer persistence and nostalgia: Nahhh you've got it all wrong!

Seeing some of these old movie scenes made me realize that showing the female lead as strong and independent was considered a bad thing so the heroine's entire story ark is to have her 'ego' broken and her personality reset into a more 'sanskari' women who basically tolerates anything that is done to her bcoz suffering for her family is her only role in life.

I talk about these regressive things we used to watch in 1980s to my friends. Nicely done. You should include this scenario too which used to be there in most of the movies, 'Girl prefers to do suicide when villains try to rape her'.... virginity is considered greater than one's life. Even if she is saved, her entire family treats her like the culprit and blame her for losing Virginity and indirectly force her to do suicide.

Even married woman sometimes wives of main lead were raped and they also committed suicide saying now they are not pavitra. They weren't virgin but the movie showed it as they lost their izzat now and nothing left for them to live

Now I understand a bit of Indian culture around resisting marital rape law. Few days back marriage boycott was trending on twitter by Indian men who protested marital rape law saying it will be misused. I was thinking, 'but any and all law can be misused and get misused a lot. Why they're protesting particular laws where majority victims are women? Should we get rid of other laws in fear of misuse? And why they're not talking about judicial reform rather than protesting a law that helps victims?' After having conversation with people and watching this video I understand two things. One, society still operates on a misogynistic assumption that most if not all women are inherently liars, manipulators and always plotting to destroy a man's life (lol) and second, a lot of men think harassing, assaulting etc in the name of love and marriage is their right.

That's simply because Indian feminists protested against Gender Neutral laws in 2012 because they believe that a Man can never be raped, abused or blackmailed.
      If feminists don't respect a man's dignity, men with a spine won't respect a feminist's dignity too.

      Today I accidentally watched ..
      My opinion after watching movie..
Yes it is completely messed up.
In my opinion both the girl and boy were wrong..
But jammy's review give just one sided story ..
My short summary of movie is a innocent guy becomes psycho after marrying a psycho girl..😕
I will narrate other side of story
(Not justifying his action, what he did was wrong)
A girl who is going through a break up is forced by her mother to marry a avg looking & innocent guy..
After marriage leave having sex she don't even talk with him properly ..
      she literally mentally tortures him.
(Mental torture is equally wrong he should moved of marriage at this point) till this point hero is right girl is wrong..
Instead of leaving her he tries to impress her by being with her takes care of her..
Relationship between them started improving but on there 2nd anniversary he drinks for first time and loses his senses and raps her (which is not justifiable) and she tried to commit suicide..
She moves to her home and files for divorce..
He apologizes but she don't accept it..
At last she accept his apology not just because he tries to kill himself but because she too loved him..
She clearly says that I started to love u everything would have happened with time but on that night he rushed it and spoiled everything..
Whenever he is away she remembers his love innocence care but whenever she sees his face she just remembers that night.
She can't live with him but also can't live without him..
After that he ask her to him and starts to stab him self.. she forgives him.
But overall movie choosed a path were no conclusion is right

Actors doing abnormal acting ( like surya in NGK) , there vl be definitely a sex/ rape / abuse scene in all his movies. Bt that lead vl love that man who abused her anyway. I don't know how people praise him.

Anyway, I am happy that a Selvaraghavan movie got featured in the Matlab Kuch Bhi series! He was really popular in the 2000s-2010s. He had a huge fan-base- especially men, who loved (still do) his movies.. I used to think- was I the only one who found movies like 7/G Rainbow Colony, Mayakkam Enna regressive and problematic.. And the woman who doesn't leave you is 'the good woman' - kind of an image.. I was in college and then working around the time when these movies released.. I had friends, housemates who were in abusive relationships but kept justifying sticking with their partners coz that's what movies like these did- normalized flawed men.. And labeled women who stuck to them as 'good'.. Call movies a reflection of present day society or tools that construct an image of society.. Justifying and validating the flawed men is the problem.. Not showing them.. Even Dhanush's VIP- Amala Paul, a doctor, is shown to have become a housewife after marrying him.. I don't understand the constant necessity to cater to the hero's ego - by showing showing him as the 'provider'..

Mayakkam Enna was not regressive at all 😒 It was just characters with complex emotions being human.
7G Rainbow Colony had problematic scenes, but those were intentional. And Ravi Krishna's character wasn't a straight up r@pist or even a harasser in the movie. He was a creepy stalker like most misguided youngsters in our country are. Sonia Agarwal's character literally slaps the $hit out of him and calls him out on it. Sure, what follows with how a rich guy is bad and the middle class guy is good is cliched. But it wasn't regressive. The whole point of the movie is how Kathir grows into a responsible man. It is a coming of age movie. And if you think the young men of our society grow up with clarity and decency when it comes to the courting process, you're wrong.

Even in Biwi No. 1…..Salman’s dialogue like, “I am with my wife for so many hours, if I am with someone else for few minutes, how is it wrong”…..it’s seems Indian men think like there is nothing wrong with husband having extra marital affair but if the wife even talks to someone or dances with someone, then God save the lady.

And Nenjam Marapathillai is a revenge horror film about a ghost taking revenge on SJ Surya after being assaulted and killed. Although I don't understand what made him write Maalai Nerathu Mayakathile (that too directed by his own wife, which makes it super confusing). Brother I'm truly Disappointed By your thoughts on the movie "Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam" , This is a story that you either did not understand due to lack of translation cuz of poor subtitles or U judged too much before you see anything fully! Essense of the movie is that it has a clear message that sex without consent of a partner is still called a rape even after the marriage! It shows clearly how Traumatizing it would be for a girl when sex is attempted without consent and that being married to your partner does not give you a license. That's what the movie taught me! The hero character was never shown in good light or Shown as hero. The hero character is just a normal another person u might see on road just like any character in any Selva film! The movie is taken with absolute clarity . This person who takes care of her partner , who makes mistake ( hero is not godly) , learns from mistake and waits for getting her love for 5 years of marriage without touching her even! The girl who agreed for marriage for sake of mother but did not even think about the to be husband guy, Spoiling His life as well for no mistake of him! He wouldn't have done anything wrong till then other than getting married to her! Every character has negatives / does mistakes, learns from mistakes in the film just like in our day to day life! I'm just so anguished on how far u misunderstood a Good film that only thought me Good things, unlike shit crap movies With bad Morales taught with reputation of saving culture. U completely gone wrong here brother.

Regressive means - past ideologies which were not evolved .. our thoughts and our movies were evolving at that time or in nasal stage .... So I would have loved to see more movies post 2010 with regressive scenes but anything before 2k were obviously regressive (both the movies and mindsets of that generation)

I can understand films in 80's and 90's making such films, since they were then unaware of what is politically correct and not. But if films in the last 10 years or so still show such regressive scenes, we really need to introspect into that.
