Had never heard this verse (Isaiah 6:8) before watching this movie. It is now one of my favorite bible verses. This movie actually features some really good verses (John 3:16-17, John 2:15-16)!
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’ And he said, ‘Go and say to this people: ’Keep listening, but do not comprehend; keep looking, but do not understand.” Make the mind of this people dull, and stop their ears, and shut their eyes, so that they may not look with their eyes, and listen with their ears, and comprehend with their minds, and turn and be healed.’ Then I said, ‘How long, O Lord?’ And he said: ‘Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is utterly desolate; until the Lord sends everyone far away, and vast is the emptiness in the midst of the land. Even if a tenth part remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak whose stump remains standing when it is felled.’ The holy seed is its stump” (Isaiah 6:8-13). That’s the full conversion with the lord. Kind of heavy considering what happens the rest of the movie
This movie waa fantaatic. Not because of how historically accurate it was (wasn't even close) or because of the action scenes (even though most of them were really really good), but because of the scenes between the crewman. It was a story that revolved around THEM, not what was going on around them; and it portrayed it perfectly as such. For a movie that's supposed to be a "Here's a bunch of tank battles and funny shit" it sure turned out to be one of the best dramas of the 2010s.
Anyone who bitches about historical accuracies in movies that aren’t biopics are annoying as hell. This movie isn’t a fuckin documentary. It’s a movie.
It was quite good, outside of the ridiculously close tank combat scenes. There is no need for an 88mm equiped Tiger (Schwere Panzer) to break cover and charge the inferiorly gunned Sherman's like some kind of joisting combat delivered on horseback when that 88 will reach out and touch someone at over a mile a way, turning the Sherman's into the Ronson lighters that they were rumored to be called by their own troops. Not to mention the Germans calling them Tommy cookers since the N.African campaign. They would have picked of those guys one after the other from their superior defensive positions, never leaving cover and moving from hide to hide to avoid arty or being sighted-in by other long range assets they were facing.
As a person who served in the tank. That total isolation with crews from this world. Inside of the tank gets me to think about me and this world. That feeling of answering is … scary but I’m here for this. Definitely I was young and other friends are celebrating their first 21, I was serving my duty so they can enjoy their 21st birthdays. also cried and broke down alot but made thru as battalion top tank gunner at the end. My father-in-law was one of the original Special Forces in WW II. He passed away in January of 1991. He was an extremely talented man. Ambidextrous, could ski, was a powerful swimmer, smart as a whip. At the age of 70 he went out and bought a bike for his birthday and rode it out five miles from home and five miles back. When we asked what possessed him to do that he said "Just needed to see if I could still do it." But don't ask him about the war. His face would go dark and all he would say is, "Don't ask. It is between me and God. I saw things and did things no man should ever have to see or do. Don't ask." I tear up just thinking about what might have been endured. God rest your soul, Dad.
