Maximus commanded respect through his principles and actions. Commodus commanded obedience through fear to fuel his ego even though he got what he wanted briefly he was still a wanker. MASTERPIECE. Great edit BTW.
Well said. Many leaders and in fact whole societies command through fear these days. And it is usually not fear of physical violence, but a palpable fearsome energy that tells people to stay in line, don't upset the apple cart, and being an outcast is worse than death. As someone that has been (and probably still is) an outcast, no it is not. As a Stoic, I see every hardship I have endured as an opportunity to learn. And what I have learned is that people may be kept in line by fear, but they yearn for people & ideas that are unmovable and unbreakable in the face of whatever storm comes. Make sure your deeds align with your principles, and if they do: nothing made by man can stop you.

I actually think that this movie got me interested of going into the film industry. That and the constant terrible movies that have been produced lately, 😢. But one day, I hope to be a part of the change, that I know will come.
This movie means so much for me. It helped so much in my life and gave me a different perspective of life. I used to be angry and react almost at the ones who wronged me and time after time watching this movie knowing all the lines by heart, I learned so much. How to become a more relaxed person and endure the outcome of whatever happens to calculate my thoughts and always react while relaxed, but not only that. This movie taught so many things. Besides the great acting, the great shots and the dialogue, and OMG, the soundtrack.
Oh my God ! Such strengthen of character , such glorious destiny , such valour and purpose, such great sense of duty. Such a divine mandate. ❤ Get's me all the time. I know it's not how this scene goes in the movie, but I am especially touched by the short scene here where Maximus touches the soil and looks at the old war dog. The way the dog looks at him, this dog that has seen the same horrors as him. This dog that bears the same scars as him. This dog that knows this soil as well as him. A short glimpse of mutual understanding, of respect, and piety.

I believe the director of Traffic won that year. He was nominated for 2 films. Along with Ridley Scott for Gladiator and Ang Lee for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Gladiator, Traffic, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were all great films. My favorite of the 3 was Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Saw a quote the other day and I feel like it fits this movie perfectly “A king stood upon his throne with no heir so called forth his servants His finest general His younger brother His sisters son And all his advisors kneeled before him He stood silent and judged each one accordingly finally he stopped and went “Step forward plate-bearer” His servant who stood at the door looked up and stood shocked “Come! come!” Said the king Carefully and cautiously he eased forward till he was at the kings feet he kneeled and king raised him took off his crown and placed it within his hands “It’s I should be kneeling to you now!” The king remarked The young servant scoffed “But my lord I don’t want the crown I don’t know what to do with such power” The king smiled and whispered into his ear “That is why you are the only one deserving of it”
Great fiction. But in real life this servant is as good as dead. Power is not a joke or poetry, but real as fuck. The crown will destroy the bearer if he is not wise, brave… and lucky
90s holliwood movie fiction. Being lowest in the hiererchy does not mean you will be just when you are on the top, it just means that you're at the bottom. If you're placed to the top you will have to navigate a responsibility you have no experience in. This is romantic but not true. However, if you find someone exceptional in the bottom of the hiererchy they should be given the chance of proving themselves to the top - as all others. Would require a lot of learning and reflections even if you have potential though.
I'll be honest, this edit made me cry real tears more than this movie itself ever did. Sure, Richter's "Nature of Daylight" can make anything more emotionally impactful, but the story within this movie hits a part of me that weeps for what is truly most meaningful within the brief time we all have as humans on this Earth. Our families, loved ones, and sense of duty to provide and protect them against those who wouldn't blink at the idea of extinguishing them to further their own gains. Excellent work.

As a son, I've grown to extremely understand Commodus more.
Life is lived forward, understood backwards 💯
I can watch this movie over and over again and not get bored!
Likewise!
Same here. I even watch the movies Troy and Alexander in awe every time I watch them.
@@samouchannel Same here
The depth of character between Marcus and The general takes my breath away.
When I was going thru the hardest moment of my life, my father said to me: "Fight, son, fight, fight! Don't give up!" And I didn't gave up. So guys, if you get through some hard times, DON'T GIVE UP. They'll eventually pass. Don't. Give. Up!
Win lose or draw never stop fighting, fighting is what saves our life, if not it saves our soul. I can die but will never give up my soul. Fight to the end, no matter the outcome, you win, even if you die. Better to die fighting than to live running. What you do n life lives in eternity, better words never spoken. We all die, how you die is your choice.
I have to admit, this movie made me weep. The most honourable stands of all time. Men understand.
“What we do in life, echoes in eternity.”
“Death smiles at us all, all a man can do, is smile back.”
“STRENGTH & HONOUR.”

My father Luigi is from Roma and growing up he would play this movie all the time. I would watch with him, he’s watched it over 20 times . Ti amo papà ❤️ the best movie ever made
I respect this. Probably watched it over 20 times as well at this point. Such a wonderful film.
Does he know mario and yoshi ?
Sounds like a good man.
This gets me every time.
What we do in life echoes in eternity
A man’s ideals live forever ❤️
1. "A MAN'S LIFE IS A WAR BETWEEN WHO HE IS, AND WHO HE WANTS TO BE”
2. "WHEN A MAN LACKS PURPOSE IN HIS LIFE, HE DISTRACTS HIMSELF WITH PLEASURE”
3. “WE MUST ALL SUFFER FROM ONE OF TWO PAINS: THE PAIN OF DISCIPLINE OR THE PAIN OF REGRET", CHOOSE WISELY
4. "CIRCUMSTANCES DON'T MAKE THE MAN, THEY ONLY REVEAL HIM TO HIMSELF AND OTHERS"
5. "WE CANNOT CHOOSE OUR EXTERNAL CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT WE CAN ALWAYS CHOOSE HOW WE RESPOND TO THEM"

when he grabs the dirt while the dog looks at him is my favorite clip. It really portrays his trust with mother nature and the dogs recognition. I believe that is the commonality between humans and animals, the connection and trust with the earth.

One of best movies ever, stoicism at its best.
Well said!
@@Igor-my6ml 💪❤️✊continue bro you will see changes and better life !
Not just Stoicism but a superb showcase of original ethnic-European faith, which is embodied in Maximus.
Thank you very much, Lewis!
Commodus was not a leader
Yup
After editing, this movie are more likely to a story which describes a man how to go home. So epic!
I think this is the best short summary of the film I have ever seen and the music fits perfectly. It's one of my favorite movies ever made and this does it complete justice 15/10*
What do you all think about the Gladiator movie? Personally, It's one of my favorite films of all time.
If you did enjoy the video, consider giving it a like. It would mean a lot to support the channel!
we enjoy those old movies, because they were made with heart and moral value and respect. Current movies are made for money and no respect to the man's strength as a leader, they put women above men.
@@ecod7r I’m quite irritated and upset they are in discussion about making a sequel there is absolutely no reason for a sequel in my opinion especially in this day and age leave this masterpiece to it’s original.
Great movie. The Gladiator and Man on fire are 2 of my favorite movies.
Great editing & song thank you for the reminder one the most greatest movie I've ever watched
Gladiator is definitely one of my favorite movies. Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix were amazing throughout the whole movie.
Brother, we are here for you
Gladiator is legendary. Your choice in scenes and the calm, slowness in the music is beautifully done 🙌🏼 Very nice video!
Truly a legendary movie, and thank you for the compliment! Very much appreciate your support!

Oh my God ! Such strengthen of character , such glorious destiny , such valour and purpose, such great sense of duty. Such a divine mandate. ❤
Get's me all the time. For some reason, Gladiator gives me or makes me realise all the time of our greater purpose in life even upto death.
That's the best way I can put it in words - otherwise I have no words.
Eternally epic - Love from Zambia ❤🇿🇲
These are killer edits, if any of you haven't seen the hostiles one brought me here out-fuckin-standing. You captured the essence of the movies in both man good job!
And great comradery two warriors who honor and respect eachother even more then most men
Death smiles at us all. But all a man can do is smile back” my No1 minute of all time. It’s a men’s man’s movie.
Still puzzles me why Ridley Scott didn't win an oscar for best director for this masterpiece.
Only the logos knows!
Too violent. Violent America is hypocritical...
Oscar committee has a simple principle : Select the best movie that has been submitted/recommended by groups/lobbies. If you expected Oscars to go in search of good movies/actors/directors, thats poor thinking. Ridley Scott probably did not lobby hard.
the Oscars are Shite.....full of rubbish.....only need to look at Val Kilmer in Tombstone not winning an Oscar to be beaten by some nonsense......Ban it....
Anyone going through a heartbreak or anything that's tearing you apart. Don't worry. Take it day by day. Keep on moving. You got this! The world is your oyster, and you're the pearl."
This movie is so touching, authentic, allows the viewers/ listeners is love for his love one, his loyalty where it lies and his strength....this movie moved me to the point of tears. Great actor, great lessons of love ...very played out in a prophetic light.
“Your fault as a son, is my failure as a father.” Wow.
This must be the best Gladiator tribute I have seen, so many emotions coming from your genius work ❤️
Gladiator is one of my all time favorite movies! Thank you very much!
TRUTH!! Agreed!
For the short bit Richard Harris was in the movie. I personally believe was some of the greatest acting done by any character ever. Whether minor or major role. His voice alone sends shivers let alone the sublime lines they gave him. Absolute magic.
Да, Ричард Харрис очень талантлив был. Светлая память.😢🙏🌹🌹🌹🌹
I loved Richard Harris. He was always brilliant.
I can't believe how far from this cinema has fallen....
I truly think the only good thing about Gladiator 2 is to make us understand how good and impossible to replicate was Gladiator
This is one of the greatest film edits I have ever seen. The timing and placement of the scenes are flawless. Thank you, this was simply remarkable.
One of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. I have seen it over 30 times. A simple MASTERPIECE. This is what our age needs!! ALL GLORY TO GLADIATOR!! Take me back to that time, let me die in glory!!!! HAIL!!!!!
This film captures so much of the mindset and sociological makeup of how it was during Emperor Marcus' time. I miss the old days in so many ways...
ive seen the movie countless times, and i just realized at 1:04, Maximus calls Caesar by his given name. that goes to show the comfortable and almost familial relationship they had.
He was the only who knew the glory of the 19th legion was in that small hill near Rome. Why did my family die.
You are aware this isnt Julius Caesar right? This is Marcus Aurelius, Caesar was the Latin word for emperor.
@@PoffHistory yes I was using his title to.make that point

Now imagine what the early martyrs of Christendom had to endure and die for, for believing in a man who was called the son of God…
@@marcuskeil420 Indeed. I am both a Stoic & a Follower of Christ. And since I am both, I believe it isn't enough to say you believe in the Son of Man, you must attempt to walk his path. In whatever way that presents itself in your individual journey. Much like the Early Christians did.

I watched this as a kid, younger than 10, under a wooden framed couch side table late at night while the adults watched this new movie at the time. Had to crawl quietly to get under the table so they wouldn't notice. Intrigue and trauma are what I got from that night. Ever since, it has been one of my favorite movies. Everything about it was phenomenal. Sheet mightve been a big influence on my life when I think about it now.
Not everyone didn't notice but shhhh here some popcorn

How much I love this movie! When it first came out I watched it with my sister! It was epic and that song at the end we just got stuck in there forever!! My sister was murdered two years later and I think I've never managed to set myself free of rage like the song chanted at the end of the movie nor could I ever find my way through fields of peace that are able to reunite us again!
May she rest in peace 🙏 ❤

Thank you a lot! I thought it was very fitting.
Saw a quote the other day and I feel like it fits this movie perfectly
“A king stood upon his throne with no heir so called forth his servants
His finest general
His younger brother
His sisters son
And all his advisors kneeled before him
He stood silent and judged each one accordingly finally he stopped and went
“Step forward plate-bearer”
His servant who stood at the door looked up and stood shocked
“Come! come!”
Said the king
Carefully and cautiously he eased forward till he was at the kings feet he kneeled and king raised him took off his crown and placed it within his hands
“It’s I should be kneeling to you now!”
The king remarked
The young servant scoffed
“But my lord I don’t want the crown I don’t know what to do with such power”
The king smiled and whispered into his ear
“That is why you are the only one deserving of it”
Yes but when Alexander the Great was asked to whom his kingdom should be given he replied “Give it to the Strong “
