Shock Extender Fiasco

  • By the way, there is an eyelet-to-eyelet style shock extender that bolts up at the bottom -- which is a way sturdier solution and solves the problem for people with shocks that have dampening adjustment at the top that are common with coil-over kits.

This definitely was not clickbait it was aptly named a fiasco! I’d be nervous having one of them break on you just tightening it 😬. Dig the video tho!

Have the same issue. I got 16 (coarse thread) and it didn't work, got 24 (fine thread) and it didn't work.
Now I realize that the shock stem is metric, M10x1.25 thread pitch (Approximately equal to 3/8" with 20 thread pitch)

I have a 68 Mustang, my goal is to lift the driver side 1.5 to 2.0 inches and about .5 inches on the passenger side. From what I've seen this is very possible, what do you think? Also, I have Monroe shocks. Do you think that will make my shock fiasco easier ? Gonna try looking up the thread info myself but still what your thoughts.

Hi, I would likt to ask why did you add the shock extender?
Did you add to the front shocks also or only rear side?
Could you write more about rear lights and this extenders where to buy etc?
Did you make some special angle degrees for the front suspension when you add the 40mm lift kit, or just add to the top of the suspension thats all ?
I really need these informations if you could answer , I will be glad please.

I added the shock extender because the rear shocks were not long enough for the lift. The lift kit just goes on top of the springs and struts, I didn't have to make anything to get them to fit.

Love you're persistence.. you remind me of me at your age. But by the time your my age you will have a few std and metric thread gages and dies and tap kit and will go straight to the right tool first. You're learning. Good job on not giving up. Check amazon though for a tap kit even a Chinese one is good and will save you tons of time in future.

@JaxxlucaCustoms So where do u buy those rear shock extenders? I’m lookin for a 2.5”. Since I lifted my xB about 2.5” lift. And I got a droop. I only see 2”,3”, and 3.5”. No 2.5”.
Do u know where I can find a specific one?

I would probably just get the 3" extenders in your case. Shocks usually have internal bump stops so a half inch of difference should be too bad. You could also check a junkyard for a larger SUV's rear shocks and you could get lucky with a set that's 2.5" longer

@@jaxxalucacustoms3717 I know I been told by sayin, u should of bought longer shocks 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I bought bilstein b6 rear shocks made for 2nd/3rd gen Tacoma. Same stock height as my xB. That I should of go for tundra. That’s 24.50 extended length. Bolt pattern is 12x60. And tundra’s bolts are 12.4. So I guess .4 wouldn’t hurt

What was the proper thread for the shock...its the only thing I need

I still couldn't figure out whether it was 3/8 20 or something metric. The custom ones I made kinda worked but they were super sketchy and didn't thread on very far, so I wouldn't recommend it.
I would try something like this www.amazon.com/dp/B07XC83T7S
It mounts at the bottom instead and should be a much stronger connection. The bushing on the shock might be a bit wider than the opening, so you might either have to bend the tabs out or shave some material off the bushing, but that's the best solution without buying longer shocks.

You could be messing with metric threads something is off

Those thread on your car looks painted black... Maybe clean the paint off and then install the extended

    • @jaxxalucacustoms3717

I actually did have that problem recently with some painted lug nuts I bought. The threads were definitely starting to gall after about 3/8" so I'm pretty sure it actually was a metric size of some sort, since 3/8-20 is not a standard size. Still though I wouldn't recommend using these thread-on adapters, because they are very weak.

You should buy a real truck. Ford F-150. And fix and trick out with a lift if you need more room for kids get a SuperCrew

Or he just loves and will not get a truck. Having a lifted compact vehicles are fun and different

The coolest part about lifting a compact car is that it's still a compact car! It probably weighs about half as much as your Land Cruiser and probably gets double the gas mileage too, so not much to complain about here, lol
