Can I ask what kind of flooring this was, as in the brand? And does it still hold up?

Another person did this over carpet, but he put down plywood over the carpet then the click together floor ontop. He found the plywood at a cheap price at Lowes.

I think that would work really well if someone was doing a whole room, but consider that plywood is going to add another at least 3/8" to the thickness of the floor, so there might be some difficulty transitioning from wood to the carpet

I'm trying to figure out how to lay this shit over carpet too, and I'm concerned how it'll hold up to pressure over time just lying on the carpet itself. I'm thinking of laying down some plywood first. My living room is about 440sq. Ft. How many sqaure feet did this cover for what, you said $160? This is going to cost a god damn fortune. Anyway, thanks for sharing your trial and errors for the rest of us amateurs trying to navigate through the confusing world of diy home renovations.

Yeah I was surprised how expensive even the cheap flooring was, too. So far, my floor has held up very well. I'd say that it actually gets better over time as the carpet underneath compresses, and carpet usually has a tendency to stay compressed pretty well. I think as long as you do a good job weighing down the floor as you go, you might not need any stiffening underneath, but it depends on how thick your carpet is and how heavy your furniture is (or more specifically the contrast between heavy weight and no weight)
Plywood would definitely add a lot in terms of a consistent feel across the floor though. Whenever I roll my desk around, the floor is noticeably lower at the seam there, but not by much.

@@jaxxalucacustoms3717 I was thinking of putting the plastic over the whole carpet first. I'm thinking of putting this in the dining room and if moister leaks it would create mold

I think yovue pretty much answered all the questions I had. I dont like the color carpet in my room, but rather than pull it out and replace it with darker carpet or wood, I was looking into just laying laminate over it. its pretty flat carpet, not shaggy like yours so Im figured it would work even better for me. The only question I had was how does it feel. My only concern is that it wouldn't feel solidly flat or that walking on it would move and stuff. but it doesnt seem to be the case or you would have mentioned it.
    Thanks, for the video, buddy.

Next time, it may help to sand the molding to your liking before final install, no matter the brand.

It crossed my mind, but the molding has a lamination over it that I would have sanded through to get everything flush. It doesn't really bother me, because most of the time I'm stepping over the transition instead of right on it.

So how did this hold up over time, scratching, splintering, etc? Did it end up molding under there? Did it stay flat or did it bow in areas?

Is it still keeping up nice? How long has it been total now?

The floor has held up very well and has been a very easy surface to clean with sweeping and sometimes using a damp cloth to wipe down. It seems to have settled into the carpet nicely and evened itself out. I believe it has been about 8 or 9 months since I first put it down.
The only issue I've had is the screws popping through the transition piece in the high traffic areas, I just went up a couple sizes of screw and replaced them in those parts, so it should be much more sturdy now.
