Know this was posted several years ago. Still have my 89 LX 5.0 T5. Bought it used in 94. My son has great 2005, brother in law a 2018. They can easily kick my ass in all around performance. Something about that crudeness, out of control feel of the old Fox. In my teen years and early 20s this was the best stock thing ever, unlimited potential then and still.
You are doing good on those power rips. I am an old dude (71) and that sound when you punched it had me giddy like a school girl! Only thing wrong with the video is it is too SHORT!! Keep it up!
My buddy's dad had an 87 fox in blue and a 91 in black. I remember him driving me around in those when I was a little kid and they were badass man, left an impact on me with these foxes.
They do! I was 14 when I rode in the first mustang 73 Mach 1 with buckets. What a ride! And then I drove my first Fox at 16 . An 89 GT convertible stick. That was what got me hooked on 5.0s😊
I remember I used to start in neutral, put it in 1st, drop back down into neutral, swing over and up to 5th, and then drop down into reverse to keep mine from grinding. Reverse in T5 Transmissions were not synchronized so they would grind if you didn't put the car into another gear first :-)
Somehow I have two different profiles on You Tube, so I am InlinePaul (from all my F150s with 4.9L inline sixes). I am afraid we have not done any performance mods. It had aftermarket air filter and ducting, but the rest appears stock. When we peer down the oil fill tube it is clean as a whistle, which does not equate to an engine with 150,000 miles. So I wonder if there was some top end work done at one time. It is a bit lopy in the idle but that may be a bad EGR or fouled plug, or even a burnt valve. But the car has great acceleration, so does not seem to suffer from it, or perhaps a slight bit more than a stock cam. We did have a problem with it dying cold and my son added an adjustable spacer device to the idle air control valve which solved that problem and allowed for us to adjust for a good idle speed. Here is the product: lmr.com/item/LRS-9939A/1986-93-Mustang-50L-58L-Idle-Air-Control-Iac-Adjuster Considering the mileage on the engine and that it puffs blue smoke on any shift over 3500 rpm, I suspect the engine is getting a bit worn. One of our dreams for the future is to drop in a 340 hp crate 5.0 from LMR. My son buys most of his parts from LMR and has installed new headlights he got from them. I guess one "performance" mod was gutting out the stereo and nonfunctioning AC to lighten it up. We did not want the stereo because it has dual exhaust with flowmasters, so in our minds, stereo pumping out the beautiful music of the 5.0 pushrod V8. I do have a 3.73 gearset (Ford Motorsport) that came with the car. Too much gear for our unless we wanted a car for the dragstrip, so I will have to sell that off. It has 3.08 now, best I can figure.
Yes I Love it , Lots of fun and any one else out there That's watching this also Thinks it's a Lot of Fun please give him a thumbs up too Thank you from Joey in Honolulu Hawaii Aloha 😎
You've got a new subscriber. I just watched someone cherp 4th in a v6 mustang, but this v8 is epic and far more fun. That thing burned the tires forever. His just sat and thought about it for a while, as he so aptly put in his description lol.
Just plain fun is what its all about, nice toy, i am at that stage were im working out the little kinks in mine before its finally finished, timing and fuel
Ah yes... Ford seat belts from that era. You had to pull on them once and awhile to loosen them up. I remember that well !!! You do that at 33 seconds and again at 1:59
I have a 90 GT with the BorgWarner T5. Reverse gear always grinds if you don't give it a few seconds in neutral and feather the clutch pedal out. If you take your time, you can literally feel the teeth on the gears match and fall into place. Other than that, I recommend a short-throw off-set shift mechanism like I have. It makes the awkward 2-3 shift very easy. You just push forward and it does the rest, you can't miss 3rd gear.
I'll be damned... I have a '91 5.0 and I had to put it in first gear first before putting it in reverse to keep it from grinding!! I thought I was the only one who had this problem!! The only problem I have is it still jumps out of second gear after all these years and I haven't been able to correct it even after putting a new 2nd gear in the car.
Was that West Freeway Ft.Worth...lol, just wait for me to get mine up and running, we can cruise them around. I have an 86 and an 82 GT with T Tops! I'm just trying to get them restored. I'm just southwest of Mansfield.
Yep! lol Very nice. T-tops dont see much of anymore. Your not to far from me at all! Check out North Texas Foxbody club on facebook. Big group of us there
My synchros were totally f**ked on mine and before it was fixed I had to shift it into first then go into reverse or it would grind really bad.. It was weird but I got almost another ten thousand miles before I fixed the problem lol. But by then tho the whole bottom end was almost completely gone so I decided to go with a motor and transmission swap and sold it. I'm kicking myself right now that I sold it because it was so clean and had almost no rust at all.

I gotta fig how to adjust fuel air, get it runnin better. my oil pressure dances around the 2nd white line, it worked mint when I changed the sender a few weeks ago, maybe it went bad or sumthin..lol idk. but it was halfway even at op temp. I wanna get this thing into the 400hp zone. IL be happy then..lol money money money man...lol
+sharpshootah88 Might wanna try a mechanical oil pressure gauge. These cars are old lol. I fixed my air fuel with a tune, but might be able to do it with a adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Gonna need a stroked out 302 based motor to get there or a power adder.
+justin91lx I'm probably gonna do the short block with a tip end kit...I got someone tellin me the combo won't work without a dynotune. so now I'm thinking of goin carbureted. I really don't wanna do it like that. lol.. is that 331 carbd or efi?
+sharpshootah88 he said he has 30lb injectors and a 70mm TB so his is fuel injected, try not to switch to a carb, drivability is a problem, mine is carbureted.

Hey saw your review of sve heads on LMR. How are they holding up? Wanting to do their sve kit for my 93 cobra and curious of quality. Thanks! And thats thing sounds awesome!
You mean the trickflow heads? Never buy any sve's. You'll be happier with the trick flow or afr over them sve heads. Thanks! She runs better now than she did in this video.
Go with Anderson cam better for NA motor . My cam is Anderson N41 . I have fox 93 fuel I run I am putting down 353 hp and 363 TQ . Upper intake run the Edelbrock performer two .
I just got my foxbody last week and so far I replaced the fluids thermostat and the engine it’s running a lot better but I guess I need a new clutch. Mine can’t pull as much as yours 😂😂😂 love the sound tho!
Does your reverse grind? Because I have to go into 5th down into reverse for it not to grind....and a lot of times double pump the clutch. Pretty sure it's common with foxbodys.
I have a '79 cobra 5.0, and am on a budget. This is my project car(it was my dads in high school) and i want to keep it mostly #'s matching. I know i want to do a trans swap(its auto). I am about to buy an e46 m3 as a daily driver in the summer, store it for the winter, and I want my cobra to be a project/weekend summer driver. What should I do to it to get the optimal hp gains for the money? I will pretty much be doing the work myself, with some help from friends. Im 17, and will not really have much money because it is all going towards the e46. Not buying the e46 and putting the money into the cobra is not an option, i need a reliable car to have in the summer.
I want around 300-400 to the wheels. Im going to have to swap the trans anyway because the stock auto will not be able to handle the power i want to have healthily, and if im already going through the trouble why not go through a little more to make it stick? I really cant see myself driving an auto mustang, those things just dont seem to go together well in my mind. And seeing it as I dont really care about being the fastest thing out there, I would rather feel more connected to my car.
+kyle kaminski You can get away with a heads, and cam 302 to get around 300 to the wheels. Around 400 a stroker or super charger or turbo the 302. Doing a manual swap can get costly all depends what trans you go with.
+kyle kaminski Go with a 650 cfm holley double pumper, don't mess with vacuum secondaries, I prefer manual choke as well. Holleys are cheap and plentiful
Everybody in the comments is a shift master
Sounds like truck driving school smh
Not to mention UA-cam brings out the best of the bullshitters. The best one claiming his infinity pulls 145 in third gear. (with 3 more gears left)

Samuel Starling Yeah, I have a 91’ LX and I always put it in 2nd gear then immediately into reverse and it will never grind
Fox hacks
I was waiting for you to actually rip through the gears

mustang1989 To be honest all the tunes seem to run the same. I felt no difference in power. Gonna get the car dyno tune. Should see results then!
Badass!
This car hauls ass
What kind of tires you running ?
Hey what do you have done to that car?
This is a old video. Its nothing special. Stock bottom end 302 with trickflow 170 heads and trickflow stage 1 cam
You have dirty plugs carbed?
You caught those misses too!!!
Oh my mistake. Now i am actually looking at the trickflow ones. What kind of tune did you end up going with to get her running smooth?
You'll like the trickflow over the sve. I got the car dyno tuned to get her running right. Plus picked up around 25 hp over the bama tunes.

Did you know if you go into first then reverse the transmission won’t grind
Yep, reverse isn't syncro
Is yours a coupe ? I've got an 89 coupe former Georgia State Patrol unit 798 post 44 Forsyth
Mines a hatch
+sharpshootah88 my bad you said it's a 306ci. woops. anyhow is that carbed or efi?
+sharpshootah88 he said he has 30lb injectors and a 70mm TB so his is fuel injected, try not to switch to a carb, drivability is a problem, mine is carbureted.

I could tell he in Texas by the house
Yep
so I have been wanting to video myself driving my fox like you did. what camera set up do you have and how did you install to the inside of your car.
Gopro with a suction cup mount on the window
What block do you have in there? Mine's the 302 with the five speed and she boogies
This video had a 306 in it. H/C/I
@@justin91lx very nice
Hey saw your review of sve heads on LMR. How are they holding up? Wanting to do their sve kit for my 93 cobra and curious of quality. Thanks! And thats thing sounds awesome!
You mean the trickflow heads? Never buy any sve's. You'll be happier with the trick flow or afr over them sve heads. Thanks! She runs better now than she did in this video.
What was all done to your fox? I'm looking to build one curious whats done to it to get it to 300whp.
Stock bottom end. Trickflow heads, stage 1 cam. 30lb injectors, typhoon intake 70mm tb. This car made 300/334 at the wheels
Go with Anderson cam better for NA motor . My cam is Anderson N41 . I have fox 93 fuel I run I am putting down 353 hp and 363 TQ . Upper intake run the Edelbrock performer two .
That car is good but i have one that won all the race
Is that the original 302?
No It was a fresh rebuilt 302 with trickflow heads and cam
I just got my foxbody last week and so far I replaced the fluids thermostat and the engine it’s running a lot better but I guess I need a new clutch. Mine can’t pull as much as yours 😂😂😂 love the sound tho!
where did you rest the camera during the video?
Used a gopro. Had it on a suction cup mount on the passenger quarter glass
🔥🔥🔥
Does your reverse grind? Because I have to go into 5th down into reverse for it not to grind....and a lot of times double pump the clutch. Pretty sure it's common with foxbodys.
+DopeFragz It does. Its common thing. Reverse isn't synchronized why it does it. I usually put it in a gear then in to reverse and it doesn't do it
I don't think it was just the foxbodys that did that. My 99 mustang would do that a lot.
What was the mods??
3--->
How many miles and year
Im not sure.
What model is this and what exhaust u got?
+Ethan Stamper 88 lx hatch. bbk headers, bbk o/r h pipe, flowmaster super 44 mufflers
what gearing do you have in the rear?
+Aj2no17 This video I was running 3.27s
I miss my mustang gt 5.0 89
+kyle kaminski What's your power goals? I would just keep it an auto, cars are becoming more rare.
What carb is the best to go with do you think?
+kyle kaminski Go with a 650 cfm holley double pumper, don't mess with vacuum secondaries, I prefer manual choke as well. Holleys are cheap and plentiful
Looking to build a foxbody, what motor ya got?
Logan [Editor] 306, Trickflow Heads, and Cam, typhoon intake, 30lb injectors, 70mm TB, and so much more
justin91lx what’s the difference between the 302 and 306? Are they completely different motors or is the 302 bored out or stroked?
What year ratio are you running?
This video 3.27s
