  • It's been a massive effort to get this car together! It has been extremely fun and rewarding building a rally car from scratch but also way more effort then we thought!
    Check out how it all came together, we only just made it to the Alpine!

    I was amazed you got it to run so well for the Alpine with such little testing time etc. It looked and sounded the business in the forest! That discussion about the throttle bodies was very interesting - I wonder whether they have ever had a fluid dynamicist look at the flow issues from a purely theoretical level.

    Hi, did you make the custom front subframe?

    Just watching this vid again. I'm curious to know what sort of front cross member you have to allow the S14 front end?

    • @brendorally
      @brendorally  3 роки тому

      We had to make adjustments. You can run a standard s13 arms pretty simply if you mount them off the back of the crossmember and run a motorbike swing arm type bolt.

    How much trouble did you go through to get it road legal

    Just a couple of clarifying questions if I may.
    Classic Class allows fuel injection only if the original model had fuel injection, of course a 1600 didn't(?), so how come you are using EFI?
    You have a boot spoiler, again, body mods are only with what was originally homologated, flares on a Stanza for example, how do you get away with it?.
    Genuine questions, no ulterior motive, or other purpose, other than my own information bank.

    • @brendorally
      @brendorally  4 роки тому

      Mark Mark howdy, we built the car to cams rules called Club Rally Car where you can fit a late model 4 cylinder engine and prc rules for body panels.

      @@brendorally Ok Brendo, thanks for your prompt reply.
      I am considering various cars to compete in next year, and trying to figure what's what, that's why I asked.
      Hope Myself and Dad (separate cars) can run next year, unless they are going to leap a year again.
      Dad came 4th back in '66 in a factory supported Beetle, he's 82 now but man can he still peddle. He has a VW Bug, '73 with a 2.2 in it. He wanted to run this year, and may have been the oldest driver, but family deaths, injuries and other this year interupted the prep, it's what happens when you get old ...

    For a novice, can you explain why are you running 15 inch wheels instead of say 14 inch. Or say 15 on front and 14 rear? And also, I had a look on the Braid web page and those Superlights are recommended for tarmac. Is that not important? The reason for the question is that we are trying to strip weight out of our cars so we would look at Superlight for obvious reasons but in terms of power, I understood there is a definite mechanical advantage to using a smaller diameter driven wheels. (not to mention less weight of wheel and tyre) Smaller wheel advantaged discussed on this clip. (Fast forward to 9m53sec for the most important bit) : ua-cam.com/video/zqFT0tsusUY/v-deo.html

      @brendorally  3 роки тому +2

      The wheels I have are for hill climb events but after testing on other cars they are very strong and the weight savings are great.
      We went with 15 inch wheels only because we have so many more tyre options in the Pirelli range and it’s a widely used tyre size. Also my front brakes needed 15 inch wheels.
