I rallied one in ‘73. 2000 out of a truck with extra heavy valve springs, pistons from a 240z, a 445 cam from sig, twin 48mil webers, 513 limit slip rearend, 3” exhaust, header, full cage, 8gallon fuel cell, Fiberglas front end, four Cibie super Oscar’s with a Chrysler alternator to keep them fed and a dead wheel drive Halda trip meter, battery moved to driver side behind the seat to balance my navigator who outweighed me by 50lbs. Still only made about 160hp but it got the job done. I’m well past the time I could drive like that but the memories will last forever.
Cool man. I built one over 30 years ago and Murray did the head and Keith from KCF Rally sport built the button clutch ,240 k diff and box ,45 mm webbers on a L 20 . Was so much fun flying through Beerburrum forestry .
Geoff is genius when it comes to cars. I can remember a night in the back streets of giraween in his gtr just before he took it off the road and turned it into a full race car. My job was to hold the widewqnd and give him feedback. It was unbelievable the power of the rb26 engine. Then the braking was just as furious. He had the Porsche 6 piston calipers and they nearly put my head through the windscreen. It was a run I will never forget. Way to go Mr Fear. I love you brother. Got another datto on the build.
the 1600 was the 1st car i almost crashed.. (yeh i know its hard).. 2 wheels.. showing off to a girl.. the girl(car) handled it so well and is the reason i am still alive. i learn a lesson that day about the transition from dirt to tar and was always a much more carefull driver after that scare!
VE SR cylinder heads make a huge difference in intake and exhaust breathing capability. Really miss my JDM SR16VE nissan Pulsar VZR engine. It revs a bit higher than the SR20VEs but love them all. Great build mate.
Sentras in the US are getting better torque figures with qr25de, sure its a 2.5 but simpler cam geometry, better ports for low and mid range and perfect for rally driving where torque talks. The bottom ends need work though in terms of rods and sleeves for 500h-850p+ using boost but usually fine for 8000rpm just using aftermarket rods. Latest PR25 heads are insane for flow but rods again same spaghetti design. There is a supercharged QR hybrid where diesel rods are used straight from the YD as discovered recently.
Fantastic video and you have certainly opened up Pandora's Box, as I'm sure plenty of questions will come in for another Q&A. A great inspiration for anyone wanting to get involved in the rallying.
Please could you do a background video on how us novice can get into rally. I.e what’s the specs on classic rally or even the class your in and the detailed requirements needed. What I’d like to know. I have a 1968 Mitsubishi colt 1000f wishing to enter the rally scene. Like to start classic. No one talks through the regulations from the beginning. Safety gear or even isolation switch location, stickers I mean from the start. Awesome video on the datsszilla
Wow, this is the ultimate 510/1600 rally car! If you're answering more questions I'd love to know what you did with the suspension beyond those sweet coilovers - I noticed the front was converted to hubs and 5 lug. What front hubs did you use and are you using the stock steering box, and what did you do for steering geometry correction? anything special done to the rear beam/trailing arms other than the coilover conversion?

Few coronas to help the cause lol
This is great. Definitely keen for another one.
Great video!!

Thanks very much Graeme. I can’t wait to get driving it again!
Thanks Brendo! I really enjoyed this video about the Datsun, you answered a lot of the questions I was wondering about. thanks mate
No worries at all mate. I enjoy all the feedback it keeps me keen to do more.

Mate great driving, love the footage and your Datto is off the Chart..👍💯
What power does it make in current spec? I didn't hear a figure quoted during the vid.
Gotta love the datoo 1600.
Hey Brendon, is the bottom end a sr20de (s14) with the sr20ve head?
Great vid. I was surprised the gearbox wasn't the most expensive part, but I guess 3 motors will always beat that.
The SG3 Holinger is pretty good for price considering what it does. Yeah mainly issues with the rockers marking the cams. Not the bottom end.
@@brendorally I'm very pleased to hear that. There are few things that scare me more than bottom end failures!
Is that a Subaru XT in the back; the corner lights look different so maybe not
Are turbos not allowed? Or a drift style button clutch so it a possible to fann slip it to get going
Nice work, thanks for sharing. Go Datzilla
Cheers for that.

Hi Lazy D, I love Datzilla to. Front knuckles are S14 and rear Z31. I did 2 build vlogs if you look back 5 episodes.
Brendon, what is the brake setup? Master cylinder discs & calipers. What brand are they & roughly the cost for those parts?
Hi Philip, I did a 2 full build vlogs on my car if you look back 5 episodes. Alcon calipers and Forza rotors.
Brendon, I love your datsun rally, if I put an order to you to build another 1, how much will you charge me?
Thank you
Great video
Love to the Dato
THAT.WAS.AWESOME! Love it, more please!
One question- How much to snatch the RS away from Aaron ;)
Cheers Mason. This one is Cass’s.
This was awesome! Lol at Cass
Haha thanks mate. Gotta do what works in tricky times.
Datzilla is a Beast🤓😎
Is it naturally aspirated? Sorry may be a stupid question
Yep it sure is Dagan
i love datsunnnnnnnnnnnnnn 510!!!
**Did the ROO get away?**
Please say weight in lbs for the American guys
2.2 lbs per kilo
1050 kilos equals ~2310 lbs.
