- This Yugoslavian Pilot Survival Ration was a rare treat. An aluminum case filled with candy, chocolate, and the most delicious malt coffee beverage. Designed to last a downed airman for most likely a period of only 24-48 hours, it has tried & true components that have been proved effective in survival scenarios for generations. A well stored and interesting, albeit simple, survival ration. I decided to move at a nice & slow pace with the execution and editing of this one. So it's a bit long for what it is, but we also give everything a solid look and with lengthy detail - especially that coffee.

He truly is the pioneer of these videos. Now everybody is doing them.
Large channels (crazy Russian hacker) making huge bank off of HIS IDEA. And they don’t even give him credit.
Steve should contact a lawyer, he could patent this video process of reviewing MREs then sue all these leeches who are copying him.

ChickenYale Steve would never do that. He has always linked to other MRE reviewers in the description and is very supportive of everyone in the MRE community. Why ruin the fun for every one else by patenting a type of video? (Which sounds impossible btw)

Those golden Kraš chocolate bars take me back. I used to eat them all the time as a kid, they were everywhere and were very popular, Yugoslavian children would get them in candy gift packages for the holidays or as gifts from relatives when they were visiting... good times. Pretty good quality milk chocolate, too, in my opinion. Kraš (pronounced very similar to the English word "crush") still exists as a company in Croatia, where I live, it was founded in 1911, when Croatia was still in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
This particular survival kit would have been issued mere months before Yugoslavia broke apart and the Yugoslavian war started. These chocolates were issued to soldiers and civilians probably on all sides of that conflict in meal kits and I ate them during the war too.

Yugoslavia wasnt too big country. whereever you land, there is village or town nearby...pilot would just need something for couple of hours
The candy would at least taste good and provide the energy to walk to where you might need to go

The best part of Steve's reviews; his delivery. He shares the whole experience of flavour, texture, and smell, along the finer details of opening and consuming an MRE. The juxtaposition of a table-top style food review, on Military food is nothing less than top-tier entertaining.
I am Croatian. The language in the contents list is Croatian-Serbian/Serbian-Croatian(Yugoslavia's language from the 1970's onward.
Franck was the biggest coffee maker in Yugoslavia and it still kept it's status with their HQ being in Zagreb. The chocolate is Kraš. It's the biggest candy/cookie/chocolate maker in Croatia. The Rondo candy is from Croatia and it was made in 1979.(best selling ("small" candy that you have home) candy in Croatia,but the Herbal Candy i have zero clue about it.

The chocolate bars were called "Zlatnih 8", The golden 8, and sold in stores in a package of 8 pieces in a box, they resembled golden bars. Now you can imagine how cool that was for a kid back then.. It says Kraš, spelled Krush , a Zagreb, Croatia, based candy factory.

I imagine its for pilots on foreign missions like soviet pilots that fought in Korea,Vietnam but werent "officialy" there..

No such thing in Yugo (Ex-Yugo) Steve. Everyone is on a diet that consists of some form of milk at least twice daily.
i'm actually slightly lactose intolerant and get diarrhea when drinking lots of milk but a couple of months ago just started drinking more and more milk and all that went away
it seems like even lactose intolerant people can increase their tolerance to the lactose or something

Coco 11000 the instructions were in Latin based lettering so it’s Croatian-Bosnian. Serbians use Cyrillic

No emergency track suit, alcohol, and smokes with the ration. :(
The pilot would alrwsdy be wearing an Adidas track suit flight suit anyway... Duh... Lol. And there'd have been a couple of cartons of smokes stored seperately in the Mig. As for alcohol, no need. Even as an enemy soldier if you crashed in say, Croatia, and wandered up to some village asking for alcohol and not doing anything stupid like waving an AK around, they'd just share some Rakija with you rather than trying to capture you. Lol end up forgetting about the war completely and roasting a lamb with the locals until the UN "peacekeeping" forces rolled into town and fucked everything up.
