This is extremely sad. The idea negates the spiritual gifts of the people in the community who genuinely have a worship filled relationship with God. Yes, seminary is important. It helps pastors hone their craft and challenges them by exposing them to other likeminded people who provide lifelong ministry support and relationships that shape you and your congregation for the better. But when Pastors get to the point that they believe a robot can be more authentic in preaching the gospel than a lay member of the congregation it is an indictment on the pastors, Bible study teachers, and church leaders that we have failed to equip our people to be ministers of the gospel. At our church we raise up our youth to commune with the Lord and we teach them to read and understand scripture so that they can teach and preach even when we, the adult pastors, are not there. If you are a pastor, I implore you to mature and multiply the disciples in your flock. There is no such thing as a Big Holy Spirit for the pastors and a Little Holy Spirit for the people. Go make disciples who can preach and teach and heal and love! Make disciples who can do what needs to be done. As long as two or more are gathered in Jesus’ name we need to believe that God is with us. And HE said He will pour out HIS Spirit on the young and the old, the women and the men. It’s time out for the church to be fighting amongst ourselves to the point where we are convinced that AI in the pulpit is better than the person sitting next to you in the pew. But that we consider these options says much about the crisis of the church in Germany. If lay people just get in contact with a priest during service there’s a problem because it’s not just the task of a pastor to make a service „performance“ every sunday but to facilitate encounters with God and Christ, build up His church and be there for the parish.
