Oh and if you get a set of nerf bars for a team associated sc10, and flip them upside-down and backwards, they fit perfectly on the side of the gorgon and the body slides into the part that clups onto the sc10 chassis, and holds the body from pushing inside and getting stuck
Love these videos... I so want to get into RC cars so fingers crossed on competition.. really like the looks of rally cars as well. Have you got any videos on taking care, maintenance and battery charging etc as thats my next research before i start looking at buying something...
I know Harley designs and scaled Builders guild had you do a build off with them and their rules. I think you should do the same with this truck. Invite all the UA-camrs you can and set your rules. I think the Gorgon is cheap enough to have some fun with if you're creative. You've already proven it can handle speed pretty well.
love your vids phil. I've got some know how from this one cheers. my monster beetle, with mad van body on to make it less top heavy goes about 45mph on 3s. thats using the esc and motor from the mad van too. crazy rear wheel drive driving. ORV chassis holding up un believably well.
Have the hobbywing 10bl120g2 in mine with 17 tooth pinion it does about 55 and will flip on its back if you floor it. Put granite wheels on I call it a GORNITE!! They do handle the higher speeds as well I'm working on a Gorgon wide kit!😊
Or...(Said in low gravelly voice) The Gorgonite. Ok, I'll just leave now.. haha good idea though! I wanna see a pic of the Gorgonite wide boi.
Have you thought of using belted/smaller tires on the front with the stock tires on the back. The front would, theoretically stay low but the back would balloon, effectively raising the gear ratio but possibly still aiding aerodynamics and keep the front on the ground. This might help with speed runs.
Oh man, those new tyres! I am in love! If I don't win this (and I probably wont😢) I am going to go buy some for my Maverick Quantum+ xt. The Quantum+ xt, those tyres, an upgraded 4s system and shocks, and I reckon it would be a speed demon. Although it might break if you look at it wrong. But I promise you, if I win that Gorgon, I will create a channel and get that thing going proper quick! Woop woop!
I dropped the 3S system from my Vendetta, into the Gorgon, from day one. Definitely needed the wheelie bar. Managed to crack 57mph on a nice section of straight tarmac. If I could, I’d post the photos 😉
Can i suggest to counter the torque of the rear 2 wheel drive, you speed run in reverse...assuming the controller and esc doesnt throttle (limit) the reverse speed channel
Wife: "Honey, the grumpy tea-drinking Englishman you love more than me uploaded a video again. I'll be in the garage doing laundry." That's what I woke up to this morning. 😂
I reckon the body was the main reason for the wheelies after about 50mph, you could see it flap outwards like some wings. Maybe if you tape it to the chassis?
The Gorgon is just fun. Mines only 100amp/4000kv and it's serious stupid on 3s but near drivable on 2s. I also used the Hot Racing motor mount and crammed the biggest pinion i could in there. Wanna say it's 19t. I'm still running the stock plastic spur with no issues. Aside from the body all I've broken is the wheelie bar lower mounts. As crazy as it sounds the Gorgon handles better and rolls less on grass than the Omni Terminator. And it's considerably faster.
Tomley RC have you got a list of the products you used in the video like the steel spur gear the difference diffs please I've upgrade mine brushed to brushless system but need some good tyres and plus the steel spur and metal gears ok cheers fantastic video 😅😅😊
I wonder if a different body with some aero could keep the nose down. I mean I remember the whole Fastest Crawler competition. Maybe a Fastest Gorgon competition could be a thing.
Is there an idiot guide to brushless motors some where I can buy.??? this kv and voltage confuses me I'm old raised on brushed motors 😂 now i really do wished I took electricity in trade school.
The kv rating on motors stands for rpm per volt. Main aim when choosing setup is that you don't exceed max rpm rating of motor. For e.g. your motor may be rated 50k rpm. You wanna run 3s let's say. (12.6v fully charged) so 50k divide 12.6 = 3968. That's the max motor kv you can use obviously you would give it some tolerance so around 3500kv max. 3s lipo =12.6v x 3500kv = 44100 rpm.
Nice vid, Phil! Btw congrats with beating Kev's Gorgon speed record! :D (53mph) Maybe I have some solutions to make gorgon stay on the floor: what if you put some heavy wheels on its front to get more weight there and put a giant long wheelie bar like in a drag car?😁

There's something I've been a little confused about lately. Why are wheelie bars on new rc cars (from what I've seen at least) so short? I have a +10 year old Stampede (Traxxas I know eww) that was my very first hobby grade rc car, and it has a wheelie bar that extends maybe a good couple inches from the body(can't find my tape measure or else I would have an exact length) which completely prevents it from rolling over backwards. It may help that the top speed on it is 40mph, but I see a lot of new bashers with very stubby looking wheelie bars (sometimes tucked away under the body), and a lot of times those cars still roll over backwards, even ones with comparable speed to mine. Idk maybe it's just my imagination.
just the right amount of weight put on the front end of chassis , and a higher amperage ESC , you will then get 60+ easy , for just straight line maximum speed anyway .
You shouldn't really have full metal gears. You need a point of failure in your drivetrain. If something needs break, it's a lot cheaper if it's a £2 plastic spur than a £150 Castle ESC.
Looks like shes at a limit of what yku got out of it ! Unless you literally do a drag conversion 🤷♂️ hows the new quantum holding up ? Im thinking one of those or pay the extra £50 and get the syncro

With the balloning, you need longer wheelybars.
