Design is obviously a huge factor, but considering the RC is well built.. I think this style of vehicle needs some kind of relief on the front and rear axles because of how short the wheelbase is for turning. AJAM Studios pointed this out with the Granite (very similar vehicle) and the rear wheels tend to skip in turns with no slipper or center diff. Handling aside, I think it's needed simply for the forces being acted on the drive train with the big wheels and hard landings. Just my noobie opinion though 😄 still waiting on my first monster truck to arrive🤞
@@TomleyRCI agree. There is a lot of tension from torque in the drive system and it needs some place to get relief to help prevent breakage Cut it some slack.😂.

Center Diff made the Arrms 4s more durable, and now the 223s models which had a slipper before. Much more confident bashing with a center diff, even if it has 20 million diff fluid in it, its got more give than a slipper or spindle
i love rc cars! i have a 1/16th scale brushless basher that i can run it on 3s, its a bit slow top end usually about 24-26mph on 2s and 32 on 3s. but the reason i love it is its light enough and strong enough to handle full speed crashes into a wall with no issues, need to get a new body for it tho
95% of your point still stands. The OT took much more abuse than the Mini Maxx (f/r diffs and driveline out to the cups are still intact) and it did so with superior performance. Traxxas under delivered on a $250 truck that needs more expensive upgrades to do what it promised. You had to take the center diff OUT of a $212-250 truck and it still held up better. Throw only the Traxxas center diff upgrade into the Mini Maxx along with that Velineon system, gear it up to go 60mph, and drive it as hard as you just did the OT, on a 3c day, and we’ll see what’s what.
Yeah I know... I didn't want to go too hard on Traxxas as all the Apologists would be n the comments getting angry. But you are right, it took way more than the Mini Maxx, and I know that because I had way more footage lol
@TomleyRC That was a fun video. I also had a front CVD axle break on my Omni Terminator but I have only myself to blame. I swapped in big 2" wide 117mm wheels and ended up having to add 15mm hub spacers to keep the tires from rubbing the body at full lock. It ran like a beast until the left front wheel caught a piece of terrain at a bad angle and snapped the threaded end of the CVD driveshaft exactly at the near end of the hub extender, which basically acted as a lever for the wheel to snap the shaft cleanly in half. So far that's the only part I've managed to break. Have you considered testing the "S2" steel CVD axles? I'd sure like to see somebody test them before I cough up $60 for a set of four.
The only problem I faced on mine is chewing up the diff cups. So I upgraded to s2 diff cups cvds and dogebones. No problems there after…. I run mine on 6s! It s a weapon. Hobbywing quick run 8bl 150a g2 and 3650 3200kv motor.
Great fun mate! Theoretically, 1/10 parts in a 1/12 scale car should make it stronger than other 1/12 scale cars. But then I'll never take mine to a skatepark and prolly never to a BMX track. Er, and no, I won't be buying one of these. I mean, I still have my MT10, Traxxas E-MAXX 😁😁
Hey Phil, I get the point of what you trying to say but when I am deciding what car or truck I want to go bash, I end up always taking a Traxxas. Simply because where I’m located, if I break a part, I know I can get it within an hour. I can’t get parts easily for these other brands. As awesome as some of them are. I just looked it up, it would take me 2 weeks to get those axles that you broke. If I broke an axle on my Mini Maxx, it’s a 15 minute drive to my local Rc shop to replace it.
Also, i run most if not all of my arrmas on a slipper eliminator, no problems yet and I've put quite a few 4s packs through a typhon 550 with the stock diffs and halfshafts running 3.8 tires
The moment you took out the centre diff i knew that front end was not gonna hold. If you land on power it will break but if you land not on power that driveline has to much resistance to get the wheels moving again. And yeah both ways it will kill it. OT is a beast for sure though. I rememberd when it came out there was a game on the rlaarlo site that could you give discount. I got the metal version for like € 50,- or so.
Had a mini erevo when i ran it on 3s it would constantly pop the drive shafts out. put a center diff in and it LITEALLY never happened again. center diffs reduce the load of every single part between the esc and wheels.
Maybe just get the spider gears out of almost any other 4x4 Traxxas (6882X like the Slash Ultimate) and put that in your Maxx Mini … $15 aaaaaannnnd done. Or again just wait for the VXL version which will have that part already. - Welp I at least appreciate your honesty that you didn’t prove a darn thing and wasted everyone’s time. - Some really sweet jumps though Phil!!
Passed up a stampede for a gorgon earlier when getting a car for a friend, found out the gorgon comes with 0.8mod gearing and so far seems like a tank. Compared to the tmaxx I dropped 3x as much on just to snap an axle shaft in the first week, it does seem certain brands release far more worthwhile cars at a much lower budget
You've inspired me to put the speed pinion into mine this weekend! One thing I've really noticed is how well damped the suspension is on these from factory - very few of the dreaded double bounces when landing! Do you have any manual tool recommendations for the hardware I'll need to remove? Really enjoyed that video. Stopped watching Fury on my 300 watt home cinema when I saw the notification 😂
I have been running my mini maxx on 3s Hobbywing setup with 4800 kv with a center diff haven't broken anything. Did you stop filming and have the mandatory tea break?
That’s good to hear… I lost the love for it. I bought 5 when they were released with the plan to do a good few videos, but just not got the love anymore for it. I have many breaks haha
When ever I go up a jump at a skatepark, I always do a half backflip and land upside down which destroys the body. How do I stop it from landing upside down?
I use liquid mask for painting mine and it works just as good if not better on the outside. Just get a little automotive touch-up hvlp spray gun then add a little water to the liquid mask and it sprays on great.
@TheRealBustinOne I think it was not mixed correctly… had been sitting around in the bottle for a while. It took so long to clean it all up, I never tried again lol
Great point! Love it. On the other hand, just to be a devils advocate, most people argue the point of parts availability. What would you say about that?
Its to do with when Rlaarlo launch their cars, they offer the cars at special offer prices for so long. Then the prices revert back to the normal prices, iv'e always ordered my Rlaarlo vehicles during the launch period & got them much cheaper.
I see a lot complaints about price we have Amazon and you guys have aliexpress where wholesalers buy in bulk sell cheaper I think pretty good just being something different and well built
Im doing fine with a 4,370kv Brushless system in my ftx banzai but only running 2S and i have a slipper clutch going 3S soon and it is stock gearing with road tyers ive been running it hard too thd gears dont sound very good never really did after the Brushless conversation but mesh seems fine and gears aren't warn and i dont get much cogging
Bought the Carbon Fiber RTR version about a month ago from Amazon for $212, haven't got to run it much as it's Winter where I'm at and I really don't want to run it in the cold/snow : )' C'mon Spring!!
Could the broken CVD be from removing the center diff ? I'm not much for the minis but it does look like a good bit of fun. They seem to spend half the time on their lids. Well I watched to the end and looks like we agree on the center diff. Cheers dude good fun
Moral of the story is they all have a weakness or 2. Xmaxx is very tough and a hell of a lot of fun but its like driving a pot bellied pig. I've been in rc off and on for almost 2 decades. The knuckles and c-hubs were the "fuse" or designed weak link. It was so you could buy and replace quickly and at a low cost. And not break arms an other higher priced parts that were more time consuming.I guessing its from the "Basher" introduction and the lack of interest in racing. We all wanted to be a good driver and get on the tracks and race people but its dying. 😢 Buggies,Truggies and 2wd stadium Trucks are my favs.

I got the metal version for like € 50,- or so.
watch that tesla you dont want a lipo fire 🔥 enjoyed the video as always 👍🐿
Had a mini erevo when i ran it on 3s it would constantly pop the drive shafts out. put a center diff in and it LITEALLY never happened again.
center diffs reduce the load of every single part between the esc and wheels.
Yeah… I learnt a lot in this video!
I love this RC, i have 3 omni carbon version... my first one has 213 packs, realy strong and fun car ! 👍👍👍✌
Yeah, they are awesome
I bought one of them and the body cracked on me easily. I don’t bash my stuff hard. I don’t think their bodies are that tough, but I love the truck.
They handle the speed so well! I use a mix of cheap hex drives and some MIP. I find the MIP ones last longer and seem to be a much better tolerance.
For the cacbon version i run spur gear 33T with opinion 24T for 4s is it ok ( esc hw 120A )
I use liquid mask for painting mine and it works just as good if not better on the outside. Just get a little automotive touch-up hvlp spray gun then add a little water to the liquid mask and it sprays on great.
Good shout… although I had some issues getting liquid mask off last time I used it
@TomleyRC Hmm. Did you ever figure out the issue I've never had it not peel right off.
@TheRealBustinOne I think it was not mixed correctly… had been sitting around in the bottle for a while. It took so long to clean it all up, I never tried again lol
I would change the diff oil in the front to a heavier weight
This video will make the price of it rise another 40$
Great point! Love it. On the other hand, just to be a devils advocate, most people argue the point of parts availability. What would you say about that?
Rlaarlo stock all parts + upgrades. Only thing is you’ll not be able to get them from your local hobby shop
notice that soon as these youtubers comment how good something is...the price soars up fml
Mojave 4s…went from low 400s to high 500s…its bs
Its to do with when Rlaarlo launch their cars, they offer the cars at special offer prices for so long. Then the prices revert back to the normal prices, iv'e always ordered my Rlaarlo vehicles during the launch period & got them much cheaper.
I think they had a good sale on just before Xmas. Keep an eye on them.. they drop every now and again!
Phil uk those dog bones broke because no center diff it shows gears ⚙️ are pretty strong
It's ok.
It doesn't use the same fuel as the R32.😊
Bought the Carbon Fiber RTR version about a month ago from Amazon for $212, haven't got to run it much as it's Winter where I'm at and I really don't want to run it in the cold/snow : )' C'mon Spring!!
Didn’t know you had a PO Box where can we find that?
Should have tried 2S since your likely not getting close to WOT after that last gear change.
Yeah, 3s was used just for the purpose of the video
Still rather break a CVD than a differential 😉
Much easier to replace, and cheaper.
For use on-road, a Center Differential will improve directional control. Off-road is is not as important.
Well…probably more to do with grip levels than surface
Could the broken CVD be from removing the center diff ? I'm not much for the minis but it does look like a good bit of fun. They seem to spend half the time on their lids. Well I watched to the end and looks like we agree on the center diff.
Cheers dude good fun
Yeah.. I think centre diffs help way more than I thought they did
Can you plz review the maverick quantum rs flux 4s rally?
_"Not at the moment.... price has gone way up!"_
Shrinkflation?
Somethingflation
Wow u sure build and paint fast great video
Nice looking truck bruh. Very nice
Thanks mate
Try some liquid mask works well
I would adjust the dual rate rather than pinion, when the car has this much power. Seems way more effecient
gracias por ponerlo en km un saludo 😀😀
Also where did you get you diff 🤣
What GPS do you use mate.
This wee can looks epic. Might need to get one 🤣🤣
lol fun video... I have an arrma senton 3s that I upgraded to a center diff from the mohave 4s and it runs sooo much better and more controllable.
Just seen your MCD RX5 mate.
😇🤘
Yeah but put it next to a actual 1/10 scale like tamiya or kyosho from the old days. Just like 1:1 cars rc’s have put it on a bit 😅
Hey dude 😊 I don't watch Kevin talbot anymore 😅 since I found your channel 3 years ago, I bet Kevin is gutted 😅😅😅
From cardiff by the way. And the rival mt10 is in my wish list 😊
Yeah I get it !!
Enough tea's and biscuits and you get a British accent !
Tea… ewwwww
@@TomleyRC :) great vid as usual
I think you should dance in every video mate... classic 😂
Insane !! I've just modded my Dbxl-e.... I can't get the power down and still reached 64mph..... not bad for a 15 kilo truck ( with batteries ) 😂
I had one a few years ago… beast of a truck!
No-one is always right! It takes courage to admit one's mistakes.
Yeah… could have easily scrapped this video halfway through to save face… but I’m not that guy 😇👌
