- At the time this bow came out, I didn't understand what it was all about, and I never had a chance to shoot a Mathews Switchback or XT up until now. The deal came up, and I just couldn't pass, so I bought it! This is my first impressions of the Mathews Switchback XT.

The Switchback and Drenalin single cam bow are some of the best bows Mathew’s ever made.
Doesn’t anybody miss the drenalin. Best bow I ever owned
Best Mathews bow ever built!
True that…
How do you think it compares to the heli m I just picked one up in australia for 450 aud.
Bought my Switchback XT September 2006. 15 years in the woods and still going strong!
I love hearing stuff like this! They’re built to work for a very long time 💪🏻
I bought mine in June of 2007, still hunting with it. I love it so much I can't bring myself to buy a newer model.
Same. I gave it to my little brother about 10 years ago when I stopped bow hunting. This year I repo'd it lol.
wife bought my XT for my birthday in 2007...2021 and it is exactly the way i got it, havent touched a thing and she is still splitting arrows👍
Bought a switchback in 2006 was in my early 20's and had to put it in layaway for an entire year. Never even considered buying a new bow year after year no practice shots or adjustments. Dead on, smooth as silk.
That’s exactly how I feel about mine…
I have had my Switchback XT since 2007 and nothing feels better I Love it
One of the best bows ever made 💪🏻
I have to agree man!
I have a switchback xt also, 2 years ago I bought the triax when it came out and absolutely loved it. Tonight I broke out the switchback and fell back in love with it!!!! Smoooootthhh
Buttery smooth ☝🏻
I shot a Matthews once in chance of purchase but I got a diamond infinity instead. Big mistake, years later I finally found a Matthews Z7 and purchased it. The finest bow I've ever shot. It was like a 10 year itch that could never be relieved by any other bow.🙂
A bow technician said he had the same bow that I had. He stated that he sold it and regretted it terribly.
The Z7 is a classic, if I can find one, I’ll gladly scoop it up 🙌🏻
I’ve owned an Outback for about 6 years now and will never let it go. Never had a bow fit me so well. Love it!!!
Hold on to it man, they are like gold !
I bought my outback 13 years ago. It the only bow I've shot first time and new I was buying it. I'm never selling it.
I have had my switchback for 12 years, never owned another bow. I still love it!!
I'm 48 first bow I picked up 8 months ago 29inch sb xt restrung it with a zebra trophy string. took the crap parker quiver off it had mounted replaced it with a arrow web and added a 8 inch Mathews stabilizer bean fine tuning and dialing in last few days... Love this bow feels better than a new v2
Bought my XT July 2007 have not looked at a new compound bow in 13 yrs. Love it!
It’s not necessary right 🤷🏻♂️ the bow is almost more of an investment instead of a dead expense 🏹
I have the same bow and I can’t buy a newer one because this one is so nice! I love mine!
They are truly amazing 🔥👊🏻
I just bought one. Has always been a dream bow to me👍😎
I just put down a Mathews Lx and picked up a V3 31. After a week of shooting I grabbed the Lx (and I love the Lx) and shot it today... it felt like a kids toy. I may regret it but I’m giving it to a young fella soon as his first bow. Let him love it and love archery
I did the same exact with my lx
I have had my Mathews hyperlite since 2009 and I love it
your love for this bow, is how I feel about my DXT
You're a lucky man to have such a nice spell that is the best phone I think Matthew's ever made and the original solo cam in 1992 that was a good but I haven't at myself but I would love to have that switch back XT that's the bill they ought to bring back into service good going thank you
One of the best Mathews ever made
I still run this bow today
I still have the Mathews S2, which was basically the same bow released the following year.
still one of the smoothest bows I've ever shot.
Bowtech Constitution without a doubt! Only Bow tech I ever owned... but was my best shooter ever!
The Mathews Rival Pro was one of my favriots.. and insted of going out and trying to find one I kinda built a some what modern day one....
Took 2 brands I love and combined them... I am a fan of longer ATA bows so I took a 2010 Hoyt Vantage pro riser with 2003 XT2000 limbs and set it up with a Mathews Rival Pro cam... 42.75" ATA with a 7.75" brace height.... it shoots so smooth and the arrows are like darts.. just drop right on in... also tunes nice with any broad head..
I also liked the Q2XL and Icon as well
I have a switchback, and a EZ7. Both smooth as heck, and always on. Nothing ever moves.
It’s a good feeling! And a confidence booster 🔥
A bloody brilliant bow - thank god the conquest 4 is still in production
That is a bow that I want in my arsenal 💪🏻
My favorites are the Single Cam Matthews Bows - The Ultra Max and the FX. These are my favorites and I own three of each. In my opinion, these are the absolute best bows ever made. They are fast shooting, light weight and short in axle to axle length. With an overdraw and shortened arrow lengths, the are both, very fast and a dream to shoot. With proper add ons, they are also silent.
I disagree. I have the mathews fx, legacy and the outback. The legacy and outback is better in every way besides the fx being lighter
Sorry this isn't picking up too good what I was trying to say is that is the best bow Matthews ever made in my opinion so you're a lucky man I wish I could find one myself thank you
Switchback xt was my most accurate bow for me. Not sure you're only buying bells and whistles on bows now that don't shoot any better than older models.
I purchased my Switchback XT new in 2005 with 70 lb limbs. Big mistake. Bought some 60lb limbs and boy am I very satisfied. This is the best bow I have ever owned and it will be my only bow. Friends try to talk me into getting a newer more up to date bow but I will stick with my XT. You made a good choice. This bow IMO was the best bow that Mathews ever made. Enjoy.
Thanks a lot man! Stick with that machine ☝🏻
The 70lb limbs should adjust down to 60 and the 60lb limbs should adjust down to 50. So are u shooting less than 60lb?
I have a mathews S2. I think they switchback
Single cams are the best bows ever built
I shoot a bowtech now put my switchback is still my favorite.
Hanno, you made me laugh loud, because the Swichback xt was the bow I always regretted not to buy when it was in production, and I continued to keep an eye open to look for it till these days. If I'll be lucky and I'll be able find a lh model with a 28 1/2 Dl (those bows generally run 1/2" long), I' ll do like you did and I' ll jump on it !!
When they made the Triax, I thought it was another great bow like the Swichback xt, and, this time, I didn't make the same mistake.
Now it is my favourite bow, together with my Evoke 31..My next buy will probably be an Xpedite.
BTW, to answer to your question, I would like they bring back in production the 2005 Hoyt Lazertec.
Nothing really great about that entry level bow, but it was my first compound, and the one that started my addiction, so I would like to get one of those back too 👍!!
Ohh man, if I find a LH switchback here in SA, I will let you know right away 😂 I can even ship it to you 👌🏻.
The triax is a great bow, I shot the vxr 28, and I’m impressed with it. And the vxr and triax is basically the same thing 💪🏻
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery
Ahah, good news there 👍 let me know the poundage and, expecially, the DL of that Swichback, please!!
I now shoot 29", since I tried to keep my elbow straight, like you've told me to do, and I think you were right, as the tricep is no more involved and it seems I can stay more stable for longer time.
I think I've gained about 5 fps more too (I used to shoot 28 1/2).
Also, if you don't mind, let me also know the amount of money the vendor is asking for the bow, please..
Keep in mind I live in Italy, if you want I can give you my email address 👍!!
The VXR 28 and 31 1/2 are surely great bows (I' ve not tried one yet, at this moment), but, since they introduced the modules to change the poundage (I think it' s called "powershift technology", or something of this kind..) it looks like there is a lot of people that complains about the draw cycle, in comparition to the Triax and the Vertix...
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery Sorry for the previous reply, only now I' ve noticed you wrote "IF I find ... ecc", I thought you already knew were to get it, sorry 😞!!
Just got the Matthews lx god I love it
Subscribed. Just picked up one of these in great condition for $150 USD. I will be changing the cam to my 27.5” draw length and have a 29” cam taken off (will be for sale). Love this bow.
Wouldn’t happen to still have that 29 would you?
@@ryanfielder2057 yes I do. My user name on UA-cam @ gmail dot com is my email address
The Switchback is legendary!
Personally I have always been a fan of the PSE Mojo it was may dream bow when I was younger and I just found and bought one off Ebay, I'm 23 and couldn't find it anywhere until now.
Such a find makes you fee like a small kid again!
The one I would bring back is VERY similar to the Switchback XT, but it isn't that one. It is the Mathew's Z-Light. Made in 1996-1998. All the coolness and deadness with the smooth draw like the switchback, but, so much sweeter shooting. It is slick as a button, and I actually put down my Hoyt Eclipse to go to shooting the Z-Light one I found one in a pawn shop recently.
That’s way before my time of archery career, in fact, I’m born in the 1996 and would definitely be keen to give it a try!
My buddy has one for sale at $350. I'm probably going to get it. Of course had to check out UA-cam first 😁.
Just got my Dentro stabilizer in!!! MAN THIS THING IS AWESOME!!!
👏🏻 nice man, glad you like it as much as I do 😂 I have to apologize, it took a while 😬
Hanno De Klerk no apology needed! Things are a bit crazy all over the world right now and it still got here quicker than some items i ordered here in the U.S.! Great service! Great communication! Great product! You kick ass man!
You are welcome man💪🏻💪🏻 and thanks 🙏🏻
If you like the Switchback XT you will love the Chill X. My son has my XT so it’s still in the family.
I have this same bow, all dressed up and shoots super smooth. It's not a fast bow, but ultra quiet and VERY forgiving. I'll never part with it.
I'm a bit late to the party, but this helped a bit. I'm currently tuning up my own switchback because I've been holly unimpressed with my local shops. I wanted to ask, did you end up shooting through paper again with your back bar on? The last time I tuned her up, I had perfect bullet holes with my stabilizers, but once I threw them on, I was getting low nock left tears. Did you have this issue at all?
I bought my Switchback XT brand new in 2006 and it remains my primary hunting bow to this day.. I've heard people say, "what's so special about the XT?" I say find one, shoot it and see for yourself.
im ordering my first mathews bow ever its a mathews fx and found if for 195$ including shipping cheapest mathews i found on ebay the switchbacks are still 300$ just like you i always wanted one when i was a kid it was all the hype in magazines and hunting shows i cant wait till thursday night to order it its not the newest or fasted mathews but im fulling a dream
The Legacy too
Mq32 is my go to bow!
No matter how advanced the bow, you still need to aim in the middel and keep it steady 🤙🏻 the MQ32 is rock solid
I did have a Switchback XT back in the day, but with my short draw length (25”) and the long brace height of the XT (7.5”) I was left with the loss of speed and penetration from the short 17.5” power stroke. I opted for the Drenalin and then the Z7 and haven’t looked back. The XT is a good bow, but if you have a short draw like me take into consideration the brace and power stroke.
The Z7 is a really good bow. Have you shot with the magnum before?
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery No, but always wanted to try it. I now hunt with the Halon 6, good speed at my draw length, accurate, good penetration with a 420 grain arrow.
I had the Switchback X.T. with my 30in draw didnt work too sharp of string angle which led to inconsistant form. Everything else was Awesome great bow for 28.5 n under I.M.H.O. I have a Custom made Mathews Legacy now with my favorite specs 34 A.T.A. n 7.5 in. brace! Sweet Bow!! I used 2 be Mathews only but i changed and love my Elite Ritual 35, n Bowtech Insanity CPXL Black Ops as well.. 👍🏹
Monster was a cool bow I like my helim don't think I'll ever get rid of it but might finally go to a vx3 it's time.
Astro Dominator XL from the early 90s, best shooting indoor bow I ever owned.
Alpine Roxstar. One of the best how's ever made right next to my switchback xt.
Great video. I hunt with a switchback which is almost 15 years old now. Have actually bought 3 other bows in that time, custom specs and all, and still shoot my switchback. Ha
Last o the soloslams lol miss my old Hoyt Reflex I built up
You should try out a Mathews LX. I own one and (except for the weight of the bow) absolutely love it !! (Of course, I own 4 other Mathews bows as well !!)
Absolutely would love that, If I can get my hands on one, it would go down immediately 💪🏻
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery Check out Ebay, I see them listed there from time to time, and often for pretty good prices.
We’re in South Africa 😂 I’m going to have a hard time finding one, but hopefully I’m headed for the US soon 😉
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery That's the great thing about living in the U.S., you can get almost anything you want here. I bought my LX from a private local seller through a classified web buying/selling site, but I have seen ( and bought) other bows from ebay, some of which were even from pawn shops on Ebay.
I currently own 5 Mathews bows (including one I bought for my wife). Yes, they have some age to them, but I love them all !!
I don't know what the postal restrictions are where you're at, but Ebay is definitely the place to start looking for archery bows and equipment. I've gotten a lot of great deals from there !!
Mathews traverse and the Matthews drenaline but reimagined with split limbs and at 33 or 34 ata with double cams
I've got a Matthews Mustang. I really enjoy this bowl. I recently had it restrung and I love it. Why would I upgrade?
the one bow they need to put back into production is the MATHEWS Z7 !!!!!! I WILL ALWAYS KEEP AND USE THIS BOW !!!
I recently bought a Black Max II for $100 at pawn. It needs a little love but it’s still a tac driver.
Oh absolutely, that’s a gem in the rough!
I’ve got a switchback as my “backup” bow. Just can’t bring myself to get rid of it… bought the VXR in 2020
Had the switchback since 2006. Still using today. Killed many deee with it and I don’t care to own a new bow
Man, I felt the same about that bow. If it had a 10fps extra in the bank, I would’ve kept it. The VXR feels like to “new switchback” to me 🤷🏻♂️
Mathews Z7, totally awesome.
I never owned one but a bow that WoW-ed me and in my opinion was discontinued way to early was the Bowtech Destroyer 340. Bowtech should bring it back, but with 32" DL (for me) ;-)
I had one, it was a good bow, I expecially liked the overdrive binary cams, that, at the time, was probably the most advanced cam system available, from a tuning point of view it was great!!
Unfortunately some owners reported problems with the limbs "exploding", but I was lucky in this reguard, maybe because mine was a 60 # bow, I don' t know..
They were selling like hot cakes back in the day 👌🏻
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery yeah, I found one used for a good price, I would had preferred a Destroyer 350, but the 340 was the one I found... Later I changed it with a (used) Hoyt Carbon Spyder Turbo that I still own, another great bow, IMHO 👍!!
Mathews switchback xt may be the best bow ever, but my traverse easily outperforms it as it should. Traverse is their best of the newer generations.
I’m gonna end this vid to a friend that had the Switchback... I remember him drooling over that bow. He was a staff shooter and kept moving on to the next, but I’m almost certain what his choice would be.
😂😂 hé should comment and let me know if he can get mathews to put this in production again. 🏹
Ross cardiac. Best bow ever
Hoyt viper I loved that bow so much now my uncle has it and won’t let go of it worst decision I ever made
😂😂 that sucks man, I hope you can find another one!
I would take the Drenalin new today if they had a new one somewhere to be had
If i were to being back any bow...it would be the original matthews design the MacPherson intercam
I have an MQ1 from a WHILE ago. Can I swap out the cams for "newer" cams? Or updated technology?
Hey man, I believe not. The cams flexes the limbs to an optimal point to generate the energy. Putting on new cams will mess with the deflection and possibly over flex and break it.
The draw cycle will feel weird as well. It’s pretty much a fixed system.
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery gotcha i don't know much about bow technology. Thanks for clearing that up
Chupa Cabrah no worries man, anytime 💪🏻
I’ve got a 22 year old Mathews solo cam LX and wouldn’t trade it for anything
Mathews Helim👌
Awesome bows 🏹
Bowtech Patriot Dually (2004) Sad day when I sold it when in the Army.
Man it sucks, I hope you can track one down 💪🏻
Well I have that PSE EVO NXT 31 in 80lbs on order. I'll start there.
You are going to love it 🏹 especially with the new stabs 👌🏻
Really exciting to get my hands on those Pro's you sent. Thanks again for that surprise.
Elite aigil bow
Still shooting my Switchback XT!
Bowtech Admiral
I own a SBXT. Waiting on a better bow to be made.
😂😂 I cannot guarantee a short wait my friend
I like the Z7 better, I got an XT on craigslist the other day for 250 bucks. super clean, hardly used.
The z7 series are definitely more advanced. My dad used to own the z7 magnum and he now wants it back 😂
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery I've owned and hunted with a lot of bows over the past 25 years, The Z7 in my opinion is the best hunting bow ever made.
I have two..
#1 Mathews Drenalin
#1b Mathews Switchback XT
What sight is that?
Switchback XT and a Z7. Why would you need anything more?
😂 I just love bows man!
Did you notice a difference running 2 stabilizers?
Absolutely, the bow is a lot better balanced thus it aims better and I can pull off a lot better shots with higher consistency. The additional weights also makes the pin float vanish to some extent
My first Bow!! Switchback XT!!!
My Switchback all day long
But my Triax and VXR and now the V3 blow the switchback out of the water
I’m about to try the V3 soon, looking forward to it 🤙🏻
Pse X Force LD(long draw) with the GX or HF cams. This is my "white buffalo". If anybody has one for sale, I would diffently be interested in it.
Bowtech Tribute
Mathews Chill X pro 👀
Hmmmm 😏🧐
So how are you liking the bow so far?
The Switcback series is great bows. I have too many plans and not enough money, I sold it, bought the trx, sold the trx and bought a VXR 😂 it’s a bumpy ride, but I got where I wanted to be
@@HannoDeKlerkArchery Hi I have the Switchback xt and still have my Legacy. I will probably get the vxr next. But the XT is an awesome bow. I have had for 14 years. Good luck with the VXR.
You’ll love the VXR man 💪🏻💪🏻 nothing wrong with this golden oldies 👌🏻
The Z7 is the best bow ever made
Mathews Black Max 2
Bear tiger cat takedown recurve. 45 pounds. With long riser made a 63'inch recurve. Pros it was boltless design. And you could change the grip. either low wrist. Medium wrist or high wrist. It had holes for quiver. And a slot in the riser if you like pin sites. Good bow cost back in 1977 was about 100.00 USA dollars. Anybody got one and wants to get rid of it let me know.
Keep this guy in the loop 🤞🏻
Ive shot bear archery bows my whole life.im 42 yrs old now & shoot a bear still.i just got offered a switchback fully dressed for $250.00. I cant pass it up.very clean bow.i have not shot it yet but from what my friends say i will be switching from bear to mathews.well see!
Jump on it man! You won’t regret it, ever 💪🏻🔥
Let me know what you think of it once you’ve shot it?
I first started shooting bear bows but when I picked up the Mathews switchback xt I instantly switched but that’s me I’d like to know what you thought about the Mathews
@@dillonmitchell9249 i like it.its a older bow for sure but smoothe draw cycle & very acurate & quiet.im not looking for a show off bow.i was wanting a good reliable hunting bow & it is that.i had to change the cam on it because the draw lenght was too long.i dont lime the fact that the lenght is not adjustable but ive got it set up now.i realy enjoy shooting it this past 2 weeks.im going hunting this morning with it.but overall im glad i bought it
Yeah that’s the only thing I don’t Like about the switchback
Elite Hunter
Those left tears were a huge issue for me with Mathews Single Cam bows. I could not tune them out.
I definitely wouldn’t trade todays cam systems for a single cam but it would be cool to see the long riser and wide limbs with a single cam. I know Mathews would sell a ton of them.
Bear archery Carnage
Bring back Parker’s
Mathews Drenalin
Sweet bow, I have a bunch of friends who still run those 💪🏻
I still have my Drenalin, love that bow!!
Put a cool hand luke string stop on it and it turns I to a whole new animal
Z7 and z7x
Mathew’s drenalin ld
I had one of those, camo riser with black limbs 🤌🏻 it was my first target bow 🏹
