Got my switchback in 07’ still shooting it till this day. Never had a reason to upgrade. Constant killing piece of equipment. Glad you put this video out. I have taken several deer with my switchback and it’s really cool too bring back the old bow
My first bow, and only bow (purchased second hand 2yrs ago) is a Mathews Outback. I learnt on this bow, and now hunt with this bow. It’s been fantastic👍 Had a major splinter in the top limb, as round as my little finger. I wrote to Mathews to see if I could purchase new limbs and even though I’m not the original owner, and the bow is about 20yrs old, they shipped replacement limbs to Australia at no cost to me, not even for the freight. I’ve never heard of service like that before, thank you Mathews👍 I’ve looked for more information about the “Outback” but it has been hard to find. I’m curious about the differences between the Outback, Switchback, and XT as they look very similar to me. Thanks from Australia for another great vid Levi. Best wishes Peter👍🏹
Thank you Levi 🙏 that’s my first bow bought two years ago and I love to shoot now. I’m old school old guy lol really appreciate you validating my choice of bow, or the bow gifted me by the most wonderful archery shop in the world. Shout out to Riverside Archery Mt Vernon WA🙏👍😎
Awesome way to do it. You should bring it out every year on one of your hunts. I have a 2006 PSE Fire 🔥 Flite 33 that I got while working at Cabela’s back in 06. I need to make her a killer next year. Sadly 16 years and she never tasted blood 🩸 but missed three times in one year but that’s on me. I wanted a Switchback back in the day but couldn’t afford it. Congratulations on a cool 😎 7 point buck 🦌
Very nice video Levi! You and Chris Bee are the UA-cam Goats… My first mathews was a switch back….so great and it started my journey with mathews bows to the point I now own a V3X….great bows and a great company… Thanks for doing a video like this! Thumbs way up bud
When those Switchbacks came out a lot of my friends were getting. I almost bought one but decided I could afford at the time. Now I have wanted to add one to my collection of old vintage bows. Thanks for sharing.
Hunted with my old switchback until 2 seasons ago. Still have it. Still love it. Switched to a Vertix 2 years ago and love it. Seriously leaning towards getting a Lift now. Mathews for life!!!
The coolest thing about this video is watching you go back in time with the bow and still shoot dimes. Just goes to show if you put in the work anything is accurate. Doesn’t matter if it’s a slider or fixed pin… hinge, thumb, or wrist strap…. Drop away or a biscuit….. the shooter and the work they put in is what matters! Good work! Congrats on the Deer!
Not knocking Levi, but he bought old school setup, then changed the rest and sight to modern stuff. So that's not debunking anything. Plus guys kill deer with Longbows, any compound is gonna kill a deer.
Ya you don’t need it but you don’t need a Ferrari to drive either I used my 2009 diamond black ice until the beginning of 23’ killed 4+ deer a year with it it works no doubt But I bought the Mathew’s phase 4 this year and man it’s sweet smooth fast and quite but they all work as long as you practice and can shoot
My local bow shop tells all the time that I'm "such a old schooler" I still shoot my 1999 feather light with a 2000 Zmax cam installed . Shoots about 245fps ,slow yes, but the energy it produces ... I hunt with my 2009 Drenalin, which is still amazing bow to this day . I can buy any bow I wish, but why ? 100g thunder heads ( yep old school again ) and a Mathew bow puts them down every year . Great video!!!
I had an original Switchback. Last wheel bow I owned before going trad-only. Agreed...one if the best bows Mathews ever made! Enjoyed the over-the-shoulder. Well done.
This brings back a lot of memories! Started with the MQ1, then the LX, then the Creed XS, then the Halon 6, then the Triax, and lastly the V3X. While I love all my bows, my all time favorite is the Triax. Light weight, short, and fast, 61 deer and 4 bears so far since I bought it new at the Ohio deer and gun expo in 2018. Mathews is a top notch company and they take great pride in everything they make. My hunting buddy still shoots his DXT and kills the crap out of them each year. Great video Levi.
Levi, the key to winning bids often on eBay is to never show your bid until 6-8 seconds before bid end. i.e.(click in) make your highest bid right at the T minus 6-8 seconds mark. Then no one has a chance to see it. I use to shoot PSE before my Mathews V3 and 8-12 months after a new bow release, I could purchase a new PSE for about half of list price. I remember buying a brand new PSE Xpidite while I was driving to my hunting property in Texas one time. Bored on the freeway, I checked for new PSE bows and saw this bow has an hour left and price was at about $350. So I set my alarm and when it went off, pulled off the freeway with 3 minutes left to bid, saw the price was still under $400 and couldn't believe it so I sat there with my top bid of $450 ready to submit right before the 5 second mark. Killed a deer with it that year and sold it 6 months later for $550. Thanks for sharing the hunt.
@@gordonneverdies I love the older bows but the new ones blow the old ones out of the water man it’s unreal, I shoot a older bow but the old ones can’t even come close to touching the new ones
@@jordanhudson5075 Thanks. I'll have to upgrade soon. I was thinking of getting a newer Mathews. New enough to be really good but not as expensive as the P4 or Lift.
I killed my biggest eight pointer five years ago with a vintage PSE fire flight, I’ve been thinking about getting an old Matthews Z7 next. It’s fun getting out the old equipment every now and then.
My dad used this bow from release (2007) until 2022 and took his last bull elk in September 22 with it before hanging it up for a new Hoyt. Replaced the strings 1 time. These bows are just excellent and still 100% capable.
Prob one of my favorite vids so far! Love the old school tactic and all the bucks working that scrape. Most archers would kill to shoot a modern bow half as good as you shot that OG Switchback! Sick vid as always boys🤘🏹🦌
Been using a switchback XT since they first came out. No need for another set-up! Fantastic bow .... I'm using old but great gear. I tune old school, build my arrows old school, use fixed blades so sharp you shave with them and I've never known it was a "this thing" as mentioned in the video, 😄! It's never let me down, other than replacing limbs once.
Thanks Levi, You helped me figure out what I'm doing wrong hunting whitetails. I need to stop buying new equipment every year. Congrats on the buck and that was a really cool video
Took a doe this past weekend with my Switchback XT. Hadn't sighted it in for 4 years and the thing still shot like a champ. Just ordered a new bow string cause I don't think I need to upgrade for what I'm wanting to do. Great video, keep up the good work!
This is great. My brother alway used Mathews last new bow he got was the switchback xt. He passed away in 2019 I h e it hanging up. Looked for a 28” cam couldn’t find one. I was gonna use it but worried I’d brake it. He took many deer with that bow. Great video Levi thank you sir!
What a great video! The Switchback will always get the job done. I bought the XT brand new in 2006 and I still hunt with it to this day. The newer bows are nice but nothing has ever been nice enough to convince me to retire the XT.
I had the outback. Killed my biggest buck to date with it. Wished I would've kept. Great work Levi! Proved you could still get it done with a good old bow.
I like how this is a headline for a video like this is something amazing like I don’t still hunt with a switchback XT 😂 along with probably thousands of other people
Ya know my Mathews dealer told me not long ago, that they absolutely nailed it with the Switchback. And they've been essentially expanding on that design since then.
The Switchback is the bow I envied as a teenager but could never afford. I’ve been hunting with an old Parker Hunter Mag for the last 12 or 13 years. Slow as crap, buzzy as all get out, but it’s gotten the job done. Nicely done video!
Love this vid! I did the same thing this year: put together a “throwback” Switchback XT setup. Killed my biggest bow buck and second biggest ever on 12/3. Great stuff guys!
I guess I take this for granted.. I never fell into thinking you need all this stuff. I started bow hunting in 89 and just never bought into All the new stuff As long as the bow is in good shape your good to go
The Switchback days were good days! I remember my dad and his buddies saying "I have no idea how they could improve a bow at this point" when they bought one.
The BEST part about this video is the buck rutting action! I shoot a 2016 Mathews Z2 (last of the Z7's) with the O.G. GeoGrid riser, Magnum cams and SE5 limbs. She still shoots dimes. I keep thinking I'm going to upgrade to a Mathews flagship, but when I take my old bow and check it to see how she's shooting before I put her on the market and she still keeps shooting right, the same thing happens every year and I say to myself..."Maybe next season." 😂

Great vid Levi!! I’m still shooting my Heli-M from 2013. It’s a great bow, fast, quiet and accurate! Keep putting out this good content. Was curious about what broadhead you used on this hunt? Swackers?
Got into archery 4 years ago and started shooting on a Mathew’s Outback, the model before the switchback. I’ve killed 3 deer with it. Upgrading to a Hoyt RX8 Ultra bc of the slightly longer AtA and smoother draw cycle. Plus it’s a carbon which is cool
2005-08 Switchback was 33" ATA, 318 fps, 7" brace height, & 4 pounds. MSRP was $795. MIssion line up today is 300 fps, 305 fps, & 324 fps. There's not much about this Switchback set up that I would consider that old.
Seriously, archers haven't been able to outshoot stock bows since the mid 2000's when pivoting limb pockets and cnc machining became mainstream. Unfortunately i'm old enough to remember having to shim limbs in the pockets to have consistent accuracy. Quality control and tight tolerances have allowed companies to make all bows crazy accurate, and as long as you can tune your bow to perform for you your golden with whatever you feel like shooting.

Levi just debunked the whole archery industry. You don't need a 2500 dollar setup to kill deer. He just proved it.
This is America! We don't buy everything we need at the best price! Hogwash!! We buy what we want 🤑

Are you kidding me? You realize people have been killing deer with trad bows and long bows for years right? Levi didn’t debunk anything. Settle down

Very cool to see an old school hunt. Had a switchback. Great bow
I'm still slinging arrows with my switchback xt,and still love it,qyite as hell but lil slower than most but just aim lil low lol, great video
I shot a Switchback XT for nearly twenty years and killed more deer with it than most people kill in a lifetime with a gun. When something works it hard to imagine a deer being anymore dead, even with a higher end bow. I never used cameras, bait, rangefinders, or any other devices that gave me more of an advantage than I already had. I enjoyed the challenge of beating a deer (buck or doe) at their own game and found my harvests to be much more satisfying as a result of such. Alright, ok. Love old school! Lets see what u can do with a recurve Mr. Morgan. Keep up the good work

I bought a Mathews Heli-m a few years ago and it has been an absolute deer slayer I wish they would make one as light today.
Should have put the three split peep on it. That we were using at the time. And we had string leaches then also. Great video. Thanks!
Awesome job Levi that was a great video and sweet buck and Merry Christmas!🦌🇺🇸🏹🎄🎅
Levi... great stuff... hi,ya!!! ...I love it. You made me laugh so hard with the explanation of the wrist rocket shot.
Congrats on a very cool deal. Love the content. May the Lord bless you and yours this holiday season

Have a good Christmas Levi. I love your budget gear videos mate.
Loved it! Thanks for doing it and for sharing it!
The way the buck ate that and just stood there for a few moments was cool.
Epic video, thanks for making it and sharing it. What’s next, switchback at a 3D competition??
Still shooting my xt. Blew through an eight at 17 yards. Great bow. Thanks for the content.

Great video! That was cool going retro! Dandy buck! Congrats!
My first Mathews was a ‘95 SoloCam, upgraded to a SwitchBack XT ….. thinks it’s time for a Lift! 🏹
Another kickass video and hunt dudes. Keep it up 💪
Great vid Levi!! I’m still shooting my Heli-M from 2013. It’s a great bow, fast, quiet and accurate! Keep putting out this good content. Was curious about what broadhead you used on this hunt? Swackers?

Man, I feel really old if this is "old school". I killed my first deer with a Bear whitetail back in the 80s. Cool video!
1978. bear whitetail we r not old . Just seasoned
I still have my SwItchback XT that I bought in ‘06. Love it
2005-08 Switchback was 33" ATA, 318 fps, 7" brace height, & 4 pounds. MSRP was $795. MIssion line up today is 300 fps, 305 fps, & 324 fps. There's not much about this Switchback set up that I would consider that old.
You should designate a hunt each year to break out the Switchback
When you mention changing your vane configuration, could you describe how the changes you made fixed the flight you were seeing? Merry Christmas!
I still have my old switchback. First bow I ever bought with my own money
IMO, best Mathews bow ever sold.
It was a great bow for its time but that’s a ridiculous statement
Man you have soo0 hit the nail on the head.....nice job on the shot well done !!!
I loved that bow, wish i still had it, but i do still have my little DXT, love that little bow❤
I thought I was the only person that would put war paint on my caps to camouflage them better! haha Nice.
Best Mathews bow ever made
