@@xanderomeister7828 hurricane Andrew blew that facility away and released upwards of 900 baby Burmese pythons. Unfortunately, Florida is a very good place for them to live and breed
Florida already has a lot of restriction on how people are supposed to keep certain species. Those who have permits to keep certain non-native species must be able to contain and secure the animals during a hurricane (one of the main reasons why Burms got loose to begin with is because they weren't kept secure enough and their enclosure broke during a massive hurricane). Because of past events, keepers must be able to safely and securely contain their non-native species year-round, but also doubly so in the event of a hurricane. Tegus and Iguanas should be placed as conditional species much like burms and other reptiles and the same restriction for keeping them would apply. It is really difficult to track every keeper and punish those who decide to release their animals into the wild. Without proof, it is hard to punish stupid. Just like it is hard to catch people who decide to release goldfish into a wild body of water. A lot of it comes down to education as well. But you will always have people who just don't care about their impact on their environment. They can track those who have permits (they do routine inspections on how they're keeping their animals, and they must provide a paper trail of who they have sold and/or given certain animals to), but people will still own them illegally.

It's upsetting and disappointing that these bans will hurt responsible keepers, not only in Florida but in other states where bans like this are being brought about. I hope the case can be won and allow people to continue to own and work with the species they are considering banning. Also, would love to see Kenan eventually expand and open a public reptile sanctuary for the public to interact and learn more about the amazing variety of reptiles and amphibians that exist.
What I did with my 20 year old 18 foot albino burmese was have two entries into her enclosure. One I only opened when I fed her, and the other one I used for cleaning her enclosure or to take her out. It was amazing how night and day her attitude/cage aggression would be depending on what door I opened. She knew. And I never had to deal with a grumpy snake if I used the right door. Love the videos!!
