Welcome to the fight! I have been in this battle for many years. It started in Ohio for me and we lost there and I was forced to move to SC to continue my work. I only work with rare venomous snakes and study venom composition and captive breed for different labs but it does not make a difference to the law makers. We here at Venomcentral will do everything we can to help. I will talk about this in my next video and ask my venomsquad to donate. Good luck brother , if there is anything I can do for you please reach out. Willy Venomcentral

I’m concerned that a lot of people may decide to release their animals rather than kill it, making more environmental issues. This is irresponsible of the people who rushed the legalisation without incorporating the best interests of both the animals and people who own them. I’m not a reptile keeper but I benefit from the education about them and get to enjoy them nonetheless. I really hope the rules get amended for the better. Best wishes from 🇦🇺
I can 100% grantee you that many animals who would have never been released will be in my case if i lived in Florida id keep my animal anyway put if it was kill or free i get why people free there pets i get why Its wrong and you shouldn't but i also get why people who are to scared to get caught with a illegal animal would let them go
A little example from you native Australia. The furthest south on the East coast that you will find freshwater crocodile is in the Ross river in Townsville Queensland. They weren't there before the Queensland government banned the private keeping of the species.
@@kfc3930 But at the same time, there is a huge possiblity that someone will kill it when it's in the Wild. So either way, it's gonna die whether the Owner does it or someone else. It's much easier(morality wise) of finding a way of keeping it illegally. Sure you can try to see if a Zoo or somewhere with the right paper qualifications, but a lot of people probably wouldn't know how to start the process.
This rule change will cause more people to release their animals into Florida’s wild as people won’t want to kill or surrender their much loved animals. I understand that they are trying to curb the problem of invasive species but this rule change will only make things worse. This will make conservation more difficult, more invasive are gonna end up in Florida’s wild and it’s the start of every pet being banned or illegal. I feel for you all and I hope you can stop this from progressing and can reverse this. Good luck with it all.
Any keeper that releases their exotic pet into the wild never deserved to own one in the first place. Keepers like the ones you are describing are the reason laws like this exist in the first place, and only give further ammo to the legislators.
@@airick4038 That is a good point too but at the same time though some good keepers will because they now have a moral choice of letting it live (by letting it go or "smuggling" it out of state to someone) or killing it. Which are both morally shitty decisions over a piece of paper really. I think alot won't be able to handle killing them.
I don't live in Florida and I'm not a reptile keeper(although I would love to be) but I donated and wrote an email. I love watching you, Chandler,Tyler,Blake,Joey, and others and your deep devoted love for these animals. It is truly inspiring.
I've learned more about animals watching these types of videos then I learned going to any zoo. My children have learned more about care for their animals through these videos. Its bull with what they are doing
I am a homeschool mother I never comment but I support you on Patreon. I have been using your channel for education for 5 years now. It would break my kids' heart to have to see you lose buttercup. I sent an email to the FL game and fish, and donated. Breaks my heart for you Kenan.
Kenan, USARK can bring a lawsuit, in Buttercup's name, against the state of florida for deprivation of its constitutionally protected right to life. They cannot order you to execute an animal when that animal hasn't done anything wrong and has been living a law-abiding and productive life for at least 6 or 7 years. They have to take you to court in order for them to legally order the destruction of a dangerous dog. This law infringes on your constitutional rights to due process, my brother. You can even make it a class action lawsuit. The whole process is unconstitutional. Anyway, I've seen where an animal was allowed "personhood" in a court so it should be able to extend to these animals as well. Buttercup (et. al) vs. State of Florida! Let's see it!
Not to mention there are breeders who have sucessfully managed to breed endangered species in captivity for the *first time.* It would *devestating* if those animals had to be culled 😫 (not always possibe to re-home and to surrender often means they'll end up being put to sleep....as Kenan said)
As a biologist student, I have learned so much from your channel, about different species and make notes of information I really want to remember. The 21st century is very in tune with social media and networking. This is a great way for everyone learn about animals and respect them more. Hopefully fish and game will truly see the impact UA-cam has on educational learning.
It's an interesting idea, the FWC doesn't seem to know what to make of these new laws but it falls to them to decide how to enforce, with Covid-19 keeping actual zoos closed this may be a work around that falls into an acceptable category.
Public legally usually implies that its able for Public Use in the sense that people have the liberty to go and "use" whatever commodity it happens to be. In this sense, its likely public use would amount to being able to visit the animal, something that a livestream could not suffice.
It really burns me when politicians make policies on things they have very little to no knowledge on. I'm fully aware Florida has a problem with invasive species. When I lived there 20years ago I saw plenty of animals that didn't belong in the wilds of Florida. And I understand the intent of policies makers is to limit these animals, but guys like you that have shown that you are responsible to have and keep these animals should have immunity. You've already demonstrated that you are willing to follow the guidelines and rules, obtain the proper permits to keep exotic animals, and use them for educational and entertainment purposes, with no detrimental outcomes to the ecology or the animals. I'm fully in your corner and pray for the best.
oh no, not Princess Butterbutt!! You take such good care of her!! This is so sad. Headed to the sites you talked about. As a teacher during COVID, I have used your videos for my students in NJ. Edit: just hit their Twitter and fb accounts. I am also reaching out to my fellow educators as well to rally the troops.
Think about the beginning of kenans video during the intro (education and conservation) I am as old as kenan, and when I started gaining knowledge and information about these animals you had to read books, talk in person to people while that’s all fine...everyone knows how quick that information can change new discoveries better techniques of keeping however we had to wait until the information was published which trust me took a long time. But with UA-cam you actually get to see the evolution of information immediately which is a giant deal to anyone keeping any kind of exotic species without these guys much will be lost and conservation husbandry and overall knowledge of these animals. I can’t thank you guys enough. For I am only one person but with my voice I will do the best to help all of you guys in Florida the most I can much love guys keep your chin up and will do all we can do. Anthony Arnold-Texas

More than proud to support people like Kenan and Chandler, they're an integral part to the reptile community in not just Florida but around the world. thank you for your tireless and amazing work, sending love from Canada!
Bull. Nobody is walking around the zoo during the pandemic. I am watching from Barbados. You have people viewing from all over the world. Fight this thing, man. Good luck.
I am a FL resident and I Donated. And also added comments on Myfwc.gov encouraging them to include UA-camrs such as yourself as educators. Thanks for all you have taught me about reptiles Kenan.
Exactly it puts people who love their pets in a position of “oh, I can either kill my emotional investment, or release it to be freeeee and have a hope in the wild.
If you can't keep her, please contact Snake Discovery! They're another UA-cam channel. They take in animals sometimes, and they really care about their reptiles!
I can see why Florida is doing this, but they absolutely need to make provisions for responsible owners. Maybe do what other places do for exotic birds and have an annual inspection of their enclosures and the animals? I hope you can find a way Kenan!
I understand why Florida would need to ban species that have become such a problem with being invasive. But they totally blindsided everyone from what I understand. They should allow people that can care for animals properly to be grandfathered. You have Buttercup in a locked double doored building. It's a really bad situation. I am so sorry that you are having this as a possibility Kenan.
I agree wholeheartedly with this comment. Cause people have invested so much time, education and conservation with these animals. The ones that aren't mature enough to handle the animals, should not have them at all. You need to have to right training, licenses to have them. The ones that actual bring education to these amazing animals should automatically grandfathered in the system.
@@meghanoconnor2468 did you even watch the video? He explains exactly why the grandfathering laws don't apply to/help him now and as Chandler said about his anacondas once the animals that are grandfathered in die of old age they can no longer get any more meaning they can no longer educate on these animals whilst having them there with them.
Meghan they have removed the conditional species from the grandfathering part of the law so he is not grandfathered in. So it’s not click bait. You should probably educate yourself.
Awesome to see you and Chandler in a video together! I commented that on buttercup's setup video suggesting a collab which you replied to so that made me happy. That being said, this whole situation with the new law is very unfortunate. Heading to that website to donate right now
Ninety days is ridiculous! Any law like this should have at least a year before being fully enforced. The way all related parties can be fully informed and make the needed changes once the logistics are hammered out.
This isn't about the related parties. It's about pushing weight around and showing who's boss. The more we accept and stay silent about the more we will get pushed around.
I respect and appreciate what both you and Chandler do so much, I live in Australia but I'm on board to help you both as much as you can. I have a serious mental health illness and both your channels make me so happy, I love animals and you guys!
I don’t know the last time I went to a zoo or learned anything about animals in school. I’ve learned so much about reptiles and different animals just from what you say in your videos. I currently live in Florida and I can tell you, some of the laws being passed rn are just insane. I hope it gets sorted out
"Hey, how about we just ban drug dealers in Florida". That's how insane this sounds to me. From my understanding there was already a licence needed for them, so what is the problem? I have learned so much from your videos and other peoples' too. My education and viewing of many animals is through my computer laying down on my bed. I rarely go to a zoo, yet I know about many different species of animals that I would need to go to multiple zoos to find them all.
I hope they can fight for an ammendment to the grandfather clause that allows these prohibited animals, on the condition of a private inspection of the enclosure for those keepers that formally went through all the legal processes and permits required to keep them. Specifically, I would hope private facilities like Kenan's, would be granted permissions based on their ongoing work with with conservation organizations. I don't think the fight to allow them to breed the animals in the future will be accepted, but a compromise of being able to keep the animals in a regulated size habitat, subject to inspections and yearly permit updates could be possible. Although much more difficult to accomplish for snakes, maybe a proposal of private facilities sterilizing the animals to avoid any future breeding could be possible. Best of luck Kenan. You've done such incredible work with education and giving your animals the best homes you can. Hate to see you lose any :(
I think this is reasonable and should be allowed. It's sad that Florida has had such an issue with this but threatening people like this just makes it worse. Because then those who don't really care will just turn their animals lose.
I’m so sorry this is happening. I have learned so much from your channel! I have learned 100x more from your channel than I ever have from zoos. And I used to be a zoo keeper! Let me tell ya, (from my experience) most zoos don’t have a clue when it comes to properly keeping tortoises and turtles. I can’t tell you how much of the information I gathered from your channel and used it to improve living conditions for tortoises at the zoos I worked at. Your channel is so valuable, even for zoo keepers! I no longer work as a zoo keeper (career change) but have missed working with some of the critters. So my husband and I decided to create a leopard tortoise habitat in our backyard to house a couple of rescues. I have basically used your channel for ALL of our building concepts. I firmly believe that small (responsible) collectors and breeders, like yourself, who specializes in a particular group of animals, have more and better knowledge of their husbandry/breeding than any institution. We need people like you to continue your work with commonly kept species as well as endangered so we (the public) can continue to learn. Zoos just suck at doing in depth education, especially as in depth as your channel. If I have a question about reptiles, or need to find a build, I can just reference your channel and find what I’m looking for from the comfort of my home. Quick, easy, accurate and updated information I can use for the husbandry of my own animals. What zoo can do that!? Take that Florida Fish and Game!

This is concerning I don’t live in Florida but it worries me that people who may not be responsible and do not want to kill or surrender their animals will release them into the wild and cause a new wave of invasive species. Why change a law so suddenly if you haven’t gotten to understand those responsible owners! Keep us updated please and if anyone else on here knows of petitions link them! I can see the hurt in their eyes of the thought of euthanizing their animals !
I hated snakes before I started watching Tyler and Chandler. Then it went to others, but the point is I learned so much and I really like them now. I don't want one, but I totally appreciate their beauty. Would possibly a letter writing campaign or petition to our Florida congressman, senators and governor help too?

Kenan and Chandler, I just became a bronze member. I hope this helps. My heart hurts for you two, Tyler Nolan and all the others who’s channels have taught me so much about wildlife from all over the world. Love you guys!!!
I’m not giving up my reptile sorry. It’s tough that they’re putting people in these “should I kill it or release it in the wild” situations. Sorry but my snake isn’t going anywhere
Hearing Chandler and you talk about these new laws is just heartbreaking. I can see why Florida officials see it as a good idea on paper--invasive species down there is a HUGE problem--but not allowing seasoned and vetted professionals to keep these animals is awful. UA-cam via this channel, Chandler's or others like Snake Discovery has been KEY in educating the public about snakes and lizards. They teach how to respect animals that tend to be universally feared for little to no reason in a way that keeps the animals and the handlers safe. They're so important to younger viewers, too, who may grow up one day hoping to care for these animals professionally. The specifics of this law need to change to allow responsible owners to continue keeping animals in a responsible way.
Would letters or emails from across the states/globe help to prove that you are a virtual zoo/educational facility. Especially with the covid-19 quarantine many people couldn’t go to physical zoos. My 2 year old loves to see the animals when I watch yours and other animal videos. This is like the Pitbull ban, people who had dogs from puppies had to find homes or their pets would be seized and euthanized. This is going to cause a larger problem with nuisance animals in the wild because those that try to find homes and can’t, will release animals into the wild instead of euthanasia
I’m so tired of these laws they keep trying (sneakily) to pass with no or false information based on the rulings and with most times no time to challenge the rulings. I try to always donate to USARK every year.
With everything that's going on with Covid and public places being hit so hard they should consider you views as people walking through your yard Kenan. It's always a tour and people are donating. Basically it is open to the public. Just covid friendly. Run with that brother!
Just donated. As someone who is incapable of owning all of these amazing creatures, I have such appreciation to all of the educators on UA-cam who truly care about their animals and share them with me. I know they are not my animals, but I still care about them and feel a connection to them as if they were. These laws are unjust to the keepers and it infuriates me!

These new laws are ruining how I learn about animals and their conservation. I’m so sad these went thru. I hope all of us can act and contribute. It’s gotten so crazy 😕
We have had similar discussions in Germany and while some states are creating blacklists for some animals, others decided to do a kind of license where you have to pass a test of your knowledge on how to keep the certain animal. That is my prefered way. But it does has its flaws as well.
Start an online petition! I'll sign it! If you and Chandler weren't make these videos I wouldnt know half the stuff I know about this animals. You guys are very educational. You show how they live basically wild. If there was people coming and looking at these animals for 6 or 7 hours a day they wouldn't being acting wild they would be scared and hide.
As a young adult studying to be a conservation biologist, channels like Kenan's and Chandler's are AMAZING sources of information for the public. UA-cam is the type of platform this awareness and information *needs* to be spread on. Even before covid, social media platforms are where awareness is spread...

Recently found your channel and enjoy it. Not a reptile lover but happy to see you care for them so well, and appreciate them from afar. I love that your beautiful daughter is interested. Like to see her get more involved.
It could be argued that your animals are out for a very large public display via your UA-cam channel. And, if you were breaking any rules, everyone could see it.
Not with the conditions in the law. Kenan mentioned that for it to qualify as a zoo/other display it needs to have "business hours" and a dedicated facility, and can't be your home residence.

Having an organization like usa ark is fine. That's great. But you need to reach out to your state reps. Speak to them directly. Tell them your story, and how this affects you, and your animals. Invite them out to meet the animals affected. I work with policy makers a lot and this is the first and most effective way to affect policy.
I will definitely be helping out through the channels you provided Kenan! I agree people who meet specified standards, such as you and Chandler, should be allowed to keep these animals. I live in Houston, Texas, and your channel is a way for me to learn about and appreciate these beautiful animals that I wouldn’t have an opportunity to see otherwise. Like you mentioned, we live in the age of COVID-19, and don’t know when travel to zoos or other exhibits will be allowed or even safe to attempt. Thanks for educating us all!
You two are the best for reptile youtube education. I know of a bunch others, however, both of you being in Florida make things complicated. Both of you are dreaming of a facility. Both of you have different specialties regarding reptiles... crazy idea... you both should consider becoming partners and mix the virtual and real education and take it to the next level by opening a facility together. Best collaboration ever! Love you both, stay safe.
Donated! As a multiple reptile momma in Texas, I would be so worried about the future of my babies if anything like that was passed here. People don't really realize that snakes and lizards are apart of the household and family like any furry pet would be. I hope everything works out in the favor of responsible reptile parents!
Texas is definitely a state that should closely watch what is going on here in Florida because with the climate in Texas they could argue that these snakes could survive if released/escaped and that will give them all the reason they need to ban them there as well.
Thanks to you, my son and I learned the proper way to house our sulcata tortoise and leopard gecko. We love what you do. I have your back, I'll donate and send my opinion.
I live in the middle of no where in England. No where around me has this type of snake (same with chandler and Tyler’s animals) for me to learn about them. This is educational! They need to figure it out. I understand that snake which have been released/got loose is a big problem there but if so why don’t they come out and check your collection. Make sure everything is safe and make sure you have the correct numbers if you can no longer keep your animals. Surely there should be something you can do. I feel for the people that have had these animals as pets for so long and it’s like being forced to give away or kill your family member. 😭
Thats the whole reason they are putting the laws into place. People who can't take care of the snakes and other reptiles set them free outside and they become super invasive.
@@KitKalico i didn't mean release them by any means. Its also illegal to export them out of state which i find odd in a way. Like chameleon and iguana are so abundant down there. The Florida government failed the people of south Florida and now they're taking it out on the rest of us. Those of us in Florida who want to properly keep these animals and those from other states who won't be able to get them because of these stupid and useless laws.
@@rill9000 You're right, i misread his comment.
Best wishes from 🇦🇺
I can 100% grantee you that many animals who would have never been released will be in my case if i lived in Florida id keep my animal anyway put if it was kill or free i get why people free there pets i get why Its wrong and you shouldn't but i also get why people who are to scared to get caught with a illegal animal would let them go
A study should have been done and both sides should have been heard.
If my choice was between surrender my animal to be euthanized or release it to the wild, I’d 100% release it. At least there it had a chance.
Big facts
Any keeper that releases their exotic pet into the wild never deserved to own one in the first place. Keepers like the ones you are describing are the reason laws like this exist in the first place, and only give further ammo to the legislators.
Oh the irony of the stupidity of the U.S government
@@airick4038 That is a good point too but at the same time though some good keepers will because they now have a moral choice of letting it live (by letting it go or "smuggling" it out of state to someone) or killing it. Which are both morally shitty decisions over a piece of paper really. I think alot won't be able to handle killing them.
1234 Thanks I totally agree with that.

I’m just saying your argument is invalidated by the fact they didn’t ask him to kill it but surrender or rehome.

Hopefully fish and game will truly see the impact UA-cam has on educational learning.
could you setup a 9-5 live stream of her cage? Would this suffice their "public" clause?
Great idea!!
this! that’s really smart
I like that idea, not sure if it will work though.

I can see why Florida is doing this, but they absolutely need to make provisions for responsible owners. Maybe do what other places do for exotic birds and have an annual inspection of their enclosures and the animals? I hope you can find a way Kenan!
You've got me worried out here in California with my little ball python 😭 I'm here to support you guys all the way!
Facts
They have grandfathering laws. The title is click bait.
LAND OF THE FREEEEE!
Hate to see you lose any :(
LAND OF THE FREEEEE! LOL
I had a heart attack when i read that title. I hope you can still keep buttercup

What about Covid? Does that have any bearing? What about a government that targets one race and nit pick them to death?
Good luck Kenan I'm behind you all the way

Is there a way to become a virtual zoo? Idk if that's even a thing. This is completely wrong of Florida to do
Not with the conditions in the law.

Thats the whole reason they are putting the laws into place. People who can't take care of the snakes and other reptiles set them free outside and they become super invasive.
K Thompson I don’t think he meant release her into the wild, pretty sure he meant something like send her to a friend out of state.

I guess i don't understand why someone couldn't go collect them down there and and send them to Colorado per say where they wouldn't be able to survive in the elements
@@zsworld6609 I dont know why my brain processed that as "release them" the first time i read that. Sorry! Lol. Youd be surprised by how many people are just like "but that thing back from where it came from"
I will definitely do my part and pass it on it's not right for UA-cam hard core conservation supporters as yourself to ever worry about destroying any of your well kept and important animals you use for keeping the breed for teaching as well as loving them as much as we do ! Thank you for all you do ! Enough taking away from all of us we need your show and all reptile shows so we can love them more each day we watch you and learn more each day ❤️🌴🐊🐍🦎🐢🐲

I went on to the Florida Wildlife site and it took a while but i found that you can make comments under Q/A then choose contact us. Keep fighting the good fight! good luck from Nevada.
The only animals we will only be able to own is a dog & cat soon.
Not even that, cats that live outside kill and eat native species
I mean in a way I understand where they are coming from because people continue to realese their pets into the wild and its bad for the environment but its seems very tragic for animals lovers in Florida. And its messed up how people who know nothing about animals are ruining it for all animal lovers by realesing them.
Keep it up Kenan! Just donated and will be joining USArk for CA. Keep up the amazing work!
This is not cool! I suppose you might be able to gift her to someone in a state where she could be kept. It seems a bit severe to go there.
I don't think that's an option, since it's considered animal export which is also illegal.
Burmese Pythons are restricted across some state lines. It's really complicated.
Kyle on his new sanctuary... Kyle wants to collab with him all he needs to is message him
LAND OF THE FREEEEE!
Everyone try to get this video out there so it can be recognized as an important problem that needs to be solved immediately! Get it to trending!
And the laws that are passed in Florida are brought to other states with a quickness. I've seen it happen for the last 35 years dealing with the wildlife department and them changing the rules out of nowhere costing pet owners thousands and thousands of dollars and in a lot of cases people having to put their animals down this is our government at work..
Im in SC and im seeing this right now! So annoying! Its killing me!
I was able to donate, it was only $5, but every little bit helps, and it was super easy!! Let's help these guys keep their beautiful exotic animals!
