I'm 80 years old and am ashamed to admit that I had never heard of Tom until I saw him in the Wilburys, now I am hooked ,such talent and a true rock and roll genius
I share your sentiments and had occasion to write something for Tom so had some interaction with him, truly a remarkable funny generous spirited man; as a woman I'm uncomfortable writing personal stuff, although men write all the time about he was their best friend in times of trouble and there was a song their Dad listened to when they were young that changed their lives .. after his death a lot of people were commenting and sharing and I don't do social media but was moved to write about his videos; one area not comprehensively written about, which is what I do for a living; the Facebook group was dominated by youngish women, or any kind of woman obsessed with photos of him when he was young and beautiful … wtf, sorry. I extracted myself from that environment really quickly because it's not the point of Tom Petty at all love. Forgive me if I sound a bit prickly but he needs to be honoured for who he really was/is: a human being learning to fly and infinitely vulnerable and strong in his honesty; reason each one of us can find ourselves in his music. He belongs to all of us and no-one. He is up there in the Sirius constellation with his favorite dog and learning to fly is a great and wonderful goal. Best wishes in 2020!
I agree, if you get a chance to watch the concert portion of the DVD set you will love every minute of it. I thought the documentary was fascinating because I really never knew how the band formed.
There are no words really 🙁the most perfect songs and band of all time !! I’m a true down south girl feel I love with the very first time I ever heard Tom and the heartbreakers♥️ Than God I was able to see them on their 40th Anniversary tour
The hairs on my arms are on end when I watch this performance video; yes Dylan deserved the Nobel prize but this is unbelievable music; I sing along, can't help it the lyrics are incredible; love reference to Mark Twain; 'create myself down south/ impress all the women/ pretend I'm Samuel Clemens, wearing searsucker and white linen .. and the refrain is totally tom: if I come to your door/let me sleep on your floor, I'll give you all I have and a little more". A very short list of brilliant artists who literally gave all of themselves to their art and their audience, no words left.
I've been a big Tom Petty fan for years... This is the best I heard. Amazing and beautiful beyond words ❤🧠😎🙏👍🇺🇸🎶🎵... Sweet as it gets❤💓💞💕❤️🔥❤️🩹💘💖in every way. I listen often and I really appreciate the new videos that are released in various forms. I don't think I'll ever get tired of listening to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I miss him ♥️.
FROM FRANCE.He was magnificent, beautiful blue eyes, a super sensual mouth, and beautiful blond hair. He was à very sexy man and this song is very mélodieuse!
Such a great singer songwriter and a exceptional band , had the good fortune to see them a couple of times and when they toured with bob, been a fan of Tom petty and bob Dylan for 40 years now, how the time has flown, devastated when I heard the terrible news, still bothers me now 2 years later, if you know anything about Dylan you’ll know he rarely shows his feelings but what he said about Tom petty came from the heart Dylan loved and respected him and Tom felt the same towards him George Harrison was the same, that shows the measure of him as a artist and a great man !! So sadly missed
IMHO, One of the finer live productions and performances of a song in a major venue. Period. It's magic when such talented musicians put something together like this - everyone doing their part to make the whole something so much greater. The studio version is great (because it's a great song) - but this one transcends - the slight up tempo, TP's vocals, Campbell's fills and solo, Blair, Thurston on the rythym with Ferrone's chops and of course Tench's amazing organs and piano. What a gift to have on UA-cam. Thank you.
I was fortunate to have been there that night. My younger Brother and I grew up in the area, and both attended UF for our undergrad. I was on leave from the war, and my Brother surprised me with tickets. Good times.
Love this song, it's just beautiful! His voice is perfect for this song! The heartbreakers are amazing and they play their hearts out! This concert is awesome! I, m going to be at their next concert!
I love this man when it comes to rock and roll tom pretty is the best one out there no one is as good as him when it comes to music he is the best he has all ways been at the top what a top brand I would love to see him live rock and roll at it's best
I started listening to Petty in 1977...haven't stopped since. First time I saw Petty was at Red Rocks in 1981 and again in Germany ~1983. I also spent a ton of time in Mecca (Gainesville, his hometown) with my sons having graduated from UF. He truly is an icon!
The world of music wouldn't be what it is without this man... What an absolute legend... He's probably the guy who got me so in love with music that I play (attempt to) it myself now... My style is a bit faster than his but he's a hero to me.
Shouldn't ya just forget comparing this to someone else's song, Cause it don't sound like Dylan at all. So what if it did? What a GREAT PERSON to be compared to? This is WAY COOL! Whatever happened to the music? I don't know a Women who wouldn't hold your hand a little tighter in the crowd listening to this GREAT SONG!!!!
Check out "Love Minus Zero/No Limit"..."Down South" has a similar feel and similar "circular" chord progression. Not a bad thing...the song deserves to be emulated, and who better to reference it than a fellow Wilbury?
Everyone has the right to say and express their feelings, opinions and thoughts without being criticized. Who are you to feel you should edit someone's personal comment. Tom Petty was so special in so many ways and some people just feel they want to share their experiences with and about someone special to all of us who watch these videos. I think people feel like they're amongst friends because of the common admiration and love for Tom Petty and his music.
We know. We/ I love Tom. He's the best and always will be. Not only because of his musicianship but because of the person he was. Tom didn't like any kind of remarks that had the inkling of any kind of racism or hate. That's why he was upset about fans bringing the confederate flag to some shows years back and why he was sorry his using it as a backdrop on stage initiated that. He apologized and never did it again. He loved his southern roots but not racism anywhere in our country. If you truly love ❤️ Tom Petty, you must love everything about the man...imo. RIP Tom Petty. Will miss you forever. 😔 The hurt just doesn't stop. This world needs you like never before.
I'm 80 years old and am ashamed to admit that I had never heard of Tom until I saw him in the Wilburys, now I am hooked ,such talent and a true rock and roll genius
Don't be ashamed.. be grateful he didn't totally slip away from you
Very cool. Better late then never. Now you have a ton of great stuff to introduce yourself to. Don't forget to include Mudcrutch.
Tom always gave us "all he had and a little more"
Such a humble man and without question the best there has ever been ! Still hurts
Sure does.
Yes! I'm with ypu !
We all hurt when he died !
@@RoxanneWood-df7up very true

Tom has got something everyone should have a piece of
R.I.P Tom you could've slept on my floor anytime xxx
Not to be inappropriate, would it have to be the floor that he could have slept on? He could have been unresistable!!
Tom Petty ,Bob Dylan,12 pack who could ask for anymore!!!!!
Tennessee boy loves tom in a good way!!

well what a nice fella!
Que música genial. Y las letras buenísimas. Una leyenda del rock mundial.
Tom petty the greatest ever
Top song from Highway Companion.
Good Music
Had to look up this long article. The piece can be summed up with a Petty quote, "we can really kick their ass, you know?" Yes, we do know.
Charles, all true, but it's "a woman". "Women" is used for two or more. And I don't think it sounds at all like Bob Dylan at all, either.
Check out "Love Minus Zero/No Limit"..."Down South" has a similar feel and similar "circular" chord progression. Not a bad thing...the song deserves to be emulated, and who better to reference it than a fellow Wilbury?
adorable Tom
Southern boy GOAT
10/10
Better than the album version imho.
Gewoon prachtig...
lots of i and me , and my in this comment -- He truly is an icon would have been sufficient

Great tune, just always wanted to ask Tom if it should of been "Love Bugs" hit my windshield instead of misquitoes, specially being from Gainesville
I'll say it again for all U yankees Tom Rules !!!👍👍😀🤗
