- Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore.
It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore.
That long black cloud is comin' down
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Who else is watching this in 2024. Wow 👌
Absolutely Cool
Me
Me too!
Gives me a chill... Such a thing to see
Me! ❤ Yes chills! My time & many memories!
Moi my génération
It is gonna be so sad when the last of the legends are gone. The last era of true, honest, soulful music that you feel in your bones. Music just isn't the same now and never will be again. At least we have the recordings and this music never dies. Rest in peace Tom.
I agree 100 % with you Mr Robin Ownbey. I cannot stop listening to these masters legends. God bless Bob Dylan
Well said.
Dyan 82 now I wonder how long he will last.
Yes, agreed
As long as bands are out there like the War On Drugs it's not over yet I am sure.
This is my generation. Vietnam war veteran. Then college graduation. Career in Alaska. And all the time the music!! Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Simon & Garfunkel, Wilson Pickett, The Stones................ ☮
💯
Petty was a little later than Nam
Nam was the american holocaust, the ameriacans have another one now by supplying now by supplying all the arms for the genocide in gaza.@@markskibo5159
So proud of this generation. Was mine too. Had married a Vietnam vet. Am so proud and thankful for all your service. In more ways than one. Blessings for you.
Three Vietnam Tours myself. Yes indeed... This is the Best Music EVER
I'll be 73 May 5, and I'm lost for words, this is so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes, too bad Jimmy couldn't make it to this gathering. Rock on y'all ❤
Happy birthday 🎉
just turned 77 and wish I could go back in time and buy tickets to all the great concerts that I only heard of later. Guess Tom knew he had arrived to be on this stage.
You are all right. Today's so called Rock sucks. We have all been so lucky to grow up and grow old with amazing musicians. 😢
Falou pouco mas falou bonito 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
O si y los que pudimos estar en sus consiertos
😂there's plenty of great music around. sounds like you're one of those humble people who thinks something doesn't exist if you haven't heard of it.😅
It was a privilege to grow up listening to the Best Bands In The World!!! I’m going out with them because my time is limited! It’s been a hell of a ride!! Thank you Jesus

Saw Tom Petty Dylan and Stevie Nicks in Sydney Awesome!
Still broken
This song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. I was a Freshman in College and I saw Dylan live in 1973 and he played this song! He and Tom Petty (RIP) are indeed legends!!!
Yep.
You're so lucky you got to see a younger Dylan!
I'm 76 years old I was lucky enough to see both of them live.
As you said rest in peace Tom.
Their talent was so like minded.
Live in 73......? Where?
lucky you.a you tube video is all i have got
This kind of music will survive us all (I'm 73 already cheers)
@Honest Mark average nothing new under the sun
Hi Mark I'm from Chile (falling of the map) South America born here raised in the UK and back here since 1973
Полностью согласен! Эта музыка нас всех переживет. И это хорошо! Это Бог нам явил свое откровение!
Cheers bud
Great music, great guys. From Ireland 😊😊😊
These two sound so good together we will all be knocking one day so be kind people be kind and thank GOD if you woke up today! Right On !
Love this song when sung by Tom and Bob..I am now 70 years old and the music from these two greats is in my DNA..it all started in the sixties..what a wonderful..our countries growing..people becoming aware of right from wrong through a lot of protests..these two greats helped inspire our world..peace and love to them and all my brothers and sisters who have experienced these changing times🙋♀️💝
Tom is great but he didn't write it. It's from the soundtrack to Young Guns. The movie was edited and ready to go. But the producer paused production & asked Bob if he could write one more. He said there's something missing I need one more song Bob and after the movie is essentially can ready for release Bob Dylan gave us one more song The genius is obvious Chris ardoin desert version yes sir
Yep, 74 here, great song & memories.
RIP Tom Petty. You'll be missed.
I did the coolest thing today. Bought a bottle of Heavens Door bourbon signed Bob Dylan. Got the bottle engraved free in memory of my mother who recently passed away.
My Mom passed away March of 2023. I know she's listening to this great song with me. 🌹
Bob would want you to drink it. I lost someone recently too. Its hard. But pour a glass and send your wishes to Tom,xxxx
Tom's energy is amazing! I love the way he's just jumping around enjoying himself. We miss you so much Tom. 😢
Long live to Bob✨✨✨
This is my history, thank you so much for preserving it. Born in 1962. Bob Dylan has always been my hero :)
I was born in 1962 also ❤
I remember buying my first Jimi Hendrix album. Loved Dylan, the Beatles, Led Zep, CCR and all mentioned. It was incredible to have lived at such a rich time in Folk/rock musical history. We were blessed.
God bless Tom Petty, a talented and generous musician.
And a gentleman, legend
AMEN
I agree 💘🎩🎸
Yep
Yep total genious just by my omg
I LOVE this harmonica solo!! This one of the best tours Bob ever did. He and Tom were so much alike. You are missed Tom! Here's hoping you're in Heaven looking down smiling!!

@@tinaschlegel5621 Amazon has an incredible documentary on Tom "Runnin' down a dream" 4 hrs, so very in-depth.
Every time I hear “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”, it’s still as sublime as when I heard it back in 1973 as a sixteen-year-old. Still have to do something about those onions, though.
Wow that waa going back iwas 24 then, back from nam 5 years god bless us all 0:18
I sure miss this good old music back in the 70’s and 80’s.
Diese Musik ist einfach genial, wird es so nie wieder geben. Ich bin 69 und sie begleitet mich immer, es gibt ja auch so viele schöne Erinnerungen.
👍
Music that stirs your soul . So much of it, never enough . 60's 70's music will be listened to forever ❤
I love how you can pick out each of their voices when they are singing, yet they blend together so beautifully. Just pure magic.
RIP to one of the greatest legends to ever live. You will be missed, Tom
We do miss him
As will Dylan, hopefully not for a while.
❤Tom Petty is real legend,❤your music, stage,on rock still exist,.in memory who remember and love Your music .😢
RIP Tom Petty, 1950-2017, The Music and the "Man" don't get much better!
Petty had songs for days. And forever. America and the world still hasn’t quite yet recognized just what genius art he has given us.
A favorite of mine. The best era for music from the soul. So fortunate to be a part of this. Some of my greatest memories from my younger days.
From an era when music was good and the world was a better place. The music still lingers.
I will enter the Paradise singing this song … solidarity with all the 70’ s who knew this glorious times ! Peace and love !
One of the best rock songs ever! Thanks Tom and Bob! This will still be around in a hundred years!
Probably more than 100 years! Same with Dylan and Harrison. Can you imagine Dylan,Petty, and Harrison? I can! Excuse me, the Traveling Wilburys. Oh Yeah!!!
Amen to that! Gives me the chills...
Марат-россия!все классно!
Thank you, Bob Dylan for your beautiful, timeless and relevant songs.
Amen to that...
... and amen
To be there in person would have bordered on a religious experience! RIP, Tom, you are greatly missed.
Agreed my all time favorite version of this song. Frequent rotation on my playlists. The amount of talent on that stage that night !
I was there, and yes it was. Heavean.
Amen!
@@stevenmyatt99 It was definitely a live music highlight in my life - I saw them near the end of this tour in August '86 (in Vancouver, BC). It was the best show I'd seen up to that point (I was just a kid at the time)--and truth be told, it was probably best show I've seen since. They finished the show with this wonderful piece. My friends and I just wiggled our way up to the front and spent most of the concert within spitting distance of Bob and Tom. Those were the days! Last time I saw Dylan I was in the 3th row. I walked up the ailse to get a bit closer for one of his tunes and got sent back to my seat.
Absolutely ❤️
I saw a concert on this tour. The pair of them had remarkable chemistry. It is one of the most memorable versions of this song ever
Their voices too---I once saw a clip of Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen singing together, and it just didn't come together.
I seen the same concert in Atascadero California Fair grounds...was amazing ..RIP Tom Petty..one of the greatest
Watching in 2020. Praying for those going through a hard time.
Feel so Grateful and Privileged to Have Lived through the Greatest Era of Rock And Rollers Ever
For me, this is the definitive version of this song. Particularly with the harp intro, the piano, the vocals. Just really good all around.
"Beauty"...
This beautiful then and now and forever..Dylan and the Tom and the guys ..ahhh damn ..heart is broken
Mine 2☮️🔥💖
Feeling truly blessed to have lived when The Kings And Queens of Music ruled the airways and shaped my life.
🎉🎉🎉Twenty twenty four🎉Still one of the bst songs ever!🎉🎉🎉
Im 64, Saw these guys in 1984 in Philly. I wish I see some up and comers being like theses two but I think both are once in a lifetime
Wow.... I cried watching that it was very powerful Tom & Bob are great Together ❤️ 🎉 ❤😊
I love those guys what a show *!* ✌️ ☮️
Sad beyond belief, even now. Music is UNIVERSAL. RIP Tom.
Bob Dylan is pure magic. I love him!
70s music only music that can bring a tear and a smile
It was the best time of our lives
We were truly FREE!!!
Wow, tears…..RIP Tom…you will never be forgotten
The eighties were the best... Some of the best music to ever come out.. I remember watching this live. Great memories!!!
Bob & Tom collide happily 😊😊😊!!!!
The seventies were amazing too.
One of the best performances of this song ever heard. I come back to this session every year...

I have never heard this version before. Honestly this time in 🎶 music was a unbelievable and can't be repeated. This is a true classic time period. Tom Petty I saw you in the 80's for my Birthday. You are a special soul.God bless everyone. who reads this.

Hey . Just want to check if you are okay?
I can't get enough this song
BOB - THE BEST. - WE MISS YOU- THOMAS EARL PETTY - every day.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Perfect statement of fact.
Like all of you.. I knew Tom Petty in Gainesville when he first starting singing MY life... what will I do without him... his songs are in my head and will lift me into my next life ..Heaven's Gate awaits me.. I am 70 and Tom will sing me into my next life..lve ❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗
Great Next Life you will have with the music of these near Angels !!!
Bob Dylan, um artista completo.... Feliz dia mundial do rock!!!🇧🇷
Tom ... you left me! What will I do without you. I will find you at Heavens Door...one of your long time fans from Gainesville... OMG see you soon... keep singing... so I can find you at Heavens Door... m...
Best there ever was and will be. Their duet gave me chills and just watching them put me back in those days. And Tom, I really miss you so much. I love you and every note you gave us. And Bob, one of our best and best loved, please stay for a long while. Your music changed my world. 😢❤
1973, I was entering a 40 year career in Law Enforcement. The song soon had a special meaning to me and my brothers. Ed, Mike, Tom
I'm so grateful we have sites like you tube. I remember when Buddy Holly died (yeah, I'm old) and not much of that great talent is available today because the technology was not up to preserving great moments like this video. Won't be long before Dylan is gone, but this music will be around for eons........depending on how long the planet lasts.
Maybe the bugs and rats the only who survived, love his music too
Always loved this. RIP Tom.
One of the greatest songs ever written 🙌!
Its the harmonica intro from bob its insanely good
the hell it is, he won a nobel prize for that harmonica intro
Coolest harmonica lead ever
Tom and the band must be one of the best support bands ever that's why Dylan works so well with them.
I had the pleasure of seeing them two in concert in the 80’s. Awesome concert.
I gave up the concert ticket in Chicago in '86 to be with my girlfriend ...
36 years later 1 of my better decisions BUT Thank God for UA-cam to re-live what I missed :)
Bob Dylan is the best!
Amazing Tom & Bob together ❤️ 😊❤😊
I love it
Debbie 🌹
I always loved listening to Tom Petty. I really miss him.
I'm truly sad at all the amazing rock legends that we're losing 🎉🎉. They lleft a hole in the music 🎶 🎵 world 🌎. RIP,Tom Petty, you are knockin on heavens door 🎉🎉. Tom you are playing up in heaven now 🎉🎉
I know! I'm only 62 & I'm scared to open a newspaper. Can only do so many funerals 😢
Legends will never die, if we listen and appreciate their music.
Best song ever written!Tom you realized your dream singing with Bob rip
I was at this show and
originally saw TP and the HBs at Winterland in San Francisco in 78 and 17 times after that as I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and they would come every year, also they would play in LA and then Reno which gave me the opportunity to travel to LA and Reno so I actually saw them 3 times in one year all the shows just a few days apart. I was young and in my prime so driving 8 hours was all part of the experience and I loved it! Those days of attending those shows means the world to me, the last was in 2010 in Oakland , I had second row but little did I know it would be the last time I would ever see Tom Petty. He threw a pick in the audience I got when they played Free Fallen and I have a broken Stan lynch drum stick from a show I saw them at in Santa Cruz Ca. He would throw all his broken sticks in the audience ( Love Stan Lynch) This show with Dylan was Epic And what great memories of those years. I started going to their shows at 16, I’m now 63 and still listening to them all the time. Yes losing your hero’s is hard.
RIP Tomas Earl Petty✝ RIP Howard Norman Epstein ✝
This is legendary. Thank you very much. I love to listen to this. It touches my very soul. ❤️🎶🎸
Good musicians never die!
Superbe duo que j'adore avec Tom Petty et Bob Dylan. BRAVO...!!!!!
This concert changed my life
When bob holds Tom back for one last hoorah 😢 long live 2kings! I’m a 92 baby and still wet behind the ears… it’s like mufasa and scar came together ❤
If you mean at the start during the Harmonica intro then I don't think he was holding Tom back, he was holding the drummer back as he was infilling and setting up for the first verse too early before the intro was finished.
This is my regular viewing video for a number of years and now Tom has passed .Still shocked and stunned on this day ...cant get my head around it yet I just know that losing Tom is like losing family for me and for most of us .
Oh God! That's exactly it--he WAS like family for so many of us. THAT'S why it's hit me so hard.
Thanks!
Keep Knocking
Whoever thought of this duet --thank you, Bob and Tom for doing it. We don't hear Dylan playing that harmonica as much as when he was young--remember that well. Tom has joined heaven's best.
baler johnson he is like a childhood friend of those who grew up in the 60s and 70s.
Still the same in 2019 😩
It is one of the most memorable versions of this song ever....
Awesome 😎
I was lucky to see them on this tour , they were brilliant, my two favourite performers got to see Bob many times over the past 40 years and Tom a few times also, these are legends not the manufactured singers of today’s music, true musicians . Simple as that
I saw them play together two at Redg rocks in denver. And Petty by himself several times. Amazing!
@@janice8925 exactly ! You know what I am saying, you also have great musical taste by the way 👍
Rock'n Roll greatness!
Bob once said, the Heartbreakers are the best band he ever played with.
Considering all the clasic work he did with the Band, that was really something.
And if you never caught the whole Bob and Tom show HBO ran back then, you've really got to. Best double bill I recall ever seeing on there.
Saw them play at Redrocks together back in the eighties! Amazing!
Alweer "a timeless masterpiece". Knappe performance
What a great tour that was....sweet memories
Somebody please digitally remaster this the best version of this classic deserves it RIP 🙏TOM I HATE you fentenal 💘always from Ireland 🇮🇪💔
I don't need to go to heaven already knowing Bob Dylan!
Dylan - once in a hundred generations! On a totally different level to any songwriter!
Totally supreme! No one comes even remotely close!
I love when Dylan pulls his right arm back to tell drummer he's not done on the harp in the beginning!
Yea, you r right, I’m glad u pointed that out! , I ain’t done with the intro yet!
You cannot control art, or good’ol Bob.
TRUELY MUCH BETTER MUSIC THEN COMPARED TO MUCH OF TODAYS MUSIC
Good Old Rock and Roll. My parents generation is called the Greatest generation. My generation is called the Rock and Roll generation. 60-70'
The musical talent here is beyond amazing
I finally can listen to this again without tears! They have sung my life ...what will I do without Tom Petty in my life. Bob do not leave US! What will do without you. In tears for Tom , my Gainesville friend...
Bob Dylan asked Tom Petty to tour with him...and we are all very thankful he said YES.
this is an awesome live version!
Another Great version. RIP TOM
Just like so many times before , this never ages
Bob Dylan wielding his two edged sword just like so many times before. I love this prophet and priest of The Most High.
this clip warrants more than a mere 150,000 views
ie 1.5m
Tom Petty knocked the heaven's door. 02.10.2017 .
