    Great little baskets not only for yourself, but great gifts as well. You could also use fusible tape for that little opening in the lining.

    I just used a piece of batting...works just as good and is cheaper than soft and stable and holds very nicely.

      Marla Shanas thank you for your comment! I’m new to sewing and have never used foam. It’s not that I’m scared to use it, it’s that everything is shutdown right now and I wouldn’t know what on earth to order from Joann. Plus, I wouldn’t know if any Pellon foam would act the same way as that soft and stable. 😕

    • @Marla.22
      @Marla.22 4 роки тому +1

      me either. I use batting and I get it from Walmart, its the same as Joann has and cheaper. Also watch carefully at Joann fabrics. There are a lot of strings and its ragged and uneven, especially the jelly rolls. I don't get fabric at Joann anymore. I get really stable and good fabric at Hobby Lobby or online at Riley Blake, Me and my sister designs or Carla Bowes

      Marla Shanas I have batting from Walmart but I don’t know if it’s the right kind. I have the one that comes in a bag by Fairfield. It’s the poly-fil low loft quilt batting. Is that the right kind? Thank you for sharing stores you like to shop at! There’s a local fabric store and it’s kind of a warehouse. It’s amazing but I can’t go in and feel things so I’m a little lost! Thank you again!

      You can use that but when quilts are washed, it tends to ball up some. Use the batting walmart has that's 100% cotton, called Warm and Natural. Will last a lot longer, I use it a LOT. Here in my town, its $13.00 Its big enough to make several quilts that are around 55 x 55. Good Luck with your quilts..:)

    This is fun! Fun to make and fun to give. I gave them to lots of family and friends who all seemed to really enjoy receiving one. It 's a win-win quick project. It doesn't cost a lot for each basket either; I used a layer cake but you could also use yardage to cut multiples of the 9"x10" and the 10" x 10" fabric pieces.

    Thank you for this design. I have been looking for something like this for my mother-in-law. I want to make her a fabric basket to place napkins in on her table. I plan to make this up first exactly as you have designed and then try to change the size to fit the paper napkins that she prefers to buy. I am no math wiz... but hopefully I can work it out. Thanks again for the inspiration!!

    Great tutorial! I have made many of these baskets now, some with batting , some with the soft and stable. Both work out great, but when I want the most stability, I use the soft and stable. If I don't mind a bit more flexibility in my basket, I use batting. Lots of fun to make, easy and so pretty and functional!

    Could you make a box with a lid, using a slightly smaller one for the lid?

    • @FatQuarterShopTX
      @FatQuarterShopTX  5 років тому

      Hi Emily! Great question! An easy way to add a lid would be to make a shallow version of the box that is slightly wider so it can close over the top. You could also attach a lid using grommets or buttons with string. If you do add a lid, definitely share with us what you chose to do!

    LOVE THESE i want to make them , i am working though is there a way to adapt this into a rectangle . I just bought a piece of furniture with a lot of cubby holes and need to make the baskets are 10in long 4 wide and 4 tall . If anyone can let me know what size i would need as the square to do this. I am new to these kind of projects but it would be awesome if i can make my own baskets because it is hard to find anything that size. THANKS

    • @FatQuarterShopTX
      @FatQuarterShopTX  2 роки тому

      Hello PCOH051610! Make sure that when you sew the lining that you are marking the extra ½ inch on the top.
      When you mark the lining mark with the line 2 ½” from the edge for the sides and 3” for top and bottom.

    Cute little basket!!! I'm making this basket right now and I'm a little confused about the lining. Do you sew on those drawn lines like on the fabric with the Soft and Stable or press on the lines?

    • @FatQuarterShopTX
      @FatQuarterShopTX  7 років тому

      Yes, as you will notice at the 2:45 mark you stitch directly on the drawn lines. This will join your soft and stable and fabric.
