- Thanks for checking out our reaction. Um, this was kind of a weird one. We didn't see a video so we can't really tell much about the guy, but hopefully he's not too old. This is our first time doing a Winger reaction. Idk if Seventeen was a good place to start.

"She's only 70. My kids say she's too old, but she's got that social security!"
😂😂😂😂
That's probably the right age for the Winger guys now.
House probably paid off too.
That's the ticket.
"She makes Depends look good. Oh yeah!!!"
Could you imagine somebody trying to release this song today? 😱
"Where's Chris Hansen?" Made me LOL fr Lex! 🤣
I was fifteen when this came out. Guys, in the 1980's we had a great time, and not everything was so taboo. We, the MTV generation, loved this song!
There's several bangers on this album. I remember this video on MTV, wasn't impressed but bought the album anyway, lotta good other songs.
It was a completely different world back then. Miss them days, big time. Kids today have no idea how much fun we old farts had back then!!!! I don't think they would have made it. 20 bucks got you gas in the car and a case of beer!!!!! Good times!!!!
@@nathanstrickland6508, definitely! I'll be 49 later this year, and I would give up half of what I had to have 10 more years of the 1980's! We didn't know that a great time like that would come to an end, and that we would have what we have now. We really got lucky to live in the best time in American history! Cheers from northeast Ohio.
@@johnsmith2046 Ha ha lol!!!! Its a small world brother. I'm 48, and I'm just one state from you in West Virginia!! Good talking to you sir.
I dunno man I was around then too and this was just more poof hair trash to me, the guitar playing is cool but it was just one of many Cherry Pies to come out of that era.
When Stewart from Beavis and Butt-Head would wear their shirt it drove winger crazy. They not only hated that the dork stupid character was wearing their shirt but they actually blamed the TV show for ruining their careers
I have always loved that story lol
Beavis & Butthead & Metallica. In the video for,”Nothing Else Matters,” Lars Ulrich, the drummer, throws a dart at the lead singer and bassist, Kip Winger.
He throws a dart at a picture. Just reread my comment and had to clarify.
"Guitaring" 🙂
We also learned that Stewart gets diarrhea from breakfast burritos.
Kind of a role reversal for me!! When this song came out my girlfriend at the time was 20 and I was 17 lol!! I miss the 80's!!!!!
"Well, she was just 17, you know what I mean?" the opening line from "I Saw Her Standing There" written by Lennon and McCartney. Age of consent in the UK is 16.
It is 16 in a good number of USA states as well.
People assume it is 18 everywhere because of TV.
The US seems to be trying to get back to its puritanical roots. When this song was new we had the Bill Wyman Mandy Smith saga playing out in the UK. How he managed to survive that is a real head scratcher.
Tiffany covered that song in, I think, 1986 - I don’t remember any controversy over it other than it butchered a Beatles classic. Then again, the redhead teenage girl from California had also released a cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now”, so she was viewed by the public much differently than a scruffy 20something-year-old Kip Winger.
It’s 16 in New Zealand too.
Yeah the 80s where a totally different time no way you could get away with this song today. This song was a huge hit too 😂
Wasn't 17 above the age of Consent in USA in 1989? It was in the UK.
@@j4wn depends on which state.

Hilarious reaction. One thing you have to keep in mind was that rock and roll for so many years was marketed directly to teenagers. When we heard songs like this as teens, nothing seemed strange about it at all, it seemed totally normal. And my younger sister dated someone who was 18 when she was 16, and she dated someone who was 24 when she was 17. My first girlfriend when I was 16, was nearly 18 and turned 18 while I was still going out with her.
Yeah, when I went to high school in the early 80’s, many of popular girls & cheerleaders dated guys in college. It just wasn’t thought of like it is now. I mean, these 19, 20 & 21 year old guys would come to the high school & pick up their 16 or 17 year old girlfriends. They’d even come in & say hi to their old teachers with the girl in tow. It really was a different time.
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 Exactly!

I think most of us had the same point of view that you did who were teenagers in the 80s. BUT STILL.... Kip Winger didn't look exactly 18 or 19 years old in the video. And listening to it a few decades later doesn't make it seem so innocent.
Right!? I don't get the "ped" vibes some claim to have with this song
ANYONE that claims they were an angel at 17 is either lying, or a saint. Neither of which I can relate to. 😂🤣
My wife hates, hates, hates this band and this song..., So I play it every now and then...LOL
One of , if not Wingers biggest hit. Imagine being in your 50s or 60s and you HAVE to sing this song every show
Kip does A lot of solo acoustic shows and he has fun with the song and brings up fans to sing with him .
Benny Mardones sang Into The Night almost up until he recently died. ua-cam.com/video/ZMfgNlm_Wfo/v-deo.html
Some of their ballads - like Miles Away- were bigger.
LOL. I think Kip Winger is turning 61 this year.

Not a fan of your latest trend of using clickbait titles instead of the artists and songs.
Was about to comment the same thing. Super annoying
Agree 100%.
Commenting to say I don't like it either. Hope they revert
I like it because the song starts right away. And it's not clickbait. It's a guessing game.
I don’t mind putting commentary on the thumbnail, but keep the song title in the video title.
Like all hair metal, it is meant for prepubescent boys. Teenyboppers that can't wait until they are 17 years old so they can do adult things, like drive, dink, and have sex. These were not songs meant for adults... which is why hair metal died over night when grunge came around. The prepubescent boys that liked hair metal in the 80's were now going off to College and needed more mature music, so they abandoned hair metal for grunge.
YOU have to do "Easy come easy go" "Heading for a heart break" "Can't get enough" "Down incogneto"
The Rockers of the 70s and 80s simply did not have boundaries as we experience them.
As Jim Morrison's biography would attest, this went back earlier than the 70s. Morrison, Elvis...the list of pervs who got a free pass goes on and on.
@@bminturn you're definitely right that you can trace it way far back. Even all the way to Beethoven, really. I just kind of have this feeling that the seventies and eighties were especially crazy
If she was 17 in 1988 when this song first came out, she’d be 51 today…. 🤯
Reb Beach was one of the finest guitarists of that era. And still shredding today.
The truth!!! These guys got verbally banged up by people back then because they were pretty boys but good musicians for sure!!!
Have you checked out his most recent album, "A View From The Inside"? Very melodic and shreddy
@@williamkilpatrick6821 agreed. Kip Winger played with Alice Cooper, and he only hires top shelf musicians.
"Where's Chris Hansen?" 😂 That gets my vote for funniest Lex quote of the year. 🤣
I was in high-school when this came out. As a 16 year old at the time ... this song was awesome. This was one of the tunes we would have blasting when we cruised the loop in town. Good memories:) You have to think ... this music was marketed to teen and pre-teens ... risqué but not overtly vulgar.
Yeah, don't ever listen to Christine Sixteen - KISS or Into The Night - Benny Mardones (that one is genuinely creepy with an equally creepy video).
Your generation can't handle it.
thats crazy, ppl were nonces back in the day. didn't jerry seinfeld go out with a 16 year old while they were filming? billie eilish was dating a guy like 10 years older too (i say was cuz i saw a headline saying they broke up or something), ig hollywood's just weird.
Jerry dated a 17 year old high school student when he was 38. It was a little controversial at the time, though certainly not like it would be seen now.

Thanks for checking in, Kip.
@@bobdroll6381 jaja I didnt like this song though too nasty.
He was about 27 years old when this came out. One of the perks of being a rock star was the girls lined up outside your hotel room. Tour manager checking groupies' IDs, making sure they're tall enough to ride the roller-coaster.
Only back then I don’t think they really worried about checking ids cause as long as sex was consensual and not with a young child age didn’t bother people as much.
@@wendydotson8891 yeah, no. This was the 80's, not the 60's.

@@react2reactions246 That’s crazy to me. Why would any parent feel comfortable with their 17 year old kid dating someone in their 20s? Like especially their late 20s?
Some 70s and 80s rockers even went for 14 year olds and no one seemed to question it. Guitarist of led zep for example had a 14 year old groupie.
Nugent
steven tyler too
Yeah, it seems like a hard line at 18 was drawn sometime in the late 80’s to early 90’s.
Why would men want a girl who hasn't even gone through full puberty yet? It's gross. I don't care what era it was.
Yuck. 14 and they’re like a freshmen in high school. That is a child and idk why anyone would excuse that kind of behavior from a grown man. Oh wait! Probably because oooo guy good at playing guitar! So it’s not predatory, right?
In all fairness the writer based the lyric on a Beatles song "I Saw Her Standing There", which contains the lyric, "Well she was just seventeen, if you know what I mean, & the way she looked was way beyond compare." For some reason, 17 was a popular age to sing about in the 70's and 80's. Joan Jett's I love Rock and Roll, Dancing Queen by Abba, Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter, Sexy and 17 by the Stray Cats, Edge of 17 by Stevie Nicks, 17 by Ladytron...it's weird for sure. R Kelly heard the song Seventeen by Winger and sent the lead singer a text asking if the girl in the song had a younger sister.
@Victor Alexander Twenty when he wrote it, actually. But the point is that times and culture are constantly changing in terms of what is the norm, or what is acceptable. When Elvis met Priscilla, she was 14 and he was 24. They were romantically involved long before she was 18. Women rarely went to college or worked back then. They were brought up to marry and have families. If an artist who was 24 today started courting a 14 year old, even if they waited until she was 18 until they married, they would call it "grooming."
I read somewhere, don't remember where or when, but the person writing the article stated the reason alot of these songs mentioned 17 year old girls was because they were the demographic that bought the most music. Makes sense to me. But also, like some others have stated, times were different back then. I'm 63 so I remember 60's through 90's music, people weren't so hung up on age back then.
Some of the absolute best guitar riffage of the 80s in this song.
This song hits way different now that I'm 51 than it did when I was 18. But the song is great!
If she was 17 then, she’s actually 51 today….
I'm 51 also. I know what I was doing in high school at 17. My girlfriend was two grades under me. We were still together after I turned 18.
@@Wrangzilla Now I don't feel so bad listening to it, especially sitting at a red light with windows down as a creepy 53 yr old.
This kinda put an exclamation point on it but everyone from Joan Jett to Stevie Nicks talked about 17 year olds from the 1950's all the way through the 80's.
Stevie Nicks "Edge of seventeen" has NOTHING remotely to do with sex. The song is about John Lenon being killed and her uncle dying from cancer. The seventeen year old is her cousin, who was 17 when his father passed away.
@@Watthead80 I'm just saying as matter-of-fact that 'seventeen year olds' were a musical trope, regardless of how they were being used. This song is just at the extreme end of one example.
I remember thinking this song had some creepy lyrics, but I really liked the guitar part and the player Reb Beach was/is a monster guitarist.
Yep, Reb seemed always underrated. And while I personally never cared for hair metal, I'll give credit where credit is due: the riff in this song has always been a favorite of mine, and Kip is 60 now and still a great act to see live.
If it helps, when they play it live now, he changes the lyric to "she's only 35..." or something like that.
Because that is the youngest age of the women in the crowd now. LOL
If she was 17 in 1988 when this came out, she’d be 51 today… damn
This was back when everyone understood the difference between high school jailbait and a little child. 😆 I guess that made us weird?
Early rock n' roll of the 50s and 60s catered to the young generation. I was told you could be a kid back then and still have options for innocent fun and the songs were marketing to teens. This song revealed that that idea had outgrown itself.
The Drummer Rod Mogenstein and guitar player Reb Beach are killer players. Lots of songs about underaged encounters back in the 70s and 80s. They say she's only 35 now in reference to how old the band is.
“We listened to it, it won the poll….we’re moving on”
The polished Bubblegum hair metal bands of this era were writing their songs to be played live for their fans who were mostly teenagers. The commercial success of this formula was massive. So much so that it led at a backlash when the 80s came to a close. That backlash brought us the grunge era.
Not a big fan of Winger but holy smokes Reb Beach is an incredible guitarist, that main riff is trickier than it sounds, and the solo is fire!
He was good in Dokken. Don actually let him write & collaborate as he works with his band mates. Off record, many spoke against Kip-
@braxus6416 whi spoke against kip his band mates in winger? The guys who are to this day still in the band to write, record and go on tour with him? All the same guys.
ah yes, a time when our world wasn't so damn politically correct. i miss it.
Good times, good times
yeah, it seems like having a girl's age mention in a song lyric or song title is becoming a taboo nowadays. to me, slot of the songs that mention girl's age are either from a perspective from a younger male who is in love or have crush on an older female or the other way around but with someone not too old like collage age. 16, 17, and 18 are a bit of threshold to adulthood and that can raise a lot of heated debate over age of the subject the songwriter is writing about.
there are songs that bring age different but no mention of age but bring up the subject of he's young, she's old or vice versa. want a good example? go check out the song Dianna by Paul Anka.
@@chrisstory563 yeah....wait til they hear joe walsh I LBT'S.
@@chrisstory563 Okay 18, 17, or 16 may be when you become an adult officially but you’re still like… young. You’d still be in high school or just getting out of it. Why would we allow grown men and women to make flirtatious moves on someone so young? Wouldn’t parents be outraged? Shouldn’t they be?

Did he? I think for Winger he just moves around with it and spins it over his shoulder. Lmao
No, he played bass for Alice before that tour. I'm thinking it's when Kane Robert's was his guitarist. But pretty sure it was before the Trash tour.
Kip Winger played bass on Alice Cooper's albums Constrictor and Raise Your Fist And Yell, not Trash. Kip and Alice Cooper keyboardist Paul Taylor worked on songs during that tour and formed Winger. 1st Winger album was 1988 & Trash was 1989.

Their singer also tried to blame Beavis and Butthead for his bands downfall instead of their terrible song writing.
I was 16 when this came out and I used to laugh when I sang the line ' daddy says she's too young but she's old enough for me'. 🤣 I thought the whole tape was pretty good. We used to listen to it in the mornings before school when we were weight training for football.

Amazing how things change. Chantilly Lace is a R&R Classic. But the lyrics are basically about chasing young girls. You guys did My Sharona and Cherry Pie, both about young girls. Bad Company's cover of Young Blood is the same, but it's a banger.
Funny reaction. A collision of decades. Back in the 80's this didn't seem like such a big deal. But i can understand your discomfort with this today. Don't forget the famous Beatles song from the '60's - I Saw Her Standing There - where Paul McCartney famously sang: "Well she was just seventeen, you know what i mean.." Times change and morality changes with it. As a side note - I knew my great-grandmother -- she didn't die until i was 19 - and she was married when she was 12 and had her first child at 13. Her husband was 2 years older than her. This wasn't unusual in the early 1900's. Obviously, life expectancy was much lower - so people matured faster. I laugh when i hear parents today say that kids grow up so much faster today. Are you kidding me? Many kids today go to school until they're almost 30 - then get their first job - then get married in their 40's - then hurry and have a child because they realize that human biology didn't keep up with our prolonged life expectancies. Anyway - my 2 cents - and thanks for this reaction. Very amusing.
Delayed maturity is by design. I don't think there are many, if any, true adult humans alive anymore. Our whole society is designed to keep us all nearly infantile. The legal ages of adulthood have some basis in biology, but at this point, we are so mentally and behaviorally handicapped in our development that no one reaches full maturity, even in their 80s!
17 is legal in TEXAS … just saying.
Chuck Berry's "Little Queenie" from 1959 has a line that says "She's too cute to be a minute over seventeen". That song has been covered so many times by artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom Jones, The Beatles, and my favorite is by REO Speedwagon.
jerry lee doing the song is a little too real. i believe his wife was around 13 or 14
This was a different time .. it was not released in 2022 . Not as creepy as many other songs out there
im betting these guys never checked IDs backstage either

Robbing the cradle is what it used to be called. Kind of like Brad and Lex here.
The rock stars in the 70's, 80's, and 90's knew who was purchasing their music. Teenagers want to hear songs about themselves.
I kinda lived this song in reverse. When I was 18 I "dated" a 34 year old woman for a little while. I think she was genuinely shocked when I had the balls to hit on her. I was even more shocked when it actually worked. I have some great memories of getting wasted with my pals then having them drop me off at her house and going through her bedroom window(because she was asleep). She never got frustrated with me(I was young and very stupid), or denied me. It was all good times. She was absolutely smoking too. Of course every guy in town was trying to hit on her after they found out she getting with some 18 year old kid. She wasn't embarrassed by it at all. Cool lady.
Do you know the Rod Stewart song "Maggie May"? He wrote it about a similar experience he had.
Ick Factor: HIGH There's a reason Winger didn't last longer than it took for the MTV Video to fade from people's memories.
This is what we call bubblegum music
You guys are the best!!! I envy you getting to hear all these tunes for the first time!!!! Lex is a true metal head at heart 🤘🏻❤️
Someone saw them in concert a few years ago, and when they played this song, the singer jokingly changed the lyrics to "She's only 45," which she probably would be today.

Of course we think they're creepy if we are older but they are geared toward the audience which is primarily teenagers and it doesn't sound creepy to them. Songs like, Sweet Little Sixteen, teen Angel and even, I Love Rock and Roll, are about young women or young men in the latter case. The fact that older men are the ones writing them however.........
Winger is the most underrated band of all time . What a lot of people don't know is that Kip Winger , Reb Beach & the drummer all played for Alice Cooper & Alice Cooper doesn't let just anyone play with him . You have to be musically inclined to play with Cooper . This was just a fun goofy song they put together back in the day .
This is hilarious! I remember, we just graduated high school (when this came out we were 13-14). So we teased my friend because he was dating a girl who was 17. We'd literally sing the chorus to him. He was pissed, but that's what friends are for.

Looking at the thumbnail/title I was totally hoping you'd finally listened to the Violent Femmes. Need to check out "Add it Up"!
I was never a Winger fan but the words do mess with my mind now that I'm an old man.
Reb Beach is a BEAST on guitar!!!
I don't mind Winger. Rock on Brad & Lex
So damn funny, the older I get the creepier it becomes. I was a teenager at the time but holy shit what was Kip Winger thinking?
This song is, was and always will be 🔥🔥🔥🤘😎 I was 17 when this came out.. man I miss the 80’s!!!🤘🔥😎🥰
2:04 Damn Lex almost spit out my drink. you are super funny
Great song if your 18-20. After 21 it gets creepier an creepier every year.
Back in the 80s, most of the time no one cared a bit about the lyrics. It was all about the metal, hair or not.
This and the Stray Cats' "Sexy and Seventeen" could never be made today
A lot of songs back in the 70s and 80s certainly raise eyebrows today with perceived references to teen love/lust or however you want to look at it. Stevie Nicks Edge of Seventeen, Billy idol Cradle of Love, Damn Yankees Coming of Age and a whole lot of other songs of similar content that were huge hits and played on MTV frequently. Difference is not many at the time got all in a tizzy or offended and wanted everything banned, we just jammed along with the music and that was that..wasnt taken so seriously.
There's nothing wrong with Edge of Seventeen. Jane Petty told Stevie that she met Tom at the age of seventeen. Her accent made it sound like edge of seventeen. They were both in high school, BTW,so, it wasn't pervy.
Stevie liked the sound of 'edge of seventeen",so,she used it in the song.
“Where’s Chris Hansen?!”
Has to be the best reaction ever! I was a teenager when this song was popular and even back then I knew that was wrong. 16 was the age of consent where I grew up and that is so wrong! I have 3 daughters…. And a few guns! No 20 something better ever think about coming around for my 17 year old!
You guys are awesome!
Finally a semi sane person in this comment section
Pedophilia is a crime, people! They're the type of people who get killed in prisons because even hardened criminals are disturbed by them
This song creeps me out, too. You're not alone!
Miles Away, Headed for a Heartbreak, Hungry, Madalaine
Whatever you think of the topic--objectively, one of the best straight up hard rock songs ever composed and produced and performed. Tops.
Changes the lyrics a little bit to add nostalgia for his audience when performing in one of those red Southern states, "♬ she's only seventeen, she's also mmmmyyyy sister♬ ".
(♬ SISTER ♬)😭😭
Ringo Starr was 33 when he recorded "You're Sixteen".
