I've done alternators on a 94 Dakota, 98 Civic, 01 Acura TL, 05 Tahoe. This has definitely been the hardest I have done!

First video I watched and I don’t need to watch any videos after!
Thanks for sharing and showing the extra stuff.
I just replaced coolant filker neck and belt 4 months ago.
So, working on the car is fresh in mind and skills

Thanks for this video it saved me a lot of time and money!
Tip to get the 12mm bolt behind the alternator: remove the heat shield on the manifold (next to the dipstick), you do not need to disconnect the o2 sensor. This will make the bolt to the gold bracket visible and much more accessible (12mm long socket). This would have saved me a lot of time. Good luck!

That tip with marking the gold bracket was perfect! 👍

Hey man. Thanks. This help out so much. And I wanted to let you know that I even snapped the coolant filler neck just like you did.
And for anyone else, getting to that last nut in the back of the alternator bracket, removing the exhaust heat shield made a world of difference

Cheers for the tip legend 🍻 For what it's worth I snapped mine too. I went in confidently thinking it can't possibly be THAT brittle. How wrong I was

Thanks for the vid! And purely a compliment that I have faith of doing this myself when I saw that you didn't realize that you could take out the engine decor plastic piece. 🙂That means you had faith in doing this crazy job!

Thanks for doing this video dude. I have a 2009 rx350, and keep trying to do repairs on it myself. You mentioning the 10 and 12mm bolts helped out too. Big thanks to you, I should have the ol lady up n running by the end of the wekend!

Great video! very Helpful. Just did mine today but I didn’t need to take the top radiator nozzle off. I just took took the 2 small hoses off and all fan bolts out and wiggled it free while pushing the fans to the passenger side. Appreciate ya brother

Thanks for the video! You can definitely tell this isn't in the rust belt. The 2 lower screws for the fan shroud are goners on mine. Not sure how I'm going to get it out now.

Note that not all alternators in the RX from these years have that gold bracket. My 2008 does not. Even without it the job can be ridiculous, as the alternator can be very tight.

I would replace the entire radiator. All of that plastic under the hood is going to be brittle and you'll be driving in traffic one day with the air conditioning on and the tank will split. Save yourself a lot of time and headache in the future and cough up $150 and buy a new radiator

Good question. I changed positions where William and I worked together in conjunction with getting sick for a long period of time. William had a lot on his plate with the new position and ended up selling the new rig. Sad, but true 😢

If you don't mind me asking - how much did you pay for your 2007 Lexus RX350, and how many miles did you purchase it at? I'm considering buying the exact same year RX350, and one possibility is with 160,000 miles for $7,000. Another only has 70,000 miles for $13,000. I know the latter would be a safer bet, but that would be stretching my budget, but I have no idea if the other would end up costing me a ton in repairs. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have. Thanks!

If you go to my UA-cam channel “Modern Greaser” I have multiple videos on the Lexus. Explaining what I paid the pros and cons etc. But the video is from prior to 2020, so prices have changed.

    • @ModernGreaser
      @ModernGreaser  2 роки тому

I'd say give yourself a good 3-4 hours if you're somewhat mechanically inclined just to get the car in the air, remove the belt, and squeeze the alternator out of the compartment. It's a bit annoying.

@@ModernGreaser mannnn, took me 4 n a half hours, in the video u had more of the plastic covers off already. Also getting the bolts back in the top and bottom of the alt. Is a bitch to line up. I had to get top bolt jusssssst started and get bottom bolt in the right spot, tighten it alllll the way then finish top bolt. And taking heat pan off by alt def let’s u get to bracket easier.
My car was stuck at work so I also had to do it in the parking lot there…. Almost lost my arm, my jack slipped, luckily I had my tire under frame … I either wlda been pinned or cut my arm off, I was push the bottom bolt broke lose and I saw my car shifting towards me …. Freaked me tf ouuuuuuttttt…. Then 4 hrs later bam runnin!!! And saved money!
Also working w work tools…. If I was in a btr place or my own home def wlda saved time.
Gettin it out was hard but not as hard as gettin the new one in and lined back up right…. Holy shit… I almost gave up till tom… started at 5 right after work , had to go get alt n sep. belt tool . Got done around 945 … killed….
Wish my mechanic wlda picked up, my 2-300 save his loss.

Very helpful even better than the manual version. But the only thing missing was how to remove the 3rd lug nut. It’s not between the smallest space it’s about an inch lower and if you have a flashlight 🔦 you can actually see it. I took a picture but can’t show it in the comments unfortunately.

  • @drifter233

So the whole reason I'm here is because I want to confirm how shitty it is to remove, and what I remembered is correct. It kinda sucks to take out.
And they're paying me 0.8 hours to do it...
