For those of you that have asked how they can tip me. You can now click the “super thanks” button and add a tip. Grateful for all my viewers and subscribers! This channel would be nothing without you!
Straight to the point, no funny music or long monolog. Best video in this subject.
I don’t spend time commenting on videos, but this was one of, if not the best, DIY videos for a repair job. FANTASTIC!!
I have a 2015 ES350, which is a little different, but not much. Without this video I would have never got it done. A big job for me (took most of the day), but I was able to get it done. Thanks so much for the good instructions!!
I've done a lot of car repairs and watched a lot of videos to get things done. This is a great video. It's done to let you see and understand better than most all of the other ones that I've seen. It's not just about him finishing.
Glad you like the video. Thank you for watching!
I just wanted to say THANK YOU. That instructional video was spot on, I got several quotes from a few local auto repair shops. The cost was anywhere from $1500 all the way to $2700 from our local Lexus dealer. By watching your video a supposed 8hr job quotes from the shops was really only 3.5. I will definitely share this video with others.
Glad the video was helpful. Thank you for watching!
The 10mm trick worked great, Very detailed video and the piece of cardboard saved my radiator. Yes leave the radiator loose before installing the cooling fan’s,thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
Glad you like the video. Thank you for watching!
That 10mm wrench trick is awesome!! For years I’ve been struggling removing these. Thanks for that great tip, and an awesome how to video!!
Used your video as a guide and it was perfect! Got the job done easier than the Lexus repair manual said. You rock!
Thanks for the video. Super through. I broke down after a charging light, didn’t make it home. Was thinking about fixing it in the side of the road but after watching the video and the number of pieces that need to come off I’m gonna have it towed home and fix it there.
Now I know why this is a $650 job quoted by my mechanic, well worth it to me, big ass job!!!!
Your video was very helpful, I was working on my 2012 RX350 and other than that bottom bolt taking me a day to figure out, I was able to complete the job. Thnk you for sharing.
Glad the video was helpful. Thank you for watching!
Superb video friend it so easy to understand and to follow your steps and methods just finished my 2011 Lexus rx I couldn’t have done it without you thank you
@@evermoran7163 glad the video was helpful. Thank you for watching!
Great video, I am a tire guy at a tire shop and one of the mechanics was replacing a alternator on the same exact vehicle in this video and ended up ruining the radiator when pulling the alternator out. All in all he was having a rough day and a half lol. Now I understand why he was having a hard time. Thanks again!
Well done. Looks easy to do with basic tools, even though there are many steps to complete this job. Thanks for posting.
ICU2 yes as far as tools go not that much needed.
No way I could have even attempted this without this video. Thanks!!
Thank you for watching!
Awesome video. My friend ask me to replace his Lexus Rx350 because I have done some cars. After watching this video I understand why the shops charge almost $1000 for labor because there are so many parts are needed to remove and have extensive labor time. You are master mechanic.
Thanks for a great and very detailed video. Lexus wanted over $1,100 for this repair (including their $500 alternator). Bought a new alternator for a lot less and did the job myself. Saved over $800.
Jason That’s awesome! Glad I was able to help you save some money. Thank you for watching!
Great tutorial ! thanks for being very detailed during the process
Thanks for the great video. im gonna pass on doing it myself, but your video was instrumental in making the right decision.
Thank you for this video, very detailed better than the repair manual. I was able to replace the altenator very easily and the 10mm wrench trick worked, especilly in those areas of knockle breaker.
Thanks for this video! Had to do this repair while traveling and staying with family, would have taken much longer and been even more frustrating. 10mm wrench tip for those plastic connectors FTW!!!
Glad I was able to help you on your trip. Thank you for watching!
Today was the second time I installed one of these and thanks to this video is was relatively easy. Very well done and superb editing. Both times it was next to impossible to get that clip off the l bracket. It has to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen the Toyota do. Anyways thanks for your help!
THANK YOU soooo much for this video. One tip, put the fans back in before the bracket, makes it so much easier to get it in.
Thank you for the tip and for watching!
Awesome. Straight to the point. Great video.
For the bottom bolt, I found it easier to attach the socket from the underside and use a breaker bar from the topside to break that bolt loose. Wasnt enough room to get leverage from underneath. Great video
That's high level wrenching. Thank you sir!
Sakeenah Auto Solutions thank you!
God damn !!! Thanks man , I was going to buy this car lol but I changed my mind 😃
Well I’m glad it helped you make the right decision. Thank you for watching!
Ditto that this is a well done instructional and time saver ... A suggestion on removal of the first bolt (under the tension pulley) ... Wait until the radiator is loose, and approach it from above ... I could not get leverage to loosen from below (2011 / 155K) and after an hour of effort (and before rounding off the head) , moved on ... From above, and approaching front-to-back, could keep the bar perpendicular to the bolt and get some ass behind it ... Heading back out to finish the job ...
Flawless victory for me! Thank you for the video!
That's alot of work , I see why regular mechanics don't wanna mess with these cars, I would never try
Great Job! Same procedure as Lexus workshop.
Thank you, excellent video
Great video! I think my alternator is dying so I wanted to do some initial prep. Big job, lot's to remove but it seems like it is doable, even for a novice like myself. Good tips with the 10mm wrench and cardboard also.
Update. This job kicked my ass on day 1. Almost every part of it is a fight, especially being from the rust belt. I did get a late start though. Everything is disassembled and I just need to remove the alt tomorrow and install new one. Used your video as a guide throughout.
Thank you so much for this video! God bless you. The tips and tricks worked perfectly thank you so much once again !
Master of your craft. Thanks
This was an excellent tutorial. Thanks. FYI it is virtually the same on a 2009 RX 350. The only difference is the grill on the 09 is part of the hood, so a bit less to remove.
Excellent video!! It helped me tremendously!!
Thank you much, your video made this super easy.
Great video, made the job much easy. Thanks
Steve Rodgers glad the video was helpful. Thank you for watching!
Oh my this is hell of a job i ve never seen anything as hard as this as a self rookie mechenic.
Definitely not a fun job to do.
Thank you! Saved me $600!
Nice Love hearing that. Thank you for watching!
Great job and thanks for that nifty trick also!
Darwin W thank you for watching!
Great explanation however there must be a short cut here. I may have a similar job i believe. I will know for sure soon could be a pulley locking up however I’m thinking I may be able to do thai a easier way, ughh. Sure hope so. Why could you not pull from bottom? Hmm. Great video on point. You nailed this!! You a teacher for a lining 👏🏼 😆 👏🏼 💯
It make this look super easy
Great video, very helpful. On the last step of removing the alternator, regarding the wires clipped into the L bracket, where do those wires go? I got a little carried away and ripped them out accidentally, so I'm trying to figure out what they go to.
Ever find out where the wires went?
@@JKGoose Yeah, they wound up being crankshaft sensor leads. Car got put back together and is running great today, thanks in no small part to this video
@@denverluckadoo4735 Awesome, thank you for replying! So crazy that you can't really find the answer on any forums but I had a feeling that's what is was. Much appreciated!
Great video thank you!!
Thank you for detailed information
Very good descriptive step by step video! Thank you! How many actual and billable hours is this job?
If I remember right it was for 4 1/2 hours of labor time. Thank you for watching!
Loved the video, couldve used a better warning on the wires stuck to the l bracket being hooked to a crank sensor. Wires came out of the sensor and now car wont start.
It is important to disconnect the battery to prevent a short.
What a very great video thank you I save a lot of money
Awesome always glad to hear it when someone saves money! Thank you for watching!
Nice with the details of the information !
Thank you!
@@HowtoAutomotive - Just wondering have you posted anything relate about replace lower ball joint of 2013 Lexus RX350 in the past? Thank you so much !
Man, nice insurance with the cardboard over the radiator. I'm using that idea. Thanks.
Great video
10mm wrench tip for popping the wire harness clips is great ... Sometimes a little circular motion was needed ... Couldn't get the wrench in for the L-Bracket clip, 10mm socket on a 3" extension, like butter ... Thanks
Any torque values?
Awesome video! I'm watching this to get to the crankshaft position sensor (P0335 code). Did you happen to show that sensor anywhere in this video? I may just have to watch it a couple or 10 more times! 😃
great video!
Thank you so very good
Thanks!
man!!!! thats a five hundred dollars job thanks a lot for this video
Holy shit you had to take the whole front end apart just to change an alternator LOL
Crazy but yes
This is very poor Toyota engineering they only had to give a some inches or mm's of spacing to remove alternator and disconnecting water pump amd radiator support is ridiculous.
fcs3ren Yeah a little more thought could’ve gone into this one. Thank you for watching!
You can remove the alternator without removing grill, radiator support, and if your patient and easy going you can do it without damaging the radiator
Do you think it’s possible to change the alternator pulley without removing the alternator?
This is why you don’t buy transverse V6s. Luckily these are now 4 cylinder turbos. They are a lot less maintenance and will last longer.
How many hours did you spend on this?
Saved me $650
Can be removed without removing grill and loosening radiator
awesome
I notice at the eat your red test lead was larger than most test leads. What's kind of test lead is that?
I got it all done but can’t get the alternator out of that opening…. Wires are getting in the way.
My 2010 lexus rx350 have reach 200,000 miles I haven’t change my alternator yet how long did your alternator last mileage repair on this car you work on ?
It’s hard to say how long the last. I’ve seen some of them last 300,000 and some go out of 20.
My alternator on the the 2010 rx350 went out at 124,000 miles last week.
Mine:112,300 - 2013. Hasn't crashed, yet. Got pre-warning tho (push button start not work'n -new fob batt didn't fix.) O'Riley tested battery:👍 Alternator:👎😒
mine 2015 only reach 105k and alternator just down today, the shop cost $1200
boy that bottom alternator bolt is the goddam devil....only had 1 tool that was small enough and long enough to get enough leverage on it to break it
Question: At 12:31 in the video, where you remove the wire loom from the L Bracket of the alternator, what does that wire conduit go to? My wire was cut and I cannot figure out what it is for. Does anyone know? Thank you!
Did you ever get an answer to this? Same thing happened to me
that's a lot of work, i ll pass to a mechanic.. thank you .
How many miles on the Lexus
If i am in charge of Toyota this would be enough reason for me to stop RX 350 production
No, you wouldn't stop production. It is one of the best selling and most profitable models.
Yes this is poor engineering this is is ridiculous my moms alternator just went out it only has 130k miles my infinity g35 coupe has 163k all original
Good video what is the cost for labor lots of work.
dany ordonez looks about 2+1/2 hours
dany ordonez the book call for 3 1/2 hours. So at a shop just over 500 parts and labor
I Assume To Chge.the ES 330 is About the Same,Already Found A Remfgr.Denso Unit ,W/ Lifetime Gtd.@ Advance Auto ,If U Order it OnLine & Pick It Up Later,Considerable Disc.@$194.00 for Part @ Advance .
I was quoted 900
You bad ass …can u just come change mine lol
How many miles on it?
john1240able 94k
Mine is still fine at 117,000 miles.
What does the dealer $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for this job?
I call bullshit on the 10mm wrench trick. And the “just remove the connectors” from the fan is also bs.
i just dropped off my 2015 to replace the alternator, it cost $1200
Are they doing more work with the alternator? $1200 sounds high.
@@HowtoAutomotive First, they charge $130 for diagnostic, then they said bas Alternator, part, labor, tax, $1200
i'll bet all that PLASTIC at the TOP of the engine fails most frequently ...
since it's the EASIEST to access ...
Que porquería de carro ,hay que desarmar todo para cambiar el alternador ,solo nuevo ,ya con varios años ,esa cochinada de carro ni regalado
God Damn...that's a lot of work. Would've been easier to drop the enging.
Great video !
Thanks !
