Dion is 85 & still singing. His latest album he recorded "There Was A Time" with Peter Frampton. ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons (“My Stomping Ground”), Bruce Springsteen & Patti Scialfa, Boz Scaggs, Eric Clapton (“If You Wanna Rock 'n Roll”) His latest album Girl Friend is filled with a number of female artists.
Dion is 83 yrs old. Still making new music. Might still preform live a few times a year. In his youth he went thru addiction, cleaned up in his late 20s. Married “SUE”, they are still married,in 2025.
Dion was one of four headliners on tour the night Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper died in a plane crash. Dion was supposed to be on the plane but when he learned that it would cost him $36 he gave his seat to Valens who was sick at the time. Dion sighted as the main reason he changed his mind was his father was paying $36/month rent for their Bronx apartment.
Dion started out with the Belmonts in the late 50's-60's. They had some hits including "I Wonder Why", "No One Knows", "A Teenager In Love" & "Where Or When". Dion went solo & had some big hits such as "Runaround Sue", "The Wanderer", "Ruby Baby", "Lonely Teenager", "Donna The Prima Donna" ,"Drip Drop", "Lovers Who Wander", "Little Diane" & "Abraham, Martin & John".
Dion's song I Wonder Why is featured in the movie Peggy Sue Got Married. It is also performed in the movie by Nicolas Cage who plays a teen singer who loves Dion's music. Nick also plays his character as matured adult.
Everyone thinks there was Elvis and then the Beatles there are so many others, Dion, Bobby Vee, the Shirelles. Etc. my sisters are over a decade older than me so they were teens when I was little.
Thank you Saeed , For playing my Request, I knew you would love this song , Dion Is still singing, he’s 85 years old . You are awesome Saeed.👍❤️ Sincerely, Robert
Thank you Char ,👍❤️ Yes great memories, there is also the Video of Dion singing 🎵 this song from the movie , twist around the clock. I sent that to Saeed.
This is more indicative of Dion's music and style. I might classify him as part of the "Do Wop" branch of early Rock & Roll. The British had a pop-culture "dispute" during the 1960s when the "kids" listening to the popular music classified themselves as "Rockers" or "Mods" (those who appreciated the 1950s and the "original" R&R verses the changes that took place with the many forms that Rock took in the 60s). I classify this as a "Rocker" tune.
These guys learned to play in the clubs...LIVE....no sound man mixing sound......they had to listen to each other and play in their pocket and come in out and mix it on the bandstand. In the studio it was live takes, one or two and done. Super talents that hardly exist anymore everyone relies on technology.
Hey Saeed, This was my older sister's music but I loved it too! He gets paid back for his Wandering by "Runaround Sue" Ha!Ha!Ha! He's very dynamic when you see him perform these songs live! I absolutely loved your reaction to this one! Most people back then could really sing, so live performances are usually really good! I personally prefer them when I can find them!
This was one of his hits that didn't have The Belmonts backing him up. Luckily for Dion, he was able to get a fabulous group of singers called The Dell Satins to back him up by promising to help promote their group in the future. They are backing him on Runaround Sue as well.
I love how you can feel his strut in the rhythm. You really would be blown away by 'Jumpin Jive' Cab Callaway and the Nicholas brothers. From 1942? The longest black and white version. The shadows add so much.
Another great reaction, Saeed. Yep, this was an awesome hit for him. I was like 9 or 10 years old and just starting to listen to music. What a toe-tapper. 😁
With the Belmonts Dion had a slew of hits-I Wonder Why, A Teenager In Love-he also went solo and had hits with Runaround Sue. Ernie Maresca who wrote the Wanderer-also had a big hit called Shout Shout Knock Yourself Out.
🎷🎷🎷 ..... it seems like lately you are reaching into my songbook Saeed. I have a file for Rock music , another for Country Music , & then another for oldies. This Dion song is one that I play often , sometimes just to practice piano and vocals. Thanks for this one 🎄💚🎄
Fantastic music for the time, as well as the lyrics and voice. The funny thing is one of his other songs 'Run Around Sue' is about the exact opposite, it's also another fantastic song. Great video and review, thank you 🤩.
Wow, what a shock to see you react to this! This was the first record I bought, when I was in the 2nd grade, with my allowance money. I was lucky to be gifted by my much older cousin, his 45 record collection before I even started school so I'd been listening to records and the radio for many years before I bought this. But this was my very first purchase. And I wore it out. Such a great great song!
So, now you'll want to check his song called Run Around Sue, to hear about the female version of the fellow he is in this song. Which one is better? I don't know, flip a coin...
Great song about a lout who uses women then drops them. His other two hit songs, "Run Around Sue" and "Donna the Prima Donna" turn the tables with the girl running around and dropping men.
A point of observation: it's ok to be a wanderer guy, but not a runaround Sue? Hmmm. 1950/60's double standard. You bet! It's still a cool song, for educational purposes, of course. Ricky Nelson sang Travelin' Man, a cousin of The Wanderer, (I like Rick's voice better).
This 60's rock was in my home all the time. I had four older sisters!!

Thank you for the information.
I forgot about this. Fate.

What a great voice! I recorded a few more reactions today for tomorrow and the day after. Had a lot of fun with these. Thanks for watching
Run Around Sue I'd another great one.
The Bronx sound. Dion is often seen there on Arthur Avenue. He's still married to his HS sweetheart, Suzanne.
Dion's song I Wonder Why is featured in the movie Peggy Sue Got Married. It is also performed in the movie by Nicolas Cage who plays a teen singer who loves Dion's music. Nick also plays his character as matured adult.
Start with Dion and The Belmonts for sure ! Iconic doo wop
Everyone thinks there was Elvis and then the Beatles there are so many others, Dion, Bobby Vee, the Shirelles. Etc. my sisters are over a decade older than me so they were teens when I was little.

Early rock and roll was made for dancing!

Young man that was real rock ‘n’ roll that’s why Dion DiMucci is in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame!!!😝😝😝👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
That was a saxophone, very popular instrument in the 50's and early 60's Rock & Roll music.
And long before that. It is considered the most vocally expressive instrument.
I always loved Dion's vocal style. Ruby Baby would have to be my fave
GREAT song choice. I really liked it. Thank you for the smile on my face. ❤❤

Love Dion!
I ❤ this Classic dion song. It reminds of that movie the wanderers (1979) 😊😊😊👍👍👍
His much later hit "King of the New York Streets" is amazing.
With the Belmonts Dion had a slew of hits-I Wonder Why, A Teenager In Love-he also went solo and had hits with Runaround Sue. Ernie Maresca who wrote the Wanderer-also had a big hit called Shout Shout Knock Yourself Out.
Thank you, Saeed, and hope your had a nice weekend!❤
I had a great weekend, hope yours was great too! Take care!
REAL MUSICIANS, REAL SINGERS, TRUE TALENT!!!😎
Great oldie childhood time one C❤
Reaching WAY WAY back, great Tune
Dion had a great combo of resonant voice with that irresistable grrrowl. Easy on the eyes too. Try "Runaroung Sue"
He is still around and singing.
That is amazing! Have a few more reactions recorded that will be coming soon
You should check out Runaround Sue (in case you haven't already done it)
Early rock and roll, Philadelphia area style.

You need to be VERY VERY careful if you accept a lunch invitation from Dion... ua-cam.com/video/1GwRKsOnk84/v-deo.html
